Awesome classic FPS. Very fun on nightmare difficulty...
Happy birthday to a really fun and not often talked about game.
It’s clear that this game set the stage for every other first person shooter to come after it and the creators of Doom didn’t hold back in continuing to be pioneers with this one, and for 1996, even to this day I’m amazed by how well this game looks, plays and runs. I never got to play it back in the days but always heard good things about it, and finally completing it 30 years later, it doesn’t feel like a game that is 30 years old, neither does it look like it is, and it just shows how ahead of time iD pushed what the hardware could do at the time to leave us with this masterpiece, it deserves to sit in a museum lol. Not a very long game to play through, but very enjoyable, and doesn’t require you to constantly play to pick up where you left off and still know what you are doing, and that’s the beauty with such games. Sometimes you just want to shoot up some monsters and explore a nice linear area without being overwhelmed by huge open worlds and a huge list of stats and items and nothing does it better than Quake. A masterpiece and pioneer in FPS, really what started the whole 3D FPS genre, and if you love the genre you definitely don’t want to miss this one, don’t sleep on it like I did!! Solid 9/10 overall.
Utterly legend among all classic games i have ever played, trully game isn't about visuality and deep plot, these both typically absent in particular games, but shooting and gameplay are keeping on highest level especially in fighings, that's an incredible upside the Quake game lines have unlike Doom's personally,i don't wanna minimizing significance to Doom fans, when to me Quake in a numerous aspects is more QUICKER.
Great game. It's a pity they don't make them like this anymore. Over 30 year old engine, still beats most of what comes out today.
first game i got 100% achievements on since dark souls 1 and i could still play more, quack is fun
This is the legendary FPS game. Now with both expansion packs, two new expansions plus extra content. How can I not recommend it? I also recommend Arcane Dimensions for a fun experience!
Second best game of all time.
Quake needs no praise, but I can't help but giving it. Quake is one of my most favourite games ever made, and I regularly replay it to this day. Never I grew tired of it or found its gameplay ageing. Quake is the tribute to what games industry is capabale of when developers aim to work at 110%. with as little input as possible (4 direction keys, crouch, jump, shoot) the player is offered movement so responsive and smooth that many mdern games can only dream of. From careful shooting from behind the corner to lightning fast sprints aided by rocket jumping, the players is never limited in the choice of movement. And the game's levels only facilitate this freedom. I would call the level design in Quake as "effortless" as it naturally drives the players to be as fast and as aggressive as they can be, and to be pushing themselves on each subsequent run while increasing the game's difficulty. No forced jump puzzles. sealed arenas with waves of enemies, no special movement abilities - only four direction keys, jump and the level itself. Furthermore, Quake does not force the player's choice of weapons. There are four S-tier weapons - super shotgun, super nailgun, rocket and thunderbolt, but how and when to use them solely depends on the player. There is no rock/paper/scissors approach so heavily imposed by Doom Eternal. Nor there is mandatory finishing mechanics that would replenish ammo and armor. That handholding was designed to force the player's aggression, while the OG Quake needed none - it simply allowed the player to be aggreassive and provided the levels and tools to do so. The art disign of the levels is also something rarely seen since Quake. Gothic architecture mixed with sci-fi bases, covered in gritty colors supported by brilliant ambient by Trent Reznor. As much as modern games try, they can not convey the same atmosphere as Quake did in 1996. Quake is among the FPS milestones such as Half-Life and Halo, a game many developers will try to emulate and ultimately fail to do so. Quake demanded everything from its developers, and as Sandy Petersen staded on Quake's 30th anniversary, "Quake ruined id software". Funnily enough, had John Romero stayed at id after finishing Quake he might have never helped the creation of the other timeless masterpiece - Deus Ex. So Quake's influence spans well beyond FPS genre. This remastered version by Nightdive runs perfectly on any PC, Laptop or handheld. Play it. Many people forgot when they last played Quake and stick to the memories of software rendered 800x600 picture. Replay Quake on modern screens in perfect 60 or 120 or 240 fps and feel this game as acute as ever. The good ol' Quake can confidently give a head start to many modern FPS games we now consider "a standard"
