Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing.

as of 7/8/2025 the game was updated. Once doing some digging into the Discord. I found out it is only one man working on this game. Not even being paid for the work as the funds for purchases go into the games upkeep. This whole revelation has made me enjoy this game ten folds. reminds me of the story of the man who worked on the mountain carving of crazy horse. truly remarkable. Tabbing out crashes my whole game. I can really only play with Chinese people. I still recommend it (on sale). This is the scariest zombie game I have ever played. Reminds me of my fear i used to have with zombies in my youth. Headshots are so satisfying. This games atmosphere engulfs you. If you want best survival zombie game play "Survive the Nights". If you want the best story zombie game play, "Telltale's the walking dead". If you want to just kill zombies and have fun play, "Deadrising". If you want to ♥♥♥♥ your pants crying in the corner as a few undead corpses rip your face off, play "Contagion".
ok so I love this game in it's bones. It's atmospheric, you have to place your shots, it's old school, it's a slow burn with bursts of hoards here and there... but I cant recommend for one reason: The Inventory system. 4 slots. ok, I can work with 4 slots for weapons and throwables and meds and such. but when one level has maybe 5 or 6 "key" items that ALSO take up inventory and you have to keep on you? Bruh. Solo play is not fun at all. you just have to backtrack constantly it's awful. One single fix, make key items not take inventory or have a seperate inventory and BOOM it's a great game. as is, it's tedious in the first degree. Even playing co-op your inventory is severely limited by this.
After all this time, I figured I should give this game a review. I don't intend to make it very long, so I'll get to the point. The Pros - Gunplay The guns, albeit not hyperrealistic, they do feel nice. Some are better, some are worse than others, but they all sound, look, and handled distinctly different when used (what the ♥♥♥♥ is that SCAR sound tho). Anything that doesn't have head protection, dies from a single headshot, regardless if you're shooting a pistol, a rifle, or a shotgun. So that's nice. - Replayabaility There are a lot of maps and modes, with different objectives and way of playing. You can easily get a few dozen hours of fun out of this game. There are also some modded maps on the workshop, mostly ports from No More Room in Hell and Left 4 Dead. - Characters You have a large selection of survivors to choose from. What do they do? Absolutely nothing. They just look and sound distinct. But it makes easier to find each other and at least you don't get to listen to the same guy wheezing all the time. Newer characters weren't voiced by professional voice actors, and it shows. So be ready for that. - Teamwork focus This can be a con too. The game strongly encourages you to work together with others. Namely with the limited (4 items) inventory slots. You need to talk to others to find out what was checked when looking for a quest item or ask others for ammo for the gun you picked up, but don't have ammo for. In turn, you can give them the ammo you have no use for. However, the limited inventory makes the game nigh impossible to play alone on higher difficulties. The cons - Servers Oh boy... Now, I can't see into the internal workings of the game, or the development. But ever since I first started playing this game, it had server issues. Hits not registering, lagging despite a stable internet connection. Then the game got new providers. Now the servers just crash every now and then. No explanation. The connection is gone and you get kicked right back into the menu. This problem has been present for years mind you. - The phone It's a mixed bag. You want to know what you're supposed to be doing? Check your phone. Every ping means you have a new message, which explains what you're supposed to be doing. Sounds cool, right? Except it rarely narrows down where to look for the item, or maybe you have to backtrack in some cases. You do get a counter, but that's only for locations, and even then, not every time, and doesn't account for different levels. You can get used to it, but it's not easy. - Teammates What teammates? The game is essentially dead. It has been steadily losing players over the years and every single opportunity to regain them failed *MISERABLY* . I will get back to this later. But in the rare case of seeing others, it's anyone's game: you either get the best teammates ever, or you get some sad sack of ♥♥♥♥, who is seeking an intimate relationship with your female family members. There is no inbetween. By the way, those handful of people who do play on public servers, are more often than not on Chinese ones. So if you're not in Asia, you will hardly have an easy time. - The updates Remember when I said the game failed every chance to attract people the last few years? I mean it. Every time an