Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender

Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender is a point and click adventure game from 1992. This is important because at the time, this game improved the genre from where they used to type in the commands and hoping it works, and instead getting menu options. But unfortunately the mechanics presented don't help the already meh story. Some of the bad mechanics which was acceptable at the time such as pixel hunting, screwing up a terminal location that takes you to other locations (the car in the city about half way through the game) where you can't just click on the map, and the DRM which requires you to look up words in the manual (if you re-release games like this remove this kind of DRM for **** sakes). The story is in a similar situation, where they play to 50-70s B grade science fiction tropes. Interestingly enough it even has the bait and switch with sex appeal in the advertisements, even know there is very little sex in the game. Unfortunately the game is not funny enough to make the story work (this can work very well if done right), instead using gender stereotypes as a replacement for humor. Overall it is a 6.5/10, would not recommend.

This game was recomended to me by my lovely parents, who owned a copy of the original. I actually ended up buying it so my mother can relive her love of cheesy 90s games. However I gave it a go when I installed the game for her, and after sitting through the long cut scene (you can tell I'm used to modern games x) ) I pissed myself laughing repeatedly. Just 5 minutes or so into the actual play, and I was telling some woman that Forks go whereever they land when I throw them from the kitchen. And somehow, this proved I was a real man. From what I have learned from my parents of this game, I am expecting things to just get funnier from here.

Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender takes me back to the good old days of DOS PC games. It is billed as a graphic adventure game, and while it is that, the storyline is kind of flimsy. There is no real questing, just puzzles and obstacles to overcome as you travel from one place to the next. Slowly you learn what has happened on the planet you crashed into. I prefer playing games on the hardest settings, and with Rex Nebular, the hardest settings mean the most amount of puzzles and obstacles to resolve, as well as the most amount of death encounters. There are a lot of ways to die. If you want a good idea of how this game is and are familiar with the NES, the original Shadowgate is a decent comparison for how this game works. It surprised me as being not that bad of a game and in the early 90's there were A LOT of bad games, though I'm not sure what kind of price tag I would put on it. Since it is a DOS game, you can probably find a freeware version somewhere. The graphics look like crap, but it's 23 years old, so what do you expect. Personally, save your money and find a shareware or freeware version somewhere. Nothing against the game itself, I think it's mediocre as a game, but I don't think it is worth paying money for in 2015.

Rex Nebular is a classic comedy point-and-click adventure game. You play as Rex Nebular and your quest is to retrieve the vase from a unknown planet when you're suddenly attacked by female invaders hunting down the male race. If you're into comedy type point-and-click adventure games and have a couple bucks to spare, I recommend this old school game Rex Nebular. Don't forget to go through the copyright protector. The manuals are in the folder when you purchase & install the game. This review is from someone (like myself) who remembers playing Rex Nebular from a IBM computer back in the early 1990's when I was a kid. I had Windows 3.1 before Windows 95/98 was made. Good times...

Honestly, this game is pretty trashy. It's filled to the brim with sexism and transphobia, and it doesn't really have any redeeming qualities besides. The storyline and writing is mediocre and the gameplay and puzzles aren't terribly engaging. The only reason I bought this game was for the sake of nostalgia; I remember playing this on my grandpa's computer when I was much too young to understand any of the sex jokes. If you're looking for a blast from the past this game serves well enough, but if you don't have any nostalgia attached to it, I can't really recommend it.

Great game. Horrible copy-protection. The protection requires you to navigate to the installation directory, find the correct pdf and enter word X from line Y on page Z. The process is non-intuitive, cumbersome, not documented in any way, and support took over a week.

Coge dos piezas de Leisure Suit Larry, una pieza de Space Quest y luego haz todo mucho más provocativo y políticamente incorrecto y ahí lo tienes Rex Nebular, una humorística aventura (point and click) de Microprose. Un idiota viaja por el espacio haciendo trabajitos y tratando de llegar a fin de mes. Al principio del juego te contrata un magnate del espacio para encontrar algún tipo de vasija en un planeta perdido, te estrellas en él, y pronto descubres que el planeta está poblado sólo por mujeres ... YeeHaaw !!! ¡Tiempo de fiesta!, y casi toda la gente en el juego son madres de gatillo fácil ultra-feministas. Ahora bien, como he mencionado a principios de este es un juego de buen humor, así que la historia no es más que una excusa para establecer las mordazas y dirección principal de los chistes en este juego. Y hay que admitir que cuando se toma Rex "Himbo" Nebular se enfrentarán a un grupo de feminazis los resultados son, incluso si se esperaba, bastante de risa. El sentido del humor en este juego es sin duda políticamente incorrecto y muy nervioso, el juego se centra en las reacciones de los personajes animados como la vida, aventuras, escatológicos y de juventud en general. No encontraras observaciones inteligentes y sarcásticas o sparrings verbales ingeniosas en este juego, y simplemente no hay nada de malo en eso. Es lo suficientemente loco y lo suficientemente maduro para sacar provecho de todo su potencial y tiene un montón de momentos hilarantes y situaciones que le dan un montón de encanto. El juego utiliza un motor típico Scumm-ish para que pueda explorar el mundo y resolver los diferentes puzzles en el juego, que para ser justos son bastante fácil, pero inteligente y muy bien distribuidos. Técnicamente hablando del juego también fue un logro importante, con personajes crudamente digitalizados (que eran, no obstante, una maravilla para la vista) hermosos, gráficos detallados y animación suave, incluso se jactó de voz digitalizada para algunas secuencias y animaciones de 3D. Una verdadera aventura hilarante que también pasa a ser un juego de aventura clásica muy bien ejecutado. Este juego está mucho más cerca de Larry/Monkey Island o Space Quest. Todo depende de ti realmente. ¿Puedes reírte de cosas por el estilo Machopolis, cambios sexuales repetidos y una chica gorda que te mata al estrellar su culo gordo sobre ti? Nota: 9/10

I may have my nostalgia goggles on, but still I will say that everyone has to play this game at least once in their lives.
