I have been playing this game for years. It is a great throwback to the Sierra Quest for Glory games. The protagonist, Roehm, is funny and entertaining, but he's a strong character too. The story is pretty good, with interesting characters, and great character development. I also love the comedy thrown into the plot and story - it makes the game even more charming. The artwork and spritework are beautiful, the music is great, and the voice acting is great too. The combat could have been a bit better (I prefer how Heroine's Quest and QFG2 VGA handled it) but it was pretty easy to use, I will give it that. Whether you decide to be a Rogue, Brigand or Sorceror, you will enjoy this game - give it a try! Looking forward the sequel! (Whenever it is released)
If you like point and click adventure games you must play this game. It's a modern classic! A+ If there were a checklist of things that I love in a video game this game has almost all of them. I say "almost all" because some of the things I like are pretty odd. For example: I like when I find vitriol (the chemical substance) in video games.
Of all the Quest for Glory inspired games this is the best one IMO. I enjoyed the story, the crass humor and even the combat. I really hope that we get that part II eventually!
"Quest for Infamy" is an older console/handheld (Nintendo Switch) game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, it's definitely not the kind of thing anyone would consider to be a native PC game in 2024. "Quest for Infamy" is a construction kit game. The "developer" used the mediocre Adventure Game Studio video game construction kit, filling out input forms/using premade level design tools. While they did provide some of their own assets, these aren't exactly AAA quality game assets (it's pixelcrap)... when developers aren't able to use industry level game engines, often they're unable to do the other parts of game development well, either. A strong argument can be made that construction kits like Adventure Game Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Infamous Quests has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. The developer filled out/mucked around with Adventure Game Studio and added some comedy themed fantasy/adventure stuff, think Kings Quest but even less funny, with worse writing, worse puzzles and less appeal, but instead of being released when adventure games were popular, it was released in 2014 as a console game. That's what they want your money for. No wonder the vast majority of gamers turned a blind eye to it. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances and consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld/console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power consoles forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, Adventure Game Studio. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. "Quest for Infamy" has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for giving mercy to one of the earlier NPCs you interact with, trivial to achieve, but less than 10 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 10 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Quest for Infamy" has the greedy, cash grab price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Doom Eternal", "Final Fantasy XIV Online" or "Mirror's Edge". No pixelcrap is worth $10. If developers want to get paid the same kind of money as real game developers who know how to do graphics properly, they need to learn how to do graphics properly, and not rely on crutches and construction kits instead of real, genuine, professional game development.
An ABSOLUTE MUST PLAY for any Quest for Glory lovers out there. Like, these people spilled QFG love all OVER this game. I also just listened to a podcast with the founder of the studio, and heartbreakingly, this game COST HIM MONEY to make. Like - he's in the negative. Which really stinks. So please do yourself AND him a favor and buy it. Its great.
Has some pacing issues - The game takes place over 3 Acts. Act 1 will easily take between 7-8 hours to complete while Acts 2 and 3 take no more than 1-2 hours. Writing can be amateurish at times but that all depends on your sense of humor. That said, the retro graphics are very well-done and the puzzles are hard but not moon logic hard. A solid point-n-click adventure in the same vein as Quest for Glory.
I enjoyed this very much. I played it a couple of times through. Perhaps in a few years, I will play it again.
This game is way better than I expected it to be. Challenging puzzles. Interesting story. Witty dialogue. References to games I love. Excellent.
Recomiendo 100%
