This is a great implementation of the physical card game. I had never played the game before this version, but after losing several fights and winning one, I can say that this will scratch that itch you might have to play a deep "RPG lite" style card game of one on one tactical combat. It will be even better for you if you like the theme of dragons, but anyone who likes fantasy themed card games should at least check out the demo to see if they can get into it. The rules of the game were fairly easy to learn for me, but I have some experience with these kind of games. But at least for me, the combination of the tutorial tips, in game manual, and a few playthroughs making all kinds of mistakes was enough to teach me the game. Then I was able to put it all together in my third game and beat my opponent, although that was not without using all my cards to my advantage and a little luck. And that is something I really like about this game. Even once you understand it and can make good use of all your cards, there is still a chance you can lose. You keep spending resources to attack whether you hit or miss with that attack, but you can increase your chances by using attacks your dragon is better at versus a defense the opponent is weaker at, but that is easier said then done, as you also have to make due with your cards in hand at the time, because if you wait for a certain card to come out, you may just end up discarding it to pay for an attack or as damage from being hit by an attack. All that is to say that this is a very interesting game once you learn it, and each game is a fun exercise in balancing building your dragon, adding to the attacks it can perform, and pulling off those attacks enough times to get the opponent's deck and hand down to zero cards, at which time they are defeated. This game also creates some tense moments where even if you have a great set of attacks and your opponent is on the ropes, they could still win if you get very unlucky, but each turn you are trying to get them down to zero cards is a nailbiter that can go either way. Even with that, you never feel cheated when you lost, because you did your best, even though victory was just not in the cards for that game. But there is always next game, where you start all over with a new baby dragon.
PROS: - Card game about Dragons' fight - nice cards / art - complex actions and ruleset CONS: - very confusional - not beginner friendly - very long battles, if you are starting to grasp the game's content - a little tiring and/or boring NOT REVIEWED: - boss battles / mechanics - further ingame depth and progression As a Dragon lover, i picked up this game because it would have been a nice addition to my library (or hoard, since we're talking about Dragons). Also the game game seemed to look nice. Maybe it's a little too immature, or bad within its design, but i can't recommend this game. I feel sad about asking for a refund. Rules are, somewhat complex: at each turn, players have to go through several steps (setup, do 2 actions, attack, review and pass) and the same will do the opponent (AI). Each character, at each match, starts as cub/hatchling and must succesfully hoard 2 cards to shed skin (grow more powerful) the next turn. That enables you to do more complex attacks, and thus defeat the opponent sooner. Each match can be VERY long: after 90 minutes (15-20 spent reading the rules, the rest playing the very first match) i fled desperated. Several, if not all the "steps" are treaten as if you know perfectly how the game develops, so you inflict/suffer effects you are just starting to learn. Game's menus, actions, tooltips are VERY CRUDE, as if they have been taken from a 90's game (ie: Pandora's box...) There few-to-non-existant animations and effects (it would be cool to see little animations of dragons' growth, of their attacks, of their movements, and so on...) I feel very sad at telling you "don't buy this game", but i will still track its development. I still want to give it another chance in future.
I dont know... this game has to many complications i feel like. I thought after reading the rules at multiple points in the game i thought i could do certain actions, which i then wasnt allowed for some reason, that i couldnt undertand. The UI doenst help you much,it is too clunky and a bit bareboness at revealing the information that you need to know. What is annoying, is that most of your attacks rely on RNG to hit, since you and the opp. just excavate the top card of their deck and if your number is not higher than your opp. card, your attack doenst go through, So yeah... the game is to slow and gets frustarting, although i really like the design.
https://youtu.be/_4aAAHNYSw0 An outstanding game, one I thoroughly enjoyed playing and reviewing. Great artwork, excellent game mechanics, balanced play, plenty of progression, an epic score, and such a tonne of content for a great price. If you are looking for a review, then please take a look at the link above. Otherwise, get out there and buy DragonClash.
Bought because I like dragons and the concept of dragon duels. Unfortunately the game is poorly designed. Chance, more than anything else, determines success. That's to be expected in a card game but this game essentially puts dice rolling on top of cards to determine attack results, and as a result luck completely rules the day. At first it seems like its a game that balances upgrading your dragon from hatchling to elder wyrm with combat, and you have to choose which strategy to pursue. But eventually you discover that the stat improvements between upgraded dragon forms are so meager that you barely feel an improvemet from a stats perspective. To capitalize on improvements you need the right attack cards, and even then you have a dice mechanic and for all that trouble, when you finally land an attack unless it's a very powerful one the impact is very meager, since attacking costs health. As a result, the best strategy is usually to not attack at all. You see the problem? A fighting game, where fighting is usually a bad idea. A strategy game where luck (between drawing all the right cards and getting the right rolls) overrules strategy. This game makes me think that you can have cards or dice, but both and you're basically playing poker without the bluffing. Finally, the games are pretty slow. This wouldn't be a problem necessarily but you can't save a game and come back later. It's a really cool concept for a game with some beautiful artwork, but there's a reason magic, pokemon, and yu-gi oh don't require you to roll the dice when making a basic attack or dealing damage.

This seems to me like a digital version of a typical tabletop game (which it apparently is!) It's ok, but probably better suited to play between close friends than an AI. Decks are preset and games can last for about 20+ min, where you play against one of 5 decks with a boss encounter after every 3 wins. So... it is somewhat barebones by digitized card-game standards today: a few preset music tracks, standard backgrounds, no customizability and there taking a few extra clicks than perhaps necessary to get through phases. (It feels like a failsafe against making errors at times though, many a time have I stumbled in other digitized card games.) Janky story-introduction with 1-2 "english-not-first-language moments" and the extremely fast cuts to victory/defeat screens gives off an old 90's NES video game vibe. A little offputting at times, though I've also found it charming, I guess? The art is very nice. A few pieces reminds me of old school Magic the Gathering art (which is a pluss in my book.) Development looks to be discontinued, so what you see is what you'll get. I think that overall, if you like dragons and want to sit down an afternoon and learn a new card game system, I could recommend consider picking this up on a sale. I've gotten a few hours of enjoyment out of it so far.
