About
You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you will need to find food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours which threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before something makes a meal of you!
Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires clever decision-making, both to catch your own prey and to avoid the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!

This has to be the best worst game I've ever played. My very first run, I stopped playing after 18 mins cause nothing clicked. Controls felt too slow/unresponsive, enemies were ♥♥♥♥♥, "weapons" barely worked as kill tools and more of a distraction/movement option which was interesting for a bit, and the map is pretty much useless. Then I came back to the game after a long break, nothing changed but I pushed on... only to fully uninstall it after shortly getting lost in the second last area of the game???????? Why can a new player just stumble into a hellhole which is also nearly impossible to get out of?
I tried going back out the drainage system but could never get enough spears to spawn to get me out. And the water pipe network route was even worse cause I seemingly never had enough air. Probably a skissue, but I was still an infant of a player. It's like being thrown into the Farewell chapter of Celeste after beating chapter 2.
I re-installed the same day because I was too pissed to let it go. Restarted with the "easy-mode"
monk
cat and just
followed the orange worm
as much as I could. Very glad I gave it a third shot because the environments, artstyle, atmosphere, ambience is the best I've seen from any game. But, if I were to recommend this game solely because of aesthetics and the potential to be great, I would be disingenuous. By Steam's records, <25% of players got the simplest achievement/milestone and <10% of players who tried this game actually beat it. I don't know how this game can get so many positive reviews recommending it when it seems like barely anyone got to see what the game actually has to offer. Personally, I wouldn't subject anyone I know to buy this and pray they have the courage to deal with whatever BS the game throws at them. This seems to be for a hyper-specific audience (all the more power to that ig). For the majority I wouldn't say this is worth your efforts. As strange as it may seem, I'm pretty satisfied with my full playthrough.
