It's a functional precision platformer, it's just... not fun at all. You don't feel cool doing anything because the levels are not designed with a particular way to do things, there's a bazillion different ways to solve it. The parts that do challenge you are not challenging for the right reasons, either because the camera is glitched out scrolling left, because there's apparently a ceiling that shouldn't be there, timing is weird... so many things. I don't know how to describe it, I just felt angry and unfulfilled playing this game. It might be fun if it's the only one of its genre, but there are so many better precision platformers than this. There's also a bunch of nightmarish UX issues. The platforms are distinguished by texture as to what they do, which is a really bad way to do things. I'm sure there's better ways to distinguish a spring platform from a disappearing platform than this, c'mon. Not to mention portals and switches look the exact same. The story is absolute garbage too, I won't spoil it but it's all over the place and doesn't make any sense and the game would be better if it did away with it entirely. I guess everything about the game in a word feels lazy. Like the minimum effort was put into it, just to get a game out there. And I don't even know what badly-designed horrors are lurking in the extra levels.

This is one of the most mixed opinion i had in a long time. I can say that i enjoyed my time in the normal mode, despite all its flaw. And then there was the black edition, witch expanded on its flaw. First off, the level aren't well designed, most of the time you'll never know what is the intended path, there are some speedrun path, some easier path, some harder path that aren't even faster, its really all over the place. Everything that kill you is the same color as the platform, which can be really hard to discern when going fast in the black edition. I don't remember if its only in the dark edition but most cycle start at the wrong place and force you to wait 2-3 sec before you can progress in the level. Plus you have no idea where the platform that disappear and reappear will be since there is no background indication (there used to be one based on the dev video on youtube) Some mechanics aren't properly shown and you basically have to do trial and error instead of being put in an easy way to learn. You can pass through some special platform from below while on some other you bonk as an example. The special platform and cube look really similar, i often got confused between a portal and the switch, or failling platform and bounce pad, in a fast paced game, you should be able to discern this in a glance. And finally the collectable that are almost at random place with often no challenge to get them. I put a lots of emphasis on these flaw because the creator has a channel named lets talk about game design and the first thing you read when scrolling down the store page is ""reIterate() [...]is a lesson in game design" And then you add the little flaw, only 3 option for volume, with the menu not saving and asking you each time about it, no level selection for the black edition although it does exist in the normal edition, the collectable reappearing in black edition although collecting them change nothing. The game asking you to play with a d-pad while i beat both mode in a total 2h with joystick (more playtime to help me write the review) No rebinding on controller. and it doesnt show you can skip cutscene with x (xbox controller) But like i said, at the end of the day, i did like the game, i'm a sucker for hard platformer which are rare, its just that there is so much wrong with it it could have easily been 3 time better than what it is
Played for 4-5h as Beta Tester. Thank god for slow mode. Black Country Games provides us with another entry in the “throw your damn controller at the monitor” platformer. The worst part (and by that I mean best part) about it is that, like Quickley Quackley before it, reIterate() provides a narrative that keeps you going through its challenging levels to find out more about the world and its characters. Quite the achievement considering the story is told via cryptic one-sided dialogues and floating texts in the background. But you know what? It works. Even though I had a hard time doing it, I made sure to collect every “devlog” just because I wanted to learn more. reIterate() sells itself as “the purest 2D platformer” and I’ve gotta say it surely succeeds at that. No gimmicks or thrills here, just tight classic platforming with wall jump and double jump. It felt kinda like playing a less slippery Super Meat Boy. Really liked the fast fall, felt snappy and forced me to use the wall slide and double jump to slow myself down. My only nitpick on the movement would be that often in particularly tight spots, my double jump would either trigger too early after what I intended to be a single jump, or not trigger at all as I’m falling rapidly to my death. The levels are well thought out, really challenging the player to use their move-set to the best of their ability. Contrary to other games I played in the same genre (thinking here about Celeste, SMB and Quackley mainly) the optimal route didn’t appear clear to me from the get go. This was at times frustrating, but it did give an almost puzzle-like approach to solving them. Which would be fine if it wasn’t SO DAMN HARD. Luckily, the blessed slow mode allowed me to take a break, de-rage, approach the level from that puzzle-solving angle and figure out the route that would work best for me, before then trying to execute it at full speed. Great stuff. All in all, this was a fun and challenging experience with some great design decisions.

This game was very fun! Great to play if you love a challenging precision platformer! I only had a few gripes with a few levels within the last 10 (minor spoilers): - The player is quite slippery and accelerates fast. It works very well for most of the game, however, a few later levels require you to have more precision and it the slippery movement does make that extremely unforgiving. (you can slow time, however.) - There were a few times where the player is required to learn a new way that a mechanic can be used in a time sensitive, very dangerous setting. And these tended to be at the end of a level, requiring the player to redo the entire level just for a chance to learn what they are supposed to do. Other than those 2-4 levels, It's a great play! Highly Recommend.
very fun. tight controls. Pretty short but when your done you get a harder mode which well made.story mysterious, but still intriguing. good simple art. 10/10 would recommend.
Super fun platformer and absolutely flawless on the steam deck so far! It's awesome to just just jump in and out of if you only have a few minutes to game here and there during a busy day. I found the dev on youtube and was intrigued. This dev is solo and I think it is a cool game for his first release!
I love it. It feels addictive like sugar Only problem I found is sometimes the character don’t jump correctly
legit cant stop walking in circles 5/5 star would eat with cheese tho
this is a review XD and I wait for the sequel (with an editor and a world leaderboard ;)
