Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 1: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Pretty sure Koei forgot to disclose they used AI-generated art. Lot of the animated faces especially look like they were rendered by whatever company pushes out all the low-effort AI chatbot girlfriend apps, and I do not want that from a company charging upwards of $100 for a base game and DLC. If you're charging that much, you either pay for artist, or you hire better ones that can make it *not* look like slop. I didn't get too far into the game, but I liked the original ROTK8 which is why I was willing to dive into this despite the price. But I think I will just go back to the original, I didn't see anything here that made me feel like as if it was justified.
Get this game for the turn based experience. The only legit reason to get this over 13 This version even with puk is still too barebone compared to 13. The highlight is the design is based on turn based chess game This game has controller support There is a set of story events you can trigger to start historical events, assuming you can fulfill the conditions during gameplay (some seems impossible or too random for some) There is no prisoner system after each battle There is no bait and switch by luring enemy armies like in 13 Many features are implemented i guess for the turn based design, but these changes seem to make the game more restricted and lacking detail. The battle is skill based, so officer improvements gameplay still takes a prominent role in winning battle. Battle is more strategic compared to 13 since it is turn based. Relationship gameplay is enhanced with more detail. All in all, the highlight is the tales system and friendship/foes improvement from 13. Expensive game. If you want a faster paced game and feel like you have control of your empire, ROTK 13 real time design is better
Well, Where to begin, settle in as this is a long read, but the TLDR version Enjoying it big time!, wish they supported my ultra screen monitor in my 3440x1440 resolution (so there's no black bars on the side), and I'm loving it with the PUK (while not that meaty in content it's still a must buy in my eyes to enjoy the base game honestly..) Now the long version... (I have a tad longer version I'll be posting on the Koei Discord page under the RTK 8 Remake section..) Let's start with back when the game was released in the West back in Oct 2024. Like most fans of the series at this point I brought it day one, but sadly was turned off by the passive AI and more importantly the fact it didn't truly support my Ultra Wide Screen - 3440x1440 monitor. It offers my resolution as an option in the settings, yet when I load into the game I see the dreaded "Black Bars" on the side of the screen which is usually the sign the game doesn't support an ultra wide screen monitor. The fact this is still a thing in 2024 irked the hell out of me, so honestly I refunded the game then and moved on for a bit. However, being the RTK fan at heart I still kept tabs on this game through the course of 2025 and noticed that patches and such were slowly improving the game and then they announced the Destiny and Strategy PUK and once again it had me intrigued. Naturally I didn't have the base game, I went with the bonus combo for 70 bucks to get it again when the PUK came out in January and even though I knew my ultra widescreen format was still not properly supported I said screw it, and spent the 70 bucks as my thinking was it's like getting a brand new Ps5 game anyway, heh. Plus I'm now at a point in my life where spending 70 bucks is not gonna break the vault. And the result? Well as you can see from my playthrough these past 2 weeks, I've now pretty much put over 80 hours, even with those dreaded black bars on the side when playing due to my ultra screen monitor. While not much in content compared to RTK 13's PUK, it did just enough in my eyes that totally changed how I enjoyed the game. Since I'm playing with PUK, I wanna talk about it's features here, starting with the Gem System which is great, think of it as a skill system, and some Gems are totally cool and OP to have, the downside though only you have access to the Gem System, the AI doesn't it seems, which is a shame because I always like equal footing scenarios when it comes to the AI and I think it would make some truly interesting dynamics if AIs like Cao Cao had access to the Gem System. The AI has also seemed to be improved big time, governors actually attack on their own, and it just makes the game feel more lively and all. As for the other big feature of the PUK, Turning Points at first I disabled it because some of the potential ones you can get (like the one that makes all your officers loyalty from 100 to 50, is just absurd and not cool) were just too game breaking, however, with the last few patches they've added more options to fine tune those settings in turning points and also allowing you turn off that annoying loyalty turning point all together in the scenario options before you start the game. Based on the notes that's coming in March more options to tweak the turning points are coming, so this is great in my eyes and because of this I started playing with the Turning Point system and overall i really enjoy it. I am also very curious on the potential DLC that's coming in March maybe as usually when an event editor is released they sometimes do Events as DLCs too for like 5 bucks, they did it for RTK 14, and I'm always a fan of more events. But those kind of editors will never receive any traction unless Koei considers a Steam Workshop support. Speaking of Events.... I love the Tales system, granted a lot of the random events (non-historical ones) are few are far between, and once you've seen it once you're basically just skipping them for the rest of your game, but you still do em for the nice bonuses they give. As for the other end of the spectrum, the Historical Events are fantastic... This is what I always loved about the series and it's ability to tell a story while playing the game. I also like the fact that they added fictional branches in case you wish to deviate from the set course (like Sun Ce living, Lu Bu doesn't kill Dhong Zhou, etc...) I do wish they tweaked some historical triggers within the Events, a particular event come to mind. I found it annoying was the 207 start after the Battle of Chi Bi. if you go the historical route and Cao Cao loses, for some reason instead of those independent rulers spawning in Southern Jing, it's Cao Cao who remains there, which presents odd scenario for Shu and Lui Bei if you want to historically unite the southern Jing provinces since you still have to deal with Cao Cao's best generals in Southern Jing as usually the AI will move the best generals on the border and makes advancing in that area problematic, still doable but not as quickly as it was done in the past from my experiences with this type in RTK 13 and RTK 10, which properly spawned the necessary new leaders in the Jing Province. The funny thing is if you choose a later scenario say 208 or 209 those Southern Jing leaders are there and it's not Cao Cao, so again it's weird results if you want to use that event and all. As for the AI itself as said before it's improved big time, not much else to say other then I think Koei needs to do some adjustments to Lui Biao's AI, so far i've done like 4-5 scenarios and almost every time Sun Ce or Sun Quan just mops him up with ease... There's a reason Lui Biao stayed in power for so long down there, and the game doesn't really reflect that yet. Now, I do want to turn back to whole Ultra Widescreen not being supported though... Normally when a game doesn't support my monitor I tend to give the game an automatic thumbs down because it bothers the hell out of me that a game in 2025 won't support this resolution for some odd reason. I'm not asking for Cutscenes to play in my 3440x1440 resolution, I know that's difficult to do, but normal gameplay, to me, there's no excuse why it can't be supported. If this game wasn't so niche, I'm sure there would have someone document how to do the "hex edit" for this like I've done for popular past games in the Assasin Creed franchise for example, but sadly this game is not popular enough to have that kind of documentation or even a plug in from an app I use like "Flawless Widescreen" to fix it for me. It's honestly purely on the developers to do it, but i don't get why they won't. It's funny cause right before I started to dive into RTK 8 Remake, I felt nostalgia for Rome so I booted up Rome Total War 2 , believe it or not that game over 10 years old at this point supports my 3440x1440 Ultra Widescreen without any issues at all!... Incredible that a game from 10 years ago can do this, but this game can't? Finally, the last thing I'll say... Noticed how I talked about the PUK features in the base game review, honestly, it's because it's needed... Is overpriced at 30 bucks for essentially 2 mechanics? yes totally... but if you truly want to experience RTK 8 Remake as it's meant to be, you'll need to buy that PUK i feel, but naturally it's your money so it will be up to you honestly.
