Resident Evil defined what we now know as survival horror. The story of S.T.A.R.S. entering the mysterious Spencer Mansion is legendary. Strange murders, zombies, hidden experiments, and the iconic mansion itself created an atmosphere that still works today. The game feels like a playable B-movie horror, complete with awkward dialogue, cheesy acting, and unforgettable moments that became part of gaming history (Jill Sandwich). What makes Resident Evil special is its design. The fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, limited ammunition, inventory management, and classic tank controls all work together to create tension. Every door opening, every corridor, and every sound can make you nervous because you never know what is waiting around the corner. The soundtrack is also incredible. From the mysterious mansion themes to the relaxing save rooms, every piece of music perfectly supports the atmosphere. Even decades later, many tracks remain some of the most memorable horror game compositions ever created. The gameplay can feel outdated today. Tank controls require some adjustment however, this element is also part of what makes the game unique. The best way to experience the original today is with fan improvements. The PC version can be heavily upgraded using Classic Rebirth and HD texture mods created by the community, improving compatibility, visuals, controls, and overall presentation while keeping the original atmosphere intact. Resident Evil is not perfect, but it is historically important and still incredibly enjoyable. It is a game that shows how limitations can create creativity and tension. Without this title, modern survival horror would probably look completely different. Pros: + The game that defined survival horror + Incredible atmosphere and mansion design + Fantastic soundtrack + Memorable monsters and locations + Great resource management + Classic horror movie feeling + Excellent use of camera angles and sound design Cons: - Tank controls can be difficult for new players - Some puzzles are confusing - Voice acting and dialogue are very dated (but funny as hell) Highly recommended for horror fans and anyone interested in gaming history.
a pesar de ser un juego de hace 30 años, aun funciona en mi opinion, la atmosfera es muy buena y el terror es increible, aun me da sobresaltos en algunos momentos y tiene una buena banda sonora que ayuda a sentir cierto suspenso o miedo.

haven't yet finished the game but I will say, my patience is poor. it took me several days (short bursts of time and ragequitting if I got bitten by the first one) to figure out the tank controls and looking back I really shouldn't have complained abt them lmfao bc they aren't that hard. I did not expect a game from '96 to scare me yet provide me with a thrilling experience. I love the fmvs, cheesy ahh voice acting. the music is amazing, certainly makes the jump scares really effective. most modern games from today can't replicate that. if you're new to playing older games, play as Jill as she has the easier path, apparently. do not worry if you keep dying that certainly happened to me a lot of times then I got used the right keys to aim and shoot/kill. I do think these kinds of old games are a relic in itself, they aren't easy to physically obtain so if get the chance to do so, get it!! (I got it during a sale)
best of 90s clearly
Coziest zombie game ever. A campy horror movie you can play.
