Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Note: Valve have currently managed to break review parsing for Steam reviews, so paragraph/carriage returns/breaks aren't working. This review may have incorrect formatting, for which I apologise.

Purgatory II is a surprise for me, wading through the deep oceans of garbage asset flips, 2D retro pixel platformers and other shovelware that infests Steam thanks to Steam Direct. It's a real sincerely made game that is trying very hard to be a ripoff of Heroes of Might and Magic, and if you're young and don't remember the olden days, HOMM is a turn based tactical combat game where you get a bunch of fantasy creatures and beat up a variety of enemies, with a strategy mode that has you moving around the world map with your heroes and armies, capturing mines and other resources to increase your wealth and allow you to build your army to a huge extent.

Now, making this kind of game is applaudable because it's the kind of thing that PC gaming started from, and it's a compelling genre that hasn't had good service from developers. Unfortunately, Purgatory II isn't helping. See, this seems like a cut down version of a HOMM game, with less units, no flavour, and no grand strategy/world map element. You just click through menus to get to the fights. And the fights aren't interesting, they're grind centric. In fact, this feels more like an idler/incrementer in terms of your progression than a proper TBS fantasy game.

It doesn't help that the technical implementation is also garbage, this is put together worse than the newer HOMM games... and this came out in 2018!!! Basic UI stuff is done wrong... the combat maps are an incomprehensible mess, the units are 3 times bigger than the hexes, so good luck clicking on anything. And there's no manual or detail on what any of the monsters abilities are, so good luck building an army through guesswork. Game design, I think they tried to do it here, but failed dismally. The rest of the implementation is on par, too.

A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.

The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.

Purgatory II is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.

Música5Cumplidora: acompaña, no lidera.

Purgatory II, developed by New Reality Games and Eduard Mirica and published by New Reality Games, is a dark fantasy turn-based strategy title that builds upon the foundation of its predecessor while attempting to deepen both its tactical systems and narrative ambition. Set in a grim afterlife where betrayal and vengeance define the protagonist’s journey, the game places players in command of infernal legions as they wage calculated battles across hex-based maps in pursuit of redemption and revenge. It is a project that clearly strives for depth and atmosphere, even if its execution occasionally reveals the limitations of its indie origins. The story centers on General Xzus, a once-powerful warrior betrayed and cast into a purgatorial realm. Awakening among demonic forces, he resolves to assemble an army and fight his way back to the mortal world to exact revenge on those who wronged him. The narrative unfolds through text-heavy sequences and mission-based progression, with lore revealed gradually as players unlock new encounters. While the writing provides context and thematic consistency, its delivery is largely static, relying on dialogue boxes and journal-style exposition rather than cinematic presentation. Players who appreciate dark fantasy lore may find the premise compelling, but those seeking dynamic storytelling may consider it subdued. Gameplay revolves around hex-grid tactical combat where positioning, unit synergy, and resource management are paramount. Each battle requires careful deployment of recruited creatures, balancing offense, defense, and terrain advantage. Units possess unique attributes and abilities, encouraging experimentation with different compositions. However, strategic depth is occasionally undermined by uneven balance, as certain units quickly outclass others, narrowing viable roster options in later stages. This imbalance can lead to a meta where only a handful of creatures remain effective, reducing the sense of diversity the system initially promises. A defining mechanic in Purgatory II is the reliance on Spirit Points (SP), which function as both currency and progression gate. SP is used to recruit new units, enhance abilities, and unlock story missions. Because SP acquisition often requires replaying earlier encounters, grinding becomes an integral part of advancement. While this loop reinforces the tactical nature of preparation before major battles, it can also slow pacing significantly. Players may find themselves revisiting familiar maps repeatedly to accumulate sufficient resources, creating a repetitive rhythm that tests patience. Combat mechanics themselves are functional but occasionally lack polish. Movement across the hex grid requires deliberate planning, yet animations and responsiveness may feel rigid. Enemy AI follows predictable patterns, allowing experienced players to exploit positioning strategies, but this predictability also reduces dynamic tension. Terrain interactions and skill effects sometimes lack clarity, making certain outcomes feel inconsistent. Despite these issues, moments of successful strategy—such as outmaneuvering a stronger enemy force or surviving a difficult encounter through careful resource allocation—deliver genuine satisfaction. Visually, the game adopts a pixel-art aesthetic consistent with classic tactical RPGs. Character sprites and environmental tiles convey a bleak, infernal atmosphere, reinforcing the narrative’s grim tone. While not graphically advanced, the art style suits the game’s design philosophy, emphasizing readability over spectacle. Backgrounds and battlefields evoke a somber, oppressive world, though animation variety is limited. Audio elements, including background music and sound effects, complement the atmosphere but offer modest variation across extended play sessions. Reception among players has been divided, reflecting both appreciation for its ambition and criticism of its rough edges. Fans of indie strategy titles often commend its commitment to hex-based tactical combat and its thematic consistency. Others point to repetitive progression loops, balance issues, and a lack of refinement in interface and combat feedback. The overall experience feels like a project driven by passion and conceptual ambition, though one that could have benefited from further mechanical iteration and polish. Ultimately, Purgatory II stands as a niche tactical RPG that merges dark fantasy storytelling with resource-heavy strategy mechanics. It rewards patience and calculated decision-making, offering a methodical experience for players willing to engage deeply with its systems. While its grinding structure and uneven balance may deter some, those who appreciate indie strategy games rooted in classic design principles may find value in its atmospheric setting and deliberate pacing. It is not a streamlined tactical masterpiece, but it is a determined and thematically cohesive effort that showcases both the creativity and constraints of independent development. Rating: 5/10
