I really liked the first Railway Empire (RE1) and there are aspects of RE2 that are good but not better then the original. RE2 did, outside of the campaign. allowed me to get right into controlling the signalling of each track. Even the automated signalling in RE1 was pretty good. TL;DR: Stay away from RE2 until the automatic signalling issue has a proven and texted as fixed as it ruins the Campaign mode the further the player gets into it. RE2 is a sad followup to RE1 for the following reasons: 1) The automated signalling / parthing of RE2 is woeful, even after the "fix" patch. I can have 4 lines between two cities and the auto signalling will only use one rail line while the three others will have hours of ZERO usage to the exact same city, all laid perfectly, side-by-side. This is an incredibly poor experience of the game and its biggest issue with gameplay. It would be impossible for the key people around this game not to know this is an issue and how it impacts the game the more someone gets into it. 2) Gridiron - why this is a manual process in RE2 is beyond me. It seems redundant to have to place it after more than one track placed. The game warns it will have negative impacts without a Gridiron in place. RE2 feels as thought I have lost some manual control of the parthing/signalling, more so in the campaign where it locks out manual signalling. In the later parts of the campaign, the auto signalling becomes an huge game play obstacle. RE2 in this regard feels like it took a huge step backwards. 3) Lack of variety - it feels like every city wants only Wheat or Meat in the campaign. It lacks variety of trying to supply basic materials to different cities. There is no obvious evolution in the game where variety of resources needs to me much more diverse. 4) The game has very very poor "Error or warning" descriptions. One of the criteria's for the 2nd campaign is the need to move "Dec, 1850 Deliver 4 loads of Vegetables to York" - this can't be done with out growing the population of York but nowhere in the campaign is this noted. More so, across the game, where trying to ship items to a location without an industry to receive the, say, steel, RE2 is not clear in the waning that the goods are not required at that stop. The message RE2 throws up when trying to confirm the route, is more than confusing to the player. Overall, as it is today, Railway Empire 2 is not worth its normal release price of $80 Australian Dollars. I picked it up cheap for a 1/3 of that price and still feel I overpaid. At $20.00 with its issues and lack of any real advancement from RE1, this is a $20.00 game to make it feel like a good deal in its current state.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I bought the game at release because I really enjoyed the first one. But this feels almost identical to the old game, just with a few minor changes. (More tracks on bridges are the biggest sale point) I’ve now been waiting two years for the return of “ghost trains.” In the first game, because of the flawed signaling system, you could enable ghost trains when starting a game. With that option on, trains would simply pass through each other — very practical, though admittedly unrealistic. But the key point is that it was entirely the player’s choice. That feature is gone, and I’ve been asking for its return ever since, but with no luck. For that reason alone, I’d honestly recommend saving your money and just buying the first game. I’ve put 1,800 hours into it and completed every mission. As soon as ghost trains are reintroduced, I’ll happily leave a positive review for this one. But until then, not everyone enjoys being forced to play in a single, restricted way.
It's alright and thats about it. feels unfinished and made with no love or passion
Pretty broken and un-optimized game, I do like the gameplay loop up to a point but it's a mess after a certain point. Devs seems to be only interested in dumping out DLCs to make money nowadays...
Game has too many game breaking bugs that haven't been fixed since launch while they pump out DLC. It's a shame, the game would be great if it worked.
I'm giving this game a negative review but only just. Overall, it is quite fun but after awhile its flaws are more apparent and more frustrating. Pros: - Fun to operate the railway, see the trains run and to be able to ride along with the trains. - Some of the music is good - Routing through station platforms seems better than Railway Empire 1 - Graphics look nice - The city growth system does provide a challenge of escalating difficulty. - Track laying is probably the most advanced I've seen in a rail building game, once you master how to create intermediate building points to reduce tunnels etc it works well. Cons - The gridiron tracks take up too much space leading to a station. - Lack of any feel of company shares, stock etc. What finance there is seems bolted on and a largely superfluous mechanic. - Everything feels American even on maps that aren't America - The warehouse mechanic is fiddly and it is hard to work out where things have got backed up in one of your warehouses. - Game almost forces you to have separate passenger and goods lines + stations when things gets busy. The rail network you build doesn't feel like a real railway. - Water, coal, oil etc tied to supply towers and cannot be replenished at stations which causes bottlenecks. - I find the almost cartoon characters that pop up in missions annoying - Crazy limiting to only have two upgrades per station - Very hard to manage a large network - Not allowing tracks near cities without a station is very limiting and annoying - Tech tree feels very repetitive, lots of similar bonuses. - Stations with warehouses favour own stockpile too much over putting the same goods in warehouse for city further on with much less of that item I could probably go on but overall the game is fiddly. Feels too simple in some areas and overly complex in others without that complexity adding fun to compensate for the effort needed. A lot of the mechanics aren't very intuitive and take several youtube videos or guides to fully learn.
I really wanted to like this game despite it's quirks but if you have a cool idea, the game actively works against you. Want to merge an 8 track line with another 8 track line? Some times you can but other times, it will delete part of the original line or it will let you do 7 but not the 8th or it will instantly close the game with no warning or you will get to 3 or 4 and it will tell you the line is too close to another line. If you are a masochist, you will love this sadistic game.
The franchise continues to slip away. The infinite DLC squeeze from Devs is sad. The core game has a few elements that are entertaining but the over all LOOP and replay ability is straight up snooze fest. With the way this franchise is going it wont be long until this is an auto playing phone app (and that would be better than the current state of things). I do dream of a day when Humans go back to caring about other Humans instead of treating each other as a potential 'pay day' or 'get out the way'
В плане экономики, атмосферы итд это жалкая тень оригинала +25-ти летней давности имя которому Railroad Tycoon 2.... и Transport Tycoon.
