Was loving the experience until Gotcha Gotcha Games suddenly decided to throw 14 years of community content into a paper shredder. There won't be even an archive, leaving the fans and developers to grab everything they can before the ship sinks. They sure did get me because right now it's too late to get a refund.
The publisher has made the baffling decision to shut down the RPG Maker forums, destroying over a decade of searchable technical support and community assets. If you ever had a question about how to do something, there's a pretty good chance someone else already answered it. I can't describe how useful it was to google the question and have the answer immediately. For the tech illiterate (the average person using RPGM), this program is now much, much harder to learn, and for that effort may as well just learn how to use Godot or something. The RPG Maker hentai game scene may never recover from this.
Super cool of Gotcha Gotcha Games to sell the exact same program as MV again but this time it costs more money and has fewer plugins.
This engine lives on the efforts of the community, this is how it became popular and grew. It is very disappointing that the Forums and all of the years of community content are now gone without a trace. I was an am a used of MX and VX Ace. I have purchased the controversial new MZ plugins package. I have purchased Stella MX tool for UI and other tools as well. I was, at some point, one of the three "Hero" (highest tier donors) Patreon supporters for over five years. The tool itself is lacking a lot of items that were backfilled from the efforts of the community. I can not in good faith recommend this tool any longer due to the sheer feeling of betrayal.
不管不顾用户们辛勤付出,直接炸论坛是吧。看样子大家还是支持给的太多了。
NOT USER OR BEGINNER FRIENDLY AT ALL!!! This is falsely advertised as "beginner friendly" with "no coding necessary" but thats simply not true. It has no manual and you absolutely need coding to do anything other than walk around a grass field. further more any assets or plugins i bought instantly crashed my game. my entire playtime has been spent unsuccessfully troubeshooting. The people praising this as good must already be computer engineers. If youre not one, STEER CLEAR. This is the least beginners friendly software Ive ever seen in my life. Do. Not. Purchase.
RPG Maker MZ has managed to become a solid entry in the series over the years since its release, however it never managed to reach some heights of its predecessors, nor is it a perfect product in any way. The engine builds upon its predecessor "MV", meaning it comes with basically everything it offered itself: A modernized framework, additional features, as well as improved add-on support via plugins. MZ improved upon the latter in terms of handling, as well as adding a better layering system for the map editor, as well as some added tweaks for game systems. Aside from that however, it basically only updated its codebase for better performance, as well as updating its framework (nw.js wrapper and pixi.js for graphic rendering) in the process. Because of that, it was difficult to recommend the engine for a long while, since it did not add too much for the price it asked. Over the last years, they added a few more options in the editor to add mostly quality of life the old engine was missing. While not a game changer by itself, as a long time user, these added features - as well as the price decreasing during sales over the years - have made these changes valuable enough to justify this version over the old one. That said, while I recommend the engine for what it offers from a broader perspective, I must criticise that it still fails to uphold the polish of its earlier predecessors (pre MV) in terms of stability and the quirks it has in its UI and functionality. It has also not evolved enough, not with its modernization back with MV, and especially not with its event functions, which have mostly been unaltered since it early days back in the 2000s. By now, it has collected a solid amount of unnecessary limits and obstacles, which have to be solved by external plugins where possible. This is luckily the engine's biggest strength as-is, since you can change your game in a lot of (in-depth) ways that way, as well as even updating the framework mentioned earlier to use newer versions up to a certain extent. What has to be noted here is that, different to MV, the plugin market started to shift in its mindset with MZ. You will find a lot more plugins you have to pay for, and some of them may be unable to be edited. This is an overall downgrade at first, however it should be mentioned that the approach creators have for their plugins, as well as the expected quality, support and functionality/feature list has adjusted, as well. So depending on how you look at it or what you are looking for, it can also be seen as an improvement. Based on this, it is also the only remaining decision point of whether to go with MV instead of MZ, the latter basically being the better choice otherwise by now. And while not perfect, MZ still has a strong foundation, giving you a lot of options and possibilities to create your game within an editor that is easy to understand and work with.
Gotcha gotcha games deleted 20 years of user history, guides, and resources available for free on the RPGMAKER forums for.... literally no reason. So they could advertise their new forums. Actual pigs
Doesn't even have guard/guard captain sets anymore and too bored to import them from VX Why did they even got removed, they were fine.
I've played RPGs most of my life and I really like that fact that I can create one my own; very nostalgic with the graphics and gameplay. It's awesome!!
