Sea of Solitude

An incredibly pretty game with INCREDIBLY terrible writing. The theme of the game along with its visuals and art direction had so much potential to be a great personal story about overcoming depression and self reflection, but the writing is so unbearably atrocious that I paused the game multiple times just to put my head in my hands. The script turn the "tell don't show" approach up to 1000, having the protag comment on every small interaction she has with the world robbing the player of any agency or interpretation. This wouldn't be a dealbreaker if the dialogue itself wasn't so damn "basic". Every word spoken is either flavor text or "I’m so sorry…how could I not see this…..you were in pain…..I promise I’ll never abandon you again……you mean so much to me….." OH MY GOD I GET IT!!! I don't need every single emotion the characters are feeling explained to me, I don't need every action the protag takes repeated back at me, and I really don't need the entire backstory of every single tragic event to be sanded down to such a black and white point of view that it makes half of the characters seem cartoonishly evil. For a game handling an incredibly adult topic, it tries it's hardest to treat the player like a child that hasn't developed the concept of empathy yet. The extra salt in this decaying wound is that another studio rewrote the entire game and published it as a switch exclusive, a fact I only learned 2.1 hour into playing the game. A story driven, narrative game completely undermined by bad voice acting and subpar writing

Game has some pretty good concept art, but not a whole lot more. It tries to tackle a difficult subject and falls on it's face with bad writing and mediocre voice acting. The gameplay itself is boring at the best of times. As a final insult, the game requires you to install EA launcher that always runs in the background even when the game is off and also has denuvo.

The game, i found somewhat fun, although 100% not worth the 20 dollar price tag, i got it on sale as im not a idiot but still, the game feels like it was rushed, the story is entirely confusing. If you want fun, i do not suggest this game. world building was cool, but the animations in cutscenes are shoddy at best, the "tear drop" thing feels far too low effort. dont let my review base your judgement on the game, if you think it seems cool/fun, you can go ahead and try it.

Walking simulator interesante en cuanto a temática, planteamiento y estética, pero bastante mediocre en lo relativo a jugabilidad (y no por ser un walking simulator, sino por tener un control poco sólido y unas físicas que dejan bastante que desear). Es corto, sencillo y profundo en su mensaje, pero poco afinado, digámoslo así, en lo jugable. this game’s more about the story than anything. it’s kinda slow but the vibe is really good, like the whole flooded city and creatures thing is cool. gameplay is pretty basic, not much going on, but that’s not really the point. it’s more about the feelings and stuff it’s trying to show. chill game 10/10

Titolo del 2019 che ci racconta di depressione, solitudine, bullismo e famiglie disfunzionali utilizzando metafore, che non voglio spoilerare, che talvolta sono un pò troppo naif rispetto alla profondità dei temi trattati. L'idea è di spessore ma la sua trasposizione sarebbe dovuta essere più incisiva anche sotto l'aspetto puramente tecnico perché anche il gameplay è molto basic e non ben ottimizzato, la grafica è gradevole ed in linea con lo stile indie, idem il sonoro. In buona sostanza è un racconto interattivo, che segue una story-line predefinita, che vuole essere terapeutico e divertente permettendo a chiunque di immergersi in una piccola ma profonda storia di sofferenza e altruismo, di luci e ombre, di errori e gesti coraggiosi e trarne i giusti insegnamenti. Da prendere ma solo in se si trova in saldo.

This game is beautiful... Reminds me "What remains of Edith Finch" - one of my all time favorite game.
