If hyper light drifter and wizard of legend decided to unite, would this be the result? It features colorful pixel art and an arsenal of magical weapons. The wraiths are not very threatening at the moment, but if you continue to venture into unexplored worlds, they may threaten your life... but you must move forward to rescue the hostages. Let your curiosity and desire for adventure naturally push out fear.
Early Access Review 5/27/24: Solid Game. The Wraithbinding concept is pretty fun-looking forward to seeing how this plays out in co-op. Overall, the game scratches all of the feel good itches for anyone looking for an early 90's pixelated dungeon exploring adventure-but add a hint of the macabre. The art direction is fantastic, the enemies are my favorite, simple, but kind of creepy, think 'Attack on Titan'. Great work Wizardfu, looking forward to Act II
TLDR Wraithbinder is an incredibly fun roguelike with unique visuals that all work in tandem with both the environment, genre and even within the sequel set within the same universe 'Songbringer' - Wraithbinder is a very ambitious project to only be made by a single individual, but the love and care that goes into the work for this game is incredible. Lots of time goes into improving it as well as listening to the communities feedback and is always taken positively. The gameplay only improves as you play more and can feel quite punishing initially. Gameplay Incredibly fun, built around learning curves and encourages you to learn enemies and their gimmicks, bosses can be fun but some tend to be too underwhelming or overwhelming. - Some enemies also lack telegraphing and can be a little janky, but this is always being improved. Dashing and abilities are a lot of fun, and the existing three melee weapon types are all good for different scenarios. Players will find themselves approaching each set of enemies a tad differently considering some enemies can even disarm your player. Progression Progression includes a mix of both permanent and non-perma rewards - During your runs you will obtain relics that benefit your run, but you will also be rewarded with Gold, Light, Metal and Ability Keys of which are permanent. You can spend Gold on the Merchant & Blacksmith, Light on the Mystic to permanently improve your gear, and Metal on the architect for benefits during your runs. You will also obtain gear such as armor that you will keep forever. Abilities you unlock during a run are also permanently unlocked and you will be able to mix and match many of them that suit your playstyle. My Gripes Bosses tend to feel not very rewarding, and some existing room types aren't much fun when they're meant to be gimmicky, however this is all subject to change and be iterated upon so I have no issue with it for now. Still recommend the game!
I love Songbringer so much and when i heard this game was in development i was watching this games development as much as i could and now that its out I love this game and i cant wait to see what the creator has in store for this game. My favorite part of this game is definitely the repeatability this game has and the other npcs that you can fin throughout the game and how easy it is to get dragged into this games story despite it barely being in early access and for this game to be made by one person is astonishing and cant wait to see what act 2 and 3 have in store in the near future
I’ve been lucky enough to play Wraithbinder throughout its development so I’m not unbiased but through development, demos and into early access I love the game it has become. A unique looking action game with great combat, a cast of fun NPCs and enemies and a unique wrathbinding mechanic that forces your former foes to work for you. It’s well worth your time. Works great on a Steamdeck too!
This is a fun game. My son and I both enjoy it. I like the challenge of trying to power my character up to be able to defeat my difficult enemies. He likes running through the game recklessly and narrating his actions.
This game is peak, I'm either doing really good or doing really bad. Loot is always rewarding, obviously some things need work, but all of it is just sooo good.
Wraithbinder is an action roguelike RPG which seamlessly combines aspects of various genres including Zelda-likes, hack and slash RPGs such as Diablo, and Metroidvanias. Those familiar with Wizard Fu's other title Songbringer will find themselves right at home with their latest title, Wraithbinder. Advance through procedurally generated dungeons, collect intriguing loot and upgrade your skills and abilities. Encounter the limits of your skill and rise again to push your way to the top of an eclectic city in pursuit of a TItancrow what that stole your offspring. Meet interesting characters such as the ARCHITECT and the BLACKSMITH as you and your crew ascend to heavy, rad cyber-Lovecraft tunes. Feel the weight of your enemies as they crunch beneath your feet and build the staircase to your apotheosis. It's early access, but Wizard Fu is building on a strong basis and is incorporating player feedback as they work to craft a unique experience. Take a gamble now or wait until it releases - you can't go wrong either way.
I have played Wraithbinder a few times through the beta play periods, and this game has really grown and shaped into something unique. It is really clear that the dev is taking the time to listen to feedback, and allow the game to eb and flow how it needs to get to its full potential. There is this sense of discovery in the way you are able to ascend and descend through a run; rather than just being full speed ahead, that I really enjoy. That paired with only basic guidance on how to use weapons/abilities/armors/etc. and allows the player to adjust and find things out on their own. I am really excited to see where this game continues to grow -- and for more to come at full release!
A delightful lil romp in a stylized world. The first thing I noticed was the shaders that added a lil extra to the experience, just wait until you rotate the camera! The combat is snappy and the progression feels appropriate. The difficulty seemed appropriate in that I definitely had some trouble, but gosh dang I also found Hades difficult. It reminded me quite a bit of wizard of legend in how the movement and combat felt. I enjoyed the variety in weapons, they felt well balanced and I was able to find something that suited my play style. Sometimes I wished I could scroll through the dialog faster, I'm a quick reader. I'm excited to see how this game evolves and to put a bit more time into finding my precious child!
