i like the areas and the story is good with some stupid dialogue here and there but the gameplay was so bad, never again please never again i dont wanna go back ever again
A very competent game which lays the groundwork for resident evil and survival horror as a whole. I don't feel like it holds up as much as I was hoping, it can be a little boring sometimes, a lot of the game is just walking around avoiding zombies and doing very simple puzzles, the horror of it all feels a little too understated, and the stars members could use a little more personality. But it's overall fun and interesting, the best part of the story is definitely inferences about what's happening and the notes, this game excels best in implying. The Lisa subplot added for the remake is super neat, but I also do wish she was a little more prevalent, I feel like she's kinda forgettable in the gameplay even if her story is nice. Despite all of the negatives I do love the stars team in this game and I should also say I haven't played Chris yet, as this game has two playthroughs with stories that are a little different. (which makes me wonder if needing to do that left less budget for each playthrough). I'd recommend it simply because there is a game to be loved and it's cool to see the origins of this awesome series, I'll have to update this review after playing Chris eventually and the original Resident Evil and see if that changes my perspective of this game.
Good game, dood
This might be the most frustrating gaming experience I've ever had. The camera controls are nonexistent, the combat is severely underwhelming, and the game gives little to no information when it comes to objectives. The "bosses" are far too easy to beat and tend to be on screen less than side characters like Richard (rip hero). I do appreciate the world building in this game, as it gives the player a lot of lore to read up on and makes a good amount of it necessary for completing the game. I also quite like the creature designs (and I love the characters already because I play Dead By Daylight). I think watching a lore video about RE1 would be a better use of one's time, but I understand the nostalgia people feel towards this game.
