Ruin of the Reckless reminds me of Nuclear Throne, but with tons more punching. This 2D roguelite brawler is fast-paced and unforgiving. The controls are super tight, the soundtrack is full of awesome chiptune, and you don't need to spend ridiculously long on a play session (though if you're like me, you will end up with a dozen "just one more try" runs after you inevitably die). I'm not at all disappointed in my purchase.
Ruin of the Reckless is a fast-paced combat roguelite game that can be brutally punishing, but never feels unfair. For those who liked similar top-down shooters, it's basically a melee version of it, with some power-ups that help you deal with overwhelming number of enemies. *The good* - VERY fast and responsive movement and attacks - can be played with both controller and mouse. I've tried both and feels equally satisfying. - a unique Chaos Card system where it mutates game mechanics and equipment to vary up the difficulty level. - it's not just melee-focused. You're also chain-dashing, throwing magic spells, blowing up enemy corpses, along with other skills. You're OP because of the hordes of enemies that are thrown at you. - the music is great!! *The not too good* - enemy variation is a bit limited - things can go south really quickly without life steal and regeneration - most melee weapons don't work very well. - even though you can change starting gear with cards similar to a class system, there's no exclusivity from each. Basically, you can get all gear normally while in a playthrough.
From the start, this game had me going nuts. It dialogue was fun, and the quick insertion into the madness was quite gratifying. I love the "Enter the Gungeon" Rogue-Madness feel that I had while playing. The game is easy to pick up, difficult to master, and hard to put down! I mean, come on, there are only 20 levels, right? ... ... Psssh, I found myself trying over and over to get through the first 10. The idea behind the game is simple, yet refreshing compared to other games of similar style. On launch, I can say that this game has a very polished feel, and leaves open so much potential for future development! I would definitely recommend this game to people that enjoy the genre!
fun game but i do have one complaint it is really hard to make progress whhen every time you die you lose everything,,, sure theres a way to make the game easier but what fun is that, there needs to be some sort of way to put checkpoints at eachhh shop instead of just the first one i have yuet to make it to the first boss at least more hp power ups would be nice , it is too random sometimes i get godly items somtimes i just get absolute garbage
Sem dúvidas um dos melhores Roguelikes que já joguei! Recomendo demais! Vídeo gameplay para quem quiser conferir o game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfkz2wdKgFA
Great game! Came here from the steam post and had a little extra money so I thought why not ?At that point there was no reviews so I had no idea what I was getting into. This was followed by 4 hours of nonstop gaming (While still not beating the boss in those 4 hours). Very difficult but very fun.
Full video review here: https://youtu.be/J52eSdnlIx4 https://vid.me/BxGe Ruin of the Reckless is a rogue-lite dungeon crawler where your nameless character must traverse levels of a mysterious forboding tower. As you ascend the dark tower, spirits of ever increasing difficulty, number and strength will try to oppose you from reaching the next level. The nature of the game lends itself well to any twin stick controller, but I found the keyboard controls more than adequate as I fought my way past 15 floors of intense brawling fights, of which there are plenty more. Character customisation is the key to gameplay here. You'll find anything from a elegant sword to stab your foes to a giant green hulk fist you smash down upon your enemies. Using various upgrades and trinkets, your character can be enhanced with greater stats, as well as the option to use "ability orbs" to further customise your characters skillset, my particular favourite was to summon an army of pets to do my bidding. To add even further challenge or even ease to the game, you can add cards to your character slots to change the flow and tide of battle. Resolution options are quite limited here, ranging from 1080p down to 720p with full support for both fullscreen and windowed mode. Screen shake can be fully turned off, which I found to be preferable over the default setting. Keyboard bindings are fully rebindable as well as some of the options for the controller, of which the XBOX 360, PS3 and PS4 controllers are supported. There's also local co-op play available, of which I haven't yet had the chance to test, but a lack of online co-op is notable. Ruin of the Reckless is easy to play, but difficult to master. Fans of other games in the genre should find something to like here, as the game strikes a good balance between difficulty and progression
It is a lot of fun. It has graphics and sound similar to Cave Story, only much more "realistic". The fighting is fun, and the screen shake feature is cool (You can adjust it down to nothing if you don't like it). I don't like that there are only 2 people to choose from, however. Also, the only other thing I don't like, is that each floor is timed. So you only have X amount of time to complete the floor before moving to the next. With that said, it is very challenging, and there are "chaos cards" (which are basically modifiers) that allow you to adjust the game to fit your play style. The developers seem to be really invested in their game and they are very responsive (He answered everything I asked on reddit). The graphics and sound are very charming. The story is meh, but good enough. The NPCs are likable. The enemies are cool looking. It is extremely challenging (at least to me). It has multiplayer, couch coop, but unfortunately no online multiplayer, and as of now there is no plans for it. According to the dev they would need to rework the whole game for that, so that is disappointing. Do not get this expecting online MP because he says that won't happen unless it sells very well. Overall it is a very enjoyable game, and certainly worth the 14.99. Not the greatest game ever, but certainly a lot of fun. I'd rate it an 8 out of 10.
Only a middling reccomendation and that's truly a shame. There’s a lot to like about Ruin of the Reckless. The graphics really pop, showcasing a world full of unique and interesting character designs. The melee combat really makes you feel powerful as you knock one slime into three more and send an entire room of enemies ricocheting around like billiard balls. As long as you enter with the right expectations, this ruin is certainly worth a look for a pair of friends seeking a new dungeon to crawl. Want to know more?
