Your primary (perhaps only) view will be a side view of the safe house similar to the XCOM games. You'll initially start with two rooms, and each room has these sorts of mini-puzzles that you must complete each day. As you build more rooms, each one will have a new mini-puzzle that you complete when the room blinks. Some of the mini-puzzles are extremely easy, others can be quite a bit more challenging. Failing a mini-game results in a loss of money, while succeeding will earn money. The money is then used to build more rooms in the safe house. The gameplay starts out very simply, but as you continue building your house, things will get more complicated as you get more and varied tasks to complete. There is a bit of story that is delivered by text dialogue, and it's interesting even if it's rather simple. Overall, we've been enjoying Safe House, though it perhaps might not be a game for everyone. If you're not sure if this is something you'd enjoy, check out our gameplay video linked below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FruEXrFOLg
I backed this game on Kickstarter before release. This is one of a handful of Kickstarter projects I've been truly disappointed with. The Kickstarter project showed promising mockups of what could have been an interesting game, if a bit simple. The ideas seemed to come from something like Papers, Please -- repetitive, simple activities that are made more interesting by introduced complexity. However, Safe House fails to introduce any interesting complexity -- each individual 'puzzle' is learned in its entirety the first time you do the minigame. None are particularly interesting the first time around. Most minigames involve just cross-referencing a basic list with the information in the minigame. There's little nuance in these games -- think the kind of 'puzzles' you'd find on the back of a cereal box. Nothing about the games themselves are particularly compelling -- which could be overlooked for other elements like a strong presentation, narrative, or if any part of the whole package managed to innovate on the ideas within. However, the presentation is lacking, with chunky 3D models with only the most basic of animation. There is one major music track you'll hear over and over, and many parts of the game are scored by silence or near silence. The interface is hacked together -- if anything could have been improved with relative ease, it would've been the vsiuals on these documents, all kinds of 'top secret' spy stuff. There's nothing compelling in the presentation of the game, which is a big disappointment as many of the mockup pieces look much better than the final product. The story is nothing to really marvel at, either -- there are some basic moral decisions over the course of the plot. There's no apparent new game plus mode and there's no real incentive to play through the monotonous main game again to get to the endgame again -- mind you, there's no 'save game' feature, so it's not like you can save right before making a big decision and go back to experience the other route -- no, if you really want to do that, you'd best play through the entire game again. Overall, this wasn't a great experience and I'm not really inclined to dig deeper to see if the other story paths make it any better -- which I really doubt, given the experience I've had so far.
meh. Backed on kickstarter and..just no.
Safe House A puzzle-based game, following a minimal spy-story, where you are the building manager, which expands these "daily" operations as you build new rooms in your "safe house" to unlock new puzzle games, which you are asked to carry out, in random sequences. +If you like puzzle-based games. +If you like simpistic old bond-style music +If you like casual repetition. -A little unresponsive. I think the game does what it is supposed to, very well. It is NOT a spy adventure, rts, shooter, sleuth game. It is an Office Manager game. I suspect I will be returning to play some more of this game again... when I need that old puzzle-game fix.
I spend very good time with this game. Some bugs, but they don't destroy gameplay. Mentioned in other posts slow screen moving does'nt affect the game, u've time to center the house anyway, before another task. It's simple game, but I can recomend it for few hours of gameplay.
I so wanted this game to be good.... Yet it's essentially unplayable. Even if the interface, (which lags like a turbo engine from the 70's), was fixed, what you're left with is an inane set of pointless and boring mini-games. Scroll, click, then match some letters or decode a message using an alphabet-shift (you need to write down) and you get some money. But why?! Why am I doing this simple and boring task?! You get no information from them, no advancement in the story...just some money to buy another room so you can play a different version of the same mini-game. I've had head colds that were more fun. This is supposed to be a strategy spy game...so where is the strategy? When do I get to make decisions, plan an operation, decide if someone is lying to me or not? If the answer is after several hours of 3rd grade letter puzzles, you've failed Intro to Game Design on day one. As a huge le Carre fan, I was looking forward to a cerebral espionage game that wasn't just another shooter in a tuxedo. Instead this game is nether; it's more Sudoko but less sexy and thrilling. DO NOT BUY, stick to Spy Party.
