It’s clear that this game set the stage for every other first person shooter to come after it and the creators of Doom didn’t hold back in continuing to be pioneers with this one, and for 1996, even to this day I’m amazed by how well this game looks, plays and runs. I never got to play it back in the days but always heard good things about it, and finally completing it 30 years later, it doesn’t feel like a game that is 30 years old, neither does it look like it is, and it just shows how ahead of time iD pushed what the hardware could do at the time to leave us with this masterpiece, it deserves to sit in a museum lol. Not a very long game to play through, but very enjoyable, and doesn’t require you to constantly play to pick up where you left off and still know what you are doing, and that’s the beauty with such games. Sometimes you just want to shoot up some monsters and explore a nice linear area without being overwhelmed by huge open worlds and a huge list of stats and items and nothing does it better than Quake. A masterpiece and pioneer in FPS, really what started the whole 3D FPS genre, and if you love the genre you definitely don’t want to miss this one, don’t sleep on it like I did!! Solid 9/10 overall.
Great game. It's a pity they don't make them like this anymore. Over 30 year old engine, still beats most of what comes out today.

Mon tout premier jeu (sans compter Adibou) et un des fps qui a définit le genre. Premier à être entièrement en 3D, et aujourd'hui remis au goût du jour avec des améliorations visuelles -mais pas trop, afin de garder le charme de l'époque- et fonctionnelles : possibilité de faire le jeu et ses extensions en coopération, ou de se la mettre en multijoueur. Comble du bonheur, cette grosse "mise à jour" à été offerte à tous les possesseurs du jeu original, et à cheval offert, on ne regarde pas les dents !

Fantastic modernization, Dimension of the Machine is the best Quake has ever been.
