So, this is a nice solitaire game but it's not a game with progression, it's like windows solitaire - you win or you don't win and then you play again. But there is an achievement for playing 10 games. The game is much more strategy than luck but you can sometimes be unlucky since you need a matching suit to be drawn to dismiss a royal. 100% Achievements completed in 90 minutes, I feel like I'd figured most of the strategies in that time. Easy Achievements IMO. Some value-add would be to have daily / weekly / monthly high score tables - The highest score for one match that is. No regrets buying this, I enjoyed playing it so it's a recommend for the price of £2.24 (~ $2.86)
💗 This game was gifted to Indie Therapy for review. Royal Card Clash is such a refreshing and addictive indie game! It takes the simplicity of classic card games like Solitaire and adds a really clever twist. Using number cards as "attacks" to defeat royal cards feels so satisfying, especially when you start planning your moves strategically. It’s super easy to learn, but don’t be fooled—it takes some serious thinking to master, and that’s what keeps me hooked. The relaxing soundtrack is a nice touch, and I love that the game tracks your performance stats—it’s fun to see how you improve over time. Plus, unlocking harder difficulty levels gives you a real sense of progress and challenge. If you’re into card games or just want something low-key but engaging, Royal Card Clash is absolutely worth a try. It’s one of those games that’s perfect for short sessions but hard to put down once you start!
A Card Game KING review
Royal Card Clash is a VERY simple game with charming graphics and one amazing soundtrack. Each turn you draw 3 cards where each card deals it's value in damage to enemy cards with the goal of destroying all royals (Hey!). The trick is that royals can only be killed by the card of the same suit. That's it! There are no active or passive powers, not different stages, no story, no bossess, just 3 difficulty levels. And that's perfectly fine, it's still a very well designed and fun. Not every game needs a ton of extra stuff...but it wouldn't hurt. The issue is that, while the game is fun, you would have seen it all in the first 5 minutes, and by the end of the first hour, there is not much else left to do. The strategies are simple, the variety-non existing, but a coffee-break game, perhaps, doesn't need it. It's exactly that, a game that is meant to be played every now and then to kill some time. If that's what you are looking for then it fits the bill perfectly. If, however, you are looking for something you can spend hours on at a time, then this isn't the game that can provide it.
The positive
+ Lovely graphics and animations + Excellent soundtrack + Solid gameplay (even if it lacks longevity).
The neutral
* Lacks some quality of life features - like a reset button and overview of cards killed and left in the deck. Not knowing the latter will often lead to games where you have already lost, but don't know it yet and reduces the number of tactical choices one can make.
The negative
- At the highest difficulty RNG is a much greater factor than skill.
Conclusion:
Coffee-break style game with simple but solid gameplay, great soundtrack and visuals but lacks depth and variety needed to support longer play sessions. Recommended. Royal Card Clash is a delightfully innovative take on classic Solitaire, combining strategic elements with the familiar gameplay that we all know and love. As you embark on a journey to defeat royal cards, you'll find yourself captivated by the game's unique mechanics and challenging gameplay. There are three modes of difficulty: Easy, Standard, and Extreme. The core gameplay is simple: you must use your deck of number cards to attack and defeat the royal cards before your deck runs out. This creates a sense of urgency and encourages thoughtful decision-making. As you progress, you'll unlock achievements and compete on leaderboards, adding a layer of excitement and competition to the game. One of Royal Card Clash's strongest features is its easy-to-learn but hard-to-master nature. With its intuitive design, the game caters to both casual players and those seeking a challenge. The game's visuals are clean and appealing, with a minimalist design that allows you to focus on the gameplay. The cards are easy to distinguish, and the game's interface is user-friendly, making it a joy to play on both mobile devices and PC. My Experience I had a good time with Royal Card Clash. It reminded me of another lightweight solitaire-style card game I played last year, Deck 'Em!. I played Royal Card Clash until I'd beaten the game on every difficulty at least once, and then continued until I'd accumulated 10 wins (which nets you all of the game's achievements). It's fairly simple, and has you attempting to attack and defeat all of the royals (face cards) in a deck by attacking them with the numbered cards and aces. Royals are arranged in three stacks with four cards in each. You're dealt three cards at a time, and can put one in a holding slot if you want to save it for later. A 2 card would do 2 points of damage to a royal (and so on), with the caveat that a royal can only be finished by attacking them with a card of the same suit. Aces can either knock a royal down to 1 HP, or finish a royal that has already been reduced to 1 HP. Something that it took me a while to realize (and hopefully this was intentional on the part of developer Gearhead Games) is that if you use an ace to finish a royal that is at 1 HP, the ace goes back into your hand. This is the only time you're able to use a card twice, and this played a substantial role in helping me conquer the highest difficulty. If you can appreciate a quick-playing, easy-to-learn solitaire game, I think Royal Card Clash could be just the thing. It's cheap, and I don't regret any of the time I spent with it.
Short, sweet fun to scratch that solitaire itch. Doesn't reinvent the wheel, but does it just different enough to have a good time. My only suggestion is once you reach the highest difficulty, it should unlock a table of all the cards you've been through. Otherwise, have a notepad handy.
I like everything about it. The bippity pixel art, the simple mechanics, the quick rounds/games, the need for critical thought at times and on higher levels. Highly recommend for the price. It’s nice not having to grind for anything (such as unlocks), but some unique card backs, animations, and maybe some sort of arcade game mode or something would be cool as additions. Great game, solid work, dev.
I don't get it, why would you go 80% of the way of making a game, create nice art, animations, sound and engine for it, and then... just stop and release after the initial idea? This could have been better than Balatro if the game was actually built and expanded upon (*cough* copy the Jokers *cough*), and instead you get bored after 30 minutes because you've literally played through the entire "mechanic" and just go through the motion each turn.
Echoing what GDJ has said. I enjoy what's here, it's really just missing a few small things to make it great. I would love some kind of customization either for the card backs, background or ideally both. A reset button would be nice as well, and maybe some steam deck/basic controller support. Otherwise, for $4 I can't really complain. The art is nice, and It's a simple and decently addictive little game that i'll probably go back to from time to time.
A neat card game that lasted me about an hour of play time to get all the achievements. Fun but not something i'd go back to replay again. 6/10 For more short reviews check out this: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Gaming_made_cheap
