Rite of Passage 3: Hide and Seek (IHOG) What happened to the children? Options include separate sliders for Music, Ambients, SFX and Voices, Full-screen, Aspect Ratio and Custom Cursor. Choice of three preset difficulties, or you can go with Custom mode. Story: When you were young, you and your friends were playing hide-and-seek when a frightening fog appeared and took them away. You escaped, but the other children - including your little brother - disappeared, never to be seen again. Your father went looking, but never came home. You and your mom moved away, leaving you only the strange scar on your hand and the wistful longing of a child who's lost what she held dear. Now, twenty years later, you've found evidence that your father may still be alive! Why would your parents lie to you, and why were they so desperate to keep you away from your hometown? Return to Greystone to find the answers that you seek! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1827422741 Although the Rite of Passage games can be played as standalones, there is a repeating character throughout the series whose presence has a deeper meaning if you've played the previous games. Our Journal has three "tabs" - Story, Achievements and Objectives. In this story we have choices on how we interact with others. These selections will affect your karma meter, which in turn will influence the way things turn out in some way. I'm Ms. Goody Two-shoes, so I'd have gotten the best ending, even if I hadn't know that there could be a difference. (I looked on Youtube and couldn't find the alternate ending, so if you know, message me and tell me about it!) The interactive stories have returned, and fill us in on the background info in such a great way. This time we have two images that we have to make identical. It sounds like a spot-the-differences mini, but it's more fun than that, don't worry. ;) Gameplay: Be on the lookout for collectible handprints. You'll find the indicator for missing collectibles in the bottom left corner of the screen. The MAP can be interactive - depending on which difficulty you've chosen - and has insta-teleport capability. Directional HINTS are available. Each Hidden Object Scene has a morphing item for you to find in addition to the listed items. There are multiple HOS types, ranging from the standard, lightly-interactive scenes to finding matched pairs to placing items back where they belong.... and sometimes a mixture of several types! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1828263485 The Mini-games were mostly fun, although a few were too easy, and others too hard. That scar on your hand has more meaning than your character could have possibly guessed, granting you special abilities to help you on your path. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say that they are nicely-integrated into the gameplay, and neither over nor under-utilized. Sights and Sounds: I liked both the general sound work and the music, which set the tone for the game nicely. The artwork for the game is pretty, with nice character design and some interesting perspectives. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1828263127 CE Content:

Integrated Strategy Guide
Bonus Chapter
Collectibles Hunt (find Handprints you missed during the game)
Treasure Hunt (find new "treasure" item at each location)
Alchemist's Table (Extra HOS with a bit of mixing to create a potion)
16 Wallpapers
7 Imaginings (Concept Art process with descriptions)
6 downloadable Music Tracks
8 Storybook Sequences
17 Hidden Object Scenes with scoring (can go in just long enough to grab morphing items and back out if you wish)
12 Cutscenes
8 Cast mini-puzzles with bio descriptions for each character
Forest Runner mini-game
Bonus Chapter: The main game's ending was complete, but the extra chapter takes the story just a step further, giving us some extra information that you may not have noticed was missing. You'll be able to find the remaining collectibles and morphing items during this hour+ of game time. Verdict: I had a lot of fun with this one, and the storyline kept me playing even when I should have been in bed. The recurrent character adds extra depth, not only to this game, but to the series in general, something which I really enjoyed. A quality game, and one which I recommend.
