Russian Village Simulator 2, developed by VD Games and PropilGames and published by VD Games, takes the quirky foundation of the original and reshapes it into a more grounded, traditional life simulation focused on rural living. Instead of relying on novelty or unusual settings, the game centers on everyday routines, placing you in the role of Ivan as he returns to his village to rebuild his life. From the beginning, the experience emphasizes slow progression, self-sufficiency, and the quiet satisfaction of working toward stability in a modest, open-ended environment. The gameplay is structured around a wide range of activities that reflect village life, including farming, gathering, fishing, hunting, crafting, and construction. You begin with very little and gradually build up your home, tools, and resources, creating a steady sense of advancement that ties the different systems together. The process of improving your living conditions—expanding your house, managing crops, and sustaining yourself—forms the backbone of the experience. While none of these systems are particularly complex on their own, they combine to create a loop that is easy to understand and approachable, especially for players who enjoy slower-paced simulations. One of the more noticeable changes from the previous game is the increased focus on community. The village is populated with other characters who provide tasks, trade opportunities, and small interactions that help give the world a sense of life. These elements add a layer of structure to the experience, offering short-term goals that complement the longer-term objective of building your livelihood. While these interactions are relatively simple and do not delve deeply into character development, they help create a feeling of connection to the environment, making the village feel less isolated and more like a functioning space. Despite the variety of activities available, the game struggles with depth and progression. Many of its systems follow predictable patterns that do not evolve significantly over time, leading to a sense of repetition once the core mechanics are understood. Farming, crafting, and resource management remain largely unchanged throughout the experience, which can make extended play sessions feel routine rather than dynamic. The lack of more advanced systems or meaningful progression paths limits the game’s ability to maintain long-term engagement. The open-world design offers freedom to explore forests, lakes, and surrounding areas, which adds a sense of scale and allows players to gather resources in different locations. However, the world itself can feel somewhat empty, with limited events or interactions to keep exploration consistently interesting. While the setting captures the atmosphere of rural life, it does not provide enough variety or unpredictability to fully immerse the player over time. Visually, the game presents a modest and somewhat uneven aesthetic. The environments are functional and recognizable, but they lack detail and refinement, and character animations can feel stiff. While the presentation reflects the game’s indie nature, it does not significantly enhance the experience, serving more as a backdrop for the gameplay rather than a standout feature. That said, there is a certain charm in its simplicity, particularly during quieter moments that align with the game’s relaxed tone. The pacing of Russian Village Simulator 2 is deliberately slow, which can be both a strength and a limitation. For players who enjoy methodical, routine-driven gameplay, this pace can be calming and satisfying, allowing them to settle into the rhythm of village life. For others, the lack of urgency or evolving challenges may make the experience feel stagnant. The game rarely pushes the player in new directions, relying instead on the player’s own motivation to continue progressing. Overall, Russian Village Simulator 2 succeeds in delivering a more cohesive and grounded experience than its predecessor, with a clearer focus on everyday life and gradual development. It offers a range of activities and a flexible structure that allows players to approach the game at their own pace. However, its limited depth, repetitive systems, and lack of polish prevent it from reaching a higher level of engagement. In the end, it stands as a modest but earnest life simulation that captures the essence of rural living without fully expanding on its potential. It is best suited for players who appreciate slow, routine-based gameplay and are willing to overlook its rough edges in exchange for a relaxed and open-ended experience. Rating: 7/10

Warning: Asset Flip!
Russian Village Simulator 2 is an asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", PropilGames/VD Games, took the Easy Survival RPG game assets from the real developers, Easy Systems, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work. It gets worse... They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Easy Survival RPG" is just an Unreal Marketplace complete game pack to teach people how to construct open world survival games, and doesn't have any merit as a proper, fully fledged PC game. It's just a minimum viable product, just enough to get through the non-existent quality control on Steam Direct. Not a real game. Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap out different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off. Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have, and make it harder for gamers to find real games from genuine developers.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This game features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling (16 CFR Part 465), these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law.
Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. Is this game one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? Russian Village Simulator 2 has the ridiculous price of $16 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. It's possible this price is either for the purpose of money laundering, or simply to prevent genuine reviews from reducing the fake "positive" review score from the fake reviews the developer paid for. Either way, this is unacceptable manipulation of the Steam store for profit. It's harmful to gamers and to genuine indie devs, because it gives indie devs a bad name. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from VD Games/PropilGames.