update dropped the past couple of years, people came by to see "Hey, what's this? Oh, we got a new campaign? AND a gun too? Let's check it out!" What they didn't expect is just how many things *broke*. Things like getting stuck on literally any prop, glitched zombies, quest items not spawning. So they, obviously left. And each time this happened, fewer and fewer came back. The game, as of writing this review, is free of serious bugs, but do be prepared to see something broken in case a new update pops up. The game isn't abandoned to my knowledge, so it can happen. Either way, I can hardly imagine seeing more people around. - Optimalization It's a small thing, but I have to mention this: under ABSOLUTELY no condition play the game with maximum graphics settings. It causes crashes between maps during rendering, even on high-end rigs. Tune it down to high, it should work fine. Final thoughts Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. Most of them go something along the lines of "Hey I used to play this game something X years ago, I remember it being fun, good game!" All in all, it's not a bad game. The core gameplay is good. For me, it sits perfectly between No More Room in Hell, which is much more slower paced, and Left 4 Dead, which is a lot faster. I'm saying what you can *currently* expect from it. I don't hate this game, I used to play it a lot up until recent months. Made quite a few friends too. But now... it's the same as the zombies in it. Not quite dead. Not quite alive. Just quietly shambling along. I'm just no longer delusional enough to expect it's current problems will be fixed. The constant server crashes and the lack of players are in themselves enough for me to finally give up on this game. If you do plan on picking up the game, make sure to: - one: get it on sale - two: have some friends, preferably at least two. But to quote one of the characters: "The more the merrier".
Contagion – атмосферная по тематике зомби-апокалипсиса с сумрачным оформлением. Слишком похожа на No More Room in Hell. Если вам нравятся такого рода, обязательно приобретите её в свою коллекцию. Monochrome, Inc по сей день выпускают патчи. Почёт и уважение творцам данного произведения. Крохотный онлайн, но есть с кем побегать.
Stay away from this garbage A$$ game, don't buy it and most of all, DO NOT donate money to these people. The last major update broke a lot of things: game crashes, freezes, stutters, new achievements are bugged and also they screwed up some old ones. Hell, even the main menu and settings are broken. Also, a "tester" commented on forums that he didn't test everything. Oh really? Then you shouldn't work there, better go and plant trees in the woods or something... I believe this has something to do with the management at Monochrome and believe me, these guys really do have the bad live service mentality ("Release it now, fix things later..."). This happened for years... the game was good at launch, it died somewhere at the end of 2014, then they stopped releasing updates. This until 2019-2020 when they decided to resuscitate this "zombie" and of course, ended up breaking it. They say that they're "lacking of funding and resources" and yet they want to do Contagion 2, a new Zombie Panic! and more games. Don't worry, the "Support us on Patreon" and "Buy our Supporter DLC" ads are present in the main menu. If you really want money that bad, how about you stop screwing over your remaining playerbase and release a good product? Don't support this behaviour and most of all, don't do their work (reporting bugs, glitches etc.) because you get nothing in return. Let them fix their s h i t...
I wish that at this point this game would become F2P because it has been difficult to find active servers to play in, i download this game regularly hoping that more people would be playing it but i have not had much luck, at best 5-6 people divided between 2-3 servers from what i have seen and those always have 200-300 ping which makes it awful to play and i end up uninstalling the game again. The game itself is very fun with other people but it sucks to play it alone.
I've had this game for years. I remember trying it new, and thinking, oh - looks neat! Fast forward to 2024, and my friend and I are looking to clear some backlog. We start a game up, and begin to figure out the mechanics. A few other join who know what they're doing, and we have some fun. It's not bad! Cool enough game, but other zombie survivals made sense overshadow this. The next day, I find a permanent ban from the developer. I wasn't intending to play it again anyway. Since it's an online only game, that makes it a ... zombie game ... in my account. Meta!
nah they fkd ts up with that new update a few months ago. anyone who bought ts and is wondering why the trailer is completely different than the game: go to your betas tab for the game and switch to "old-engine", you'll have a copy of the game that has split screen, mods work, controller support works, u.i isnt broken etc.