Rite of Passage: Hide and Seek is the third game in the Rite of Passage series. However, much like other Big Fish published games, this isn't a sequel to the first two. It does share a narrator who sort of acts as a 'quest giver', but otherwise the games are different. The player starts with a memory about a fog that appeared as you were playing hide and seek with a bunch of your friends. You were the only one to escape, while your brother and father were lost to the fog. It cuts to the day after your mother died, and as you go through her belongings you find out that your father is still alive. This motivates you to find him and get to the bottom of the mysterious fog. So how does this game play? It is a combination of Hidden Object Screens, Point and Click moments, and puzzles. The HoS weren't tough, and I will give the game credit at least for trying to vary it up: some screens were 'what is different about this picture from this other one', while others had you search out items instead of just a written list. Most of the puzzles aren't too tough, and if you played any number of HOGs, then they will certainly be recognizable. Additionally, this game allows you to tailor the difficulty somewhat. You can lower the time for recharging hints or skipping puzzles to 15 seconds, or go beyond 90 seconds. This is especially helpful if you find such things tedious or tough. The game also has a few instances where you have a chance to make dialogue choices and what you chose is supposed to affect the ending. Now, this boils down to a binary choice of 'altruistic of selfish', so don't expect any nuance. Unfortunately, I don't think most people will play this game just to see a different ending, but I appreciate the effort the dev did to change up the formula a little. Finally, as this is a Collector's Edition, beating the main game opens up an additional story which acts as a mini-continuation. The game doesn't allow Steam achievements, though there are some internal ones available which don't really affect much. So did I find some negatives? Yes, but most of these boil down to personal tastes. First, there is no actual rite of passage that the player undergoes, unless you count some of the puzzles she has to solve to progress in the game. Second is lack of environmental coherency in the game. Now, if you play the average HOG, there is a certain amount of disbelief you have to employ to enjoy the game. However, this seemed particular noticeable to me in this game. Third is a minor bug I came across. During the occasional cut scenes, the sound/music didn't play. It played fine in ever parts of the game, and voice worked in all scenes. It is possible this was just something weird on my end. Would I recommend this game? I would say yes if you buy it during a Steam sale. Otherwise, it is hard for me to recommend getting it at full price. It certainly isn't a bad game, but neither did I find it gripping enough to suggest going full price.
The game wasn't bad. Actually fun for awhile. The problem I had with it was that some of the mini games were poorly explained. When you finally fight the bad guy (girl), it tells you that you need to match symbols to beat her. However, even if you do so, it repeatedly puts you back to the beginning just to make the puzzle more difficult. There's no timer or even any mention of a time limit so it's nothing more than the developers trying to be clever. I skipped the puzzle out of frustration because the game didn't feel it was necessary to tell players how to actually get past it. Nothing worse than an easy puzzle made difficult by handsy developers who can't just leave us alone to beat the game. For this reason alone, this game is not recommended. That's right Mad Head. It's that serious. You've done this in other games too and it's high time you realize that enough is enough. Either find the creativity to come up with challenging puzzles if that's what you want to do or leave things the way they are. (I realize Mad Head went out of business years ago. Just saying...)
Recommend on sale Pros .Clear crisp artwork/graphics/scenes .Enhancing music/sounds/voice acting .Four difficulty modes, including custom .Can change difficulty mode in-game .Mini-map with fast travel .Lockable toolbar .Gears appears when item in position for possible use .Simple to moderately complex adventure play .Variety of great hidden object scenes .Collectables (handprint) .Morphing objects in hidden object scenes .Strategy guide .Average length .Bonus chapter Cons .Story was tedious and choppy .No atmosphere .Mini-puzzles tended towards simplistic and easy .Way too many matching scenarios .The 'new powers as the plot demands' sigil was poorly done Final Words (7/10): The parts were definitely greater than the whole.
It is a classic hidden object game and it's nice to play a game that is well done.
This game is a lot of fun if u have steam if not i would recommend you download steam
Well i abs. loved the snow, and seeing as we never got any over Christmas, i loved it! The colour of the video was stunning, and i am really enjoying it. I certainly would recommend this to others. My son Paul set me up for Steam and am so very pleased he did it so that i can order any games myself, and will certainly be checking some of the games on here! So pleased i found Steam, it was only because i asked Paul about it as he has hundreds of games which i believe he purchases many from Steam so does his two daughters.
Mad Head just copypastes the same game over and over again. It's still solid but it's still the same game, with same mechanics, similar story and same art style. I wish they were more creative – like they were with Adam Wolfe.
Very enjoyable game. Story is compelling and puzzles are fairly difficult but not hard enough from playing this game.
