> It's ok to just be ok ## Why - Charming pixel art & very nice water - Which is used to creatively signpost some secrets - The core combat/traversal mechanic is a cool idea ## Why Not - The core combat/traversal mechanic is more or less the only cool idea - And it has a few drawbacks holding it back from carrying the game - Didn't unlock a single achievement despite meeting the requirements... ## Impressions Sealed Bite is a short but solid platformer held back from being special by slight annoyances with its primary mechanic. Shortly after starting your journey a werewolf bites you, somehow imbuing you with the ability to hurl yourself through the air at enemies as both a method of attack and traversal. This is a pretty cool idea and it's what sets the game apart from many other competent entries to the genre, along with nice pixel art and water the dev is clearly (justifiably!) proud of given how common it is. While I'd definitely call this a good game and probably worth your time, there are a few minor issues with its main mechanic which'll likely lead to plenty of frustration during your playthrough: - Dashing through an enemy gives no/few iframes - There's no 'cooldown' after being hit - And taking damage knocks you back The last two combine to mean that if you find yourself in the air during a boss fight with no dash charge, you're likely about to die while being forcibly juggled by a hail of projectiles. Since you're briefly locked out of acting during the knockback, it's also very easy for taking a single hit to lead into multiple, suddenly depleting your carefully preserved health. The lack of iframes on your dash is particularly annoying on a specific boss who shoots projectiles out in random directions around them; dashing through is the only way to deal damage but also leaves you vulnerable to a projectile spawning inside your body on the other side. Eventually I figured out to time the dashes for when they weren't firing, and that's probably even the intended way to handle it, but a little more forgiveness at the end of dash probably wouldn't hurt either. Another minor boss-related annoyance is the final boss being basically harmless but having two insta-kill lava pits in his arena. I prefer to fight the boss rather than the environment, so IMO it might've been better to make his attacks actually do damage and just remove the lava pits. Overall I had a good time with Sealed Bite despite a few minor-ish grievances, most of the time the combined combat/traversal feels really good and there are plenty of secrets to find. Worth a try if you're looking for a cheap, couple hour game to kill some time.
I've never seen a metroidvania with roguelike elements before. Until you get your first ability (dash attack), the game feels... not great... However, the pace picks up as you acquire new abilities. It feels like the developers were inspired by Ori, Celeste, and Dead Cells, but that's just my guess. The spike mechanic is flawed; once caught in this trap, the player cannot escape and takes damage until they die. It would be better to respawn the player nearby after contact with the spikes. There are a few bugs at the start... I hope they will be fixed soon.
A very fun platformer. The pacing is great, as the normal enemies don't pose any real danger, but the bosses are somewhat challenging. I also needed a few attempts to complete the escape sequences. One highlight for me is definitely the graphics. Very nice animations, backgrounds, and reflections. The themes and biomes look great! The Metroidvania elements are limited, but well placed. Backtracking is avoided, so you can see the end in about two hours. I'm still missing some memories, so I'll give it a second try soon. All in all highly recommended!
I liked this one quite a bit. I think its not worth 10 dollars for this long of a game but it is fun. I finished the game in an hour and 20 minutes. It has a super cozy feel to it. Biomes were nice and movement was crisp. Secrets were clever and passive upgrades felt super meaningful. I thought the chase sequences were excellent but the bosses felt lacking. The first boss was by far the hardest boss in the game and the last boss was a disappointment. My other complaint is that bosses shoot at you and I had some issues where my character would target a projectile for the bash instead of the boss.
لعبة جيدة ، تخلصها تقريبا في 3 ساعات الى 4 للأسف ما تدعم اللغة العربية
I wish Steam had some kind of middle-ground option when it comes to reviews like this. For the price of 9,75€, I honestly don’t think the game quite justifies it. It’s marketed as a Metroidvania, but it feels too linear and also too short at around 2–3 hours to really feel like one. I never got that sense of exploration, nor that feeling of being lost and not knowing what to do. That said, it’s not without its strengths. The graphics are genuinely gorgeous, with a really appealing art style, and the gameplay itself is fun and responsive while it lasts. It just feels like it ends before it has the chance to fully open up or evolve into something more memorable. Overall, I’m giving it a thumbs up, but with some hesitation. I’d recommend picking it up on sale rather than at full price.
Fun little game on the shorter side of things. Finished the game with my in game time at 1h 5m and I enjoyed most of it. The traveling from room to room was fun and the platforming was fair and enjoyable. The game is linear. You won't be backtracking or going off the main trail to go explore a series of rooms, but at most will go into a single room off to the side before returning to the main path. This is most likely due to the shorter run time of the game but I didn't mind it as I was playing. There aren't that many power ups and the ones you do get, you can expect the traditional metroidvania power ups you're used to. The main form of attacking in this game is to dash into enemies/projectiles. To dash, you consume a power meter for each dash you do. Once empty, you can no longer dash but the meter does recharge as you play. This can be upgraded by collecting potions to unlock memories, in which you can augment the amount of recharge time, power meter amount, This is fine when traversing rooms. You're never in a position where you're overwhelmed with enemies to dash into. However, this is not the case with bosses. The bosses in this game are a complete 180 from the rest of the game. With the exception of the last boss (who was a complete pushover), the bosses you fight are damage sponges and often time flood the screen with projectiles. Something I didn't mention when talking about the dash earlier, was this game has almost no invincibility frames. This is true after you dash into other projectiles too. So due to the amount that the bosses can shoot out you often find yourself dashing into some of them, only to get hit by one after the dash. Then because there are very little iframes, you get hit again while falling to the ground. Bosses do not have contact damage so there is no threat to running into them, other than the barrage of projectiles they send out. Overall, I had a fun time with the game. The general gameplay is fun and the different areas you go to have different platforming challenges so you're not doing the same thing the whole game. I do think the boss fights don't belong in this game. They serve no real purpose other than to act as a set piece during and after the fight. Save points are plentiful and getting back to any room you died on shouldn't take you too long.
