I am unsure of why the game has such mixed reviews, Ive gone through most of them but all of the problems listed, I have yet to run into. Not to say they didnt exist but I think theyve long been patched out of this tittle. Anyways, that being said, time for my impressions. It definetly has a bit of jank in movement through any partcore areas and in combat. But very minimal to nearly unoticeable. As for one of my biggest pros for this game, it is a huge living open world with some POIs currently in the areas Ive searched, and lots of challenging foes and lootables. Combat is actually one of my favorite points of this tittle. You have a wide range of choices, including 3 types of firearms, many different elements of magic and staves, swords, shields, blunt weapons, and polearms. So you can basically flush out whatever kind of character you want. Givin enough time you can master and utilize all of those weapon types. The building is well flushed out already with in depth crafting of equipment and building bases. You can create entire structures, camps, farms, and better crafting facilities. It is a system that keeps me coming for more and its been highly enjoyable. Additionally you have a second bag for building resources so they dont bog down your regular items bag, which is a nice touch. As for the main quest, it seems somewhat interesting, and there have been a few side quests so far but I feel that the game could use a few more quests and I wish NPCs were a lil more engaging. I think having voice actors to fill there dialog, and also a lil bit more ambient noise like background dialog at the garrisson would also help make everything feel a lil bit more alive. But I guess thats all I have to say about this tittle so far. I think its a great tittle which has givin me a lot of fun and I hope the devs keep at it to full release. Its already shaping up to be a real gem.
This game has immense potential but it isn't quite ready for prime time. As an early access game there is plenty to do early game but after almost 20 hours in I can say that there are some things that are extremely frustrating. If the devs begin to prioritize bug fixes then I can say this is a game I could easily spend tons of hours playing but right now it is not worth the price tag. Major game breaking bugs can cause immense frustration. Examples are hard won items in your inventory simply disappear never to be seen again. This includes late game weapons that require you to kill very difficult bosses in order to obtain the parts needed to craft. Horribly buggy quests that either do not complete properly or simply do not progress. Pros are that the game is relatively pretty. I really enjoy the world. The building, although I have barely scratched the surface, seems very robust for those builders among us that want to create. I love the resource gathering mechanic that automates many of the basic materials acquisition as well as the ability to automatically create more advanced materials without input. Cons- Devs seem slow to fix bugs and instead prioritize things that do not fix gameplay or add content. Spending a month on a single language adaptation for example while in the meantime there are game breaking bugs as I mentioned before. If the devs do not address those issues the game will languish and die because there are too many other options out there, that while maybe not as original, do not have frustrating issues. As a player I can forgive a lot especially in early access but losing progress and unique items is going to make me stop playing.
I like the idea, got tons of room to grow and it has potential. However, that's where the line is drawn. It has tons of graphical issues, shaders, rips, plants shining like its day time but its night. Dont get me wrong, i like grindy games but the amount of materials you need for simple construction is insane. Zero zone blocking effort, meaning u can be level 3 and the npc will give u a mission ranked for lvl 17, everything is just tossed together. You have a lvl 2 rat then 2 steps to the right, there is a lvl 14 bear that rips your face off. Not 100% sure, but im pretty sure, that when i died it caused an error in my save which ment i needed to restart. so imagine if you will. you sink 20-30 plus hrs into a town,house,city... w/e your doing and u simply die and respawn to your game save being corrupted. i experienced this not even 2 hrs into the game. I know its early access and that is no excuse. idk what tf steam is doing allowing games that arent even polished enough for beta testing to be opened to early access. waaay more often than not i never see these early access game leave EA.. i think there was only a handful. but im officially done with Early access games. its amazing the amount of time this game was on my wishlist, youd think just that time alone alot of these issues couldve been hammered out but i guess not and yah im salty af, i really really wanted to love this game and it pisses me off.
NOT ABANDONED -- Getting updates, 2 in the month of February so far.
Potential, maybe.. I liked the idea of an open world rpg with spellcrafting, but it lacks quality, it lacks polish, and it doesn't feel good. UI and controls don't feel great, and for how the graphics look, it runs worse than expected. Would be interested to see it make a comeback after overhauling and improving from the current state, but I don't have a lot of faith in that atm. Such is the way of early access games by lesser known dev teams.
Don't Sleep on This One — Give It a Chance Look, I'll be honest — Ars Notoria has its rough edges. As an Early Access title, you're going to run into some bugs, a few clunky systems, and moments where things don't quite feel polished. But if you write this game off because of that, you're genuinely missing out. Once it clicks, it really clicks. The magic system alone is worth the price of admission — six schools of magic that you can actually mix and combine to craft your own spells and imbue your gear? That's not something you see in every survival crafting game. It adds a layer of depth and creativity that keeps the gameplay feeling fresh. The open world is packed with things to do — diverse biomes, dungeons, ancient ruins, and some genuinely epic boss fights. Throw in faction alignment with branching questlines, base building with automation, and the ability to tame creatures or summon arcane companions, and there's a surprising amount of content here for where the game currently stands. The co-op experience with friends is also a blast. Exploring, building your settlement together, and tackling dungeons as a squad with different roles and fighting styles makes this feel like more than just another survival clone. Yes, it needs more polish. Yes, the devs still have work to do. But the foundation is genuinely solid and the vision is ambitious. XRON Software seems committed to the game, and the potential here is real. For $19.99, you're getting a game with a unique identity that rewards patience. If you're a fan of open-world survival crafting with a heavy magic focus, stop hesitating and give it a shot. You might be surprised. Recommended.
Pretty sure the game has been abandoned, not a single update in nearly 3 months, and no communication from the dev team.
This game is not polished but hey folks it is in early release. With that this is a great game lots of areas to cover. Great character leveling up with skills. This game definitely deserves a labor of love reward if the devs can keep up the good work.
It's a different kind of fun for the type of game it is. Thankfully it's still being worked on because it has great potential but differently needs some refinement and expansion. It doesn't take long at the current state to do about all there is to do, currently. The magic is a bit overload as to how it's setup and from what I used of it, very under powered. They gun system in it has a unique system that allows for some fun play and it feels well balanced for the most part. The rifle is a bit under powered.
The secrets of the world are done pretty good and the map, while small, feels decent in exploring. The faction that you are thrown into (Villagers), while it's not really my thing, what you can do with at current, is actually done well. In the start of the game, you have quest for basic training and in that you have a gauntlet you must complete to progress. While it's simple and easy enough to do, there is no advantage to completing it, other than being able to continue the story. Base building is very basic and needs a lot more pieces to be viable. There is no real reason to build a base atm, and the rain comes inside and you being wet for too long can lead to some undesirable side affects.
Yes, I would recommend this game and I am optimistic that will be developed into a great game, instead of average.
