Fun, engaging with a difficulty that will keep you thinking
First 12 hours was playing the first 4 story campaigns to learn the game and then creating my own characters based on family and friends. Then I started my first (and meanwhile my second) run and I must say its really fun and insanely big. When you start at the bottom as free officer the game plays more like a little relationship game. You get to know people, eventually gift them gifts and become friends until you get recruited or decide to serve under a banner. At first you have few controls over what you do as an officer you just get dragged around and are forced to fight in battles. (like a normal soldier) Then the higher you rise in ranks the more the game becomes a strategy game and the more control you get where to go and what to do while the relationship gameplay is still important. Because now you dont become friends with others because you like them so much but because you want to recruit them in your rulers empire or ally with them. At a point you eventually rose so much in ranks that you now manage your own city while your ruler still wants things to be done but he doesnt force you anymore instead you have the choice if you want to do it or not but you also have to handle all consequences because you are in a main position now. You still have to get friends to recruit them in your city so they can work for you though. In my second playthrough my ruler died and his wife became the new ruler. Because I was really close to her I became the Vizeroy of the kingdom. When she died through an attack of the coalition against her I stepped up and had now the full control over the empire but I also had to deal with everything she left behind. (the war against the coalition for example) but now nobody was above me to tell me what to do. At this point (as ruler) you have full control about everything in your kingdom. And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. You have cities to your officers so they manage but you still have to tell them what they should do while you have to make meetings on your own to discuss the future of your kingdom while you fight wars, manage your city, recuit new people and between all this you might find your true love. Because the only thing you could do at the start and what followed you through every step (getting friends and building relationships) became somehow even more important now because you dont live for ever and you want your kingdom in good hands when you die someday so you want to marry and get a child on your own to raise it as your heir. When you die you can then choose to continue playing as your heir until you either united china, died without a heir or until you reach the year 350 when the game ends on its own since the Three Kingdom era ends there. Remember at the beginning when I told you the game is insanely big. I didn't lie didn't I? ;) You are about to go on an insane journey and you will have fun with it while you will have your ups and downs.
This is a very fun game. In my opinion, is best to purchase the expansions along with the game to achieve maximum experience
