Gotcha Gotcha Games will soon be shutting down and deleting the RPG Maker forums, erasing a decade and a half of user made resources, tutorials, and assets for the wider community to use and learn from. I don't recommend anyone purchase their releases because they show so little disregard for the community and its history.
With the closure of the RPGMAKER forums scheduled for December 11, 2026 JST, I can no longer recommend this program or any of the other versions available. The forums have helped greatly thanks to posts made by the users there; things that I would not have understood if I relied on solely the manual. I understand wanting a "fresh coat of paint" but the choice to favor this new 'RPG Maker Guild' while having, verbatim, "currently no plans to provide a public archive or backup of the current forum once it has been closed" shows how out of touch and how little respect for the community Gotcha Gotcha Games has. Even after years of learning the ins and out of this unintuitive program, I would recommend literally any other tool for anyone thinking of developing their own RPG.
Y'know, I was thinking of looking into using this software for possibly making some RPGs and whatnot some day, but hey, guess what? They're closing the community forums that have a ton of the resources one can use to actually get a better idea on how to use the older versions of the software (and even current ones!) with no plans to officially back any of the examples, tutorials, etc. up in any way. This makes the prospect of actually using, and learning how to use, the software considerably more difficult at best once it happens, and I don't have time to put in right now to learn it before then probably while I'm busy with some life things going on for me this year. If the company making this software cares this little about making sure people can still use software they're still selling with all the resources that, frankly, the store page itself advertises (they mention its compatibility with existing community made resources!), then they shouldn't still be selling it, certainly not for $70. If I hadn't gotten this for free during a giveaway the devs did, I almost think I'd consider refunding it! As-is, I don't anticipate buying other RPGMaker versions. I may still try using it since I got it for free and all that, but goodness me can I not recommend software pulling a stunt like that.
The devs/ publisher are destroying YEARS of community resources, guides, assets, support, etc. Preserving this knowledge would be so incredibly simple and IMO absolutely essential to keeping this franchise alive and thriving. This is absolutely unacceptable. And all for what? To try and force people to use a separate system that is unintuitive and barely used. I encourage you to NOT buy this software until the devs/ publisher screw their heads back on and show an ounce of respect for all of the hard work people have put into to make this an incredible software to use.
I hate RPG maker games, RPG maker has never really improved much in my personal opinion. Now they are shutting down the forums which contain many fan made things that actually enhance RPG maker for free. Goodbye RPG maker.
Keep the forums
Pretty good engine, I've been using it since 2023 and it works great, the community is good
The funniest version of rpg maker
I remember using this for most of my life. It's amazing and one of the best if not the best in the whole series.
