Reviews
Imagine a rogue-like being mixed with a clicker incremental game, but the choices actually matter. There is no "right path" to take and coming up with different strategies becomes very addicting. It really is as simple as beating some rats in a forest or as complex as breaking the economy by exploiting the town investors, you choose how you do it
Honestly, this is a really cool experience that gave same feelings when first discovering Stardew Valley. Takes a little bit of figuring things out at first but each step unlocks something new and suddenly things start clicking. Quintillion quest is surprisingly content heavy and just keeps expanding while you play. Every phase introduces a bunch of new options and it feels like there are dozens of things unlocking all the time. When you think you have got it figured out the game adds another layer and keeps it interesting. Restarting feels rewarding because of the upgrades you unlock, which make the next run smoother and let you progress faster and gives that “okay, one more try” feeling. I also liked that even though everything keeps scaling up with bigger and bigger numbers the most important resource in the game ( social energy ) never increases. That makes you think carefully about how to use it instead of just spamming every option.
I have been following this game from the early access and it has been impressive to see the game grow both in terms of mechanics but also in the creative side. I appreciate the clever writing of characters dialog, unified artistic style with smooth animations. Sounds also help this game a lot. Perhaps a bit tricky to get the hang of it in the beginning, for me I had to start over many times to understand how to properly collect coins to pay the rent, but it is one of the charms of the game - it's a proper challenge and you keep coming back to it.
It's quite addicting, after having completed the game with everything maxed out for the final day twice, I think I'm finally done. What I enjoyed: 1. Social Energy is what makes this work. You really have to choose during day 1-25 about what you're doing. After getting CHA up, it begins to matter less, but you're still limited by it and it guides you to make a decision. A bonus mention would be the skill slots that forces you to focus as well. 2. There's something really dumb and great about incrementally increasing numbers, this is peak monkey brain at its best. 3. The style is so simple and clean, it's a breeze to get by. All the bugs I reported got fixed or are in the process of getting fixed. None of them were gamebreaking for me. I even asked silly questions and got the creator to post some guides for the start that helped me out. For honesty, I should bring out some cases that I didn't like too much. 1. The Realize skill is a bit of a slog to get past, even if you have the skill and potion to pump up Focus, it was really slow between lvl30-40 where you couldn't get enough resources to move quickly and not have to wait until the entire FC bar is filled up to open the next tile. Moving back a level just meant you're getting resources much slower, so wasn't the solution either. Maybe the material balancing there could be better. 2. Early game really decides all. If you do not have everything prepared for Day20, you will lose the game there. With the STR and INT playthroughs, it ended up being luck that gave me the final edge needed. After that it became much easier, though INT path does seem slightly harder. 3. Mining licenses, it seems like the game will be essentially impossible of you only focus on talking with the miner to get them, but in the end the skill to create your own licenses is useless by Day 30-35 and you're done with the mine. Maybe a Quest to forget a skill would help with this. Overall clearly I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll do another playthrough to get the rest of the achievements, you'd really need a focused playthrough for it, though the 10 starting achievements really helps a lot with focusing on a specific branch.
Prepare for a challenge with a vast array of choices. You can lose the game rather quickly, but it is great fun to unlock new paths and ways to play.
Started out as confusing, but became clearer the more I played. 6 hours went by in a flash.
