For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. This is one of the best tactical RPG games in recent years. One of the key features of the game is to form your squads with various troops. Combining this with artifacts, affinities, traits and unique characters, there are many possible combinations and viable strategies to organise your army. I can stay between chapters and trying out different combinations for hours. Being able to demote your troops without losing anything is very appreciated. Difficulty of the game is well designed. Captain difficulty is quite lenient so it’s okay to try various strategies and see which one fits your style. Along this first run it’s important to learn several concepts such as volley, enemy attack sequence and priority to prepare for the higher difficulty. For the 2nd run I’ll recommend Warlord + perma death. It’s the time to put your strategy into the real test. The most difficult chapter of the game will disable the perma death temporarily so it’s actually not that difficult. Achievements in the game require two runs to 100%. Only the achievement related to chapter 12 is a bit challenging, especially if you didn’t prepare for it from the start of the game.

This scratched an itch I had from an earlier game I played as a kid called Ogre Battle 64. This is very similar. I heard there are other games like this called Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics. You might have heard of them too. Anyways, I just beat this game on ludicrous difficulty. It was hard but I enjoyed it. What is this? It's a fantasy army management, squad based RPG with level up and customization mechanics, turn based overland map positioning and auto battler combat. I hope that makes sense. But the core of the game is to build up and customize squads of units to fight a war in a fantasy epic setting. Put big dudes with shields in the front and dps and healers in the back basically. You fight on an overland map where you use movement points to get around, attack enemies, and capture objectives. So you feel like a commander/general. This type of game is actually old but its unique and a combimation of a lot of different other genres. Games that come to my mind are Rome Total War, XCOM, Civilization, any JRPG, etc. Its like if you took elements from those games and combined them all into simpler package. Visuals: 4/5 Art style is cute but very basic. This ain't no triple AAA game with crazy animations. Its like a book. I did find the overland maps to be beautiful though and enjoyed playing on them. I also thought the character models looked great. Story: 4/5 Overall, the story is surprisingly epic. It was memorable. It gives enough context to make the battles feel like they matter. Lots of twists and turns too. Typical good vs evil fantasy stuff but with a lot of political drama thrown in. You know, with all the alliances and back stabbing etc. Really hated the villains in this. So good job there. However, interactions with your allies and character development felt like I was playing a dating simulator lol! Gameplay: 5/5 I've played turn based tactical RPGs before. This one had some elements I haven't seen before and I thought they were great. High ground makes a difference. Archers can shoot volleys from a distance. You can basically double team enemy units by shooting them with an all archer unit and then sending in a melee one. Then there are horses that let you make cavalry which have more movement and can retreat after a fight. Sounds OP but you cant make a lot of them and they are weak to spears. Then there are other stuff like light units that can ambush and hit back ranks. There is also freakin guns and cannons and your enemies always have more. I thought it was interesting to combine all these elements. The big battles in the end for forts and towns really felt good. The arenas I liked. Every map had something unique about it that made the battle interesting. I liked all the classes and how you could recruit new troops and build them up or hire mercenaries for money. I liked the special gear that you could customize your units with. The tech tree was good too. Final boss was incredibly tough and felt satisfying when I beat it. Actually took several attempts and I had to rework my army to win. User Interface: 3/5 This is where I got to complain. The interface is alright. Its workable but that is the problem. It felt like work having to use them to get my units the way I wanted them to be. Its a very complex game and there are so many menus you have to go and scroll down through. I had to tinker around to figure out exactly how things work and even double check an encyclopedia to find out what I needed to do. Luckily I already played games like this so I didn't mind it much but yeah...it was a pain sometimes. Overall I'd rate this a 4/5 game but I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone. If this sounds like a game you have played in the past and enjoyed, then give this a shot. You will probably enjoy it like i did too.
Really enjoyed the game. If you liked Fire Emblem or Unicorn Overloard, you'll like this one. We need more games like this on pc.
Really like the customization for each army unit, but.... I spent a good long while in the first few chapters customizing my army and min maxing everywhere i could, AND THEN
A STORY EVENT TAKES AWAY ALL YOUR ARMIES!!!!
I really really REALLY HATE when games like this do that. Drives me up the wall like nobodies business. Still probably gonna like the game though, unless that happens a second time, then I'm definitely giving it up. Recommend for now.
Oof. This one was painful. The premise is cool. There were some legitimately well written scenes and moments. The plot started off very strong. The squad-style combat is an interesting idea. But the game fails at everything it tries to do the longer it goes on. -Combat quickly becomes a trivial matter of deathballing with super units. Counters? Who cares. Just send in the ubermensch and one shot their squad while taking 0 damage. -Fights get waaay too big and long towards the late game. Some maps with upwards of probably 50+ units on the map so you get to sit there, even with 0 animation, max speed and wait *minutes* for a single turn to play out. God forbid you actually watch the fights. -The game makes side objectives seem plot relevant, e.g. characters will call out "We need to liberate the slaves in this area!" in cutscene and then don't even comment if you do it or not. -Story falls off a *cliff* halfway through the game. Again, there are legitimately good ideas, but due to lack of characterization + too much time spent on random filler, the later narrative beats feel like arbitrary railroading rather than interesting narrative payoffs. -Many filler missions with 0 story relevance pads out game, especially later on. Could probably cut a full 1/3rd of the game without losing any major story beats. -Even among the core cast, characters have few interactions and most side characters are abandoned as quickly as they appear. Romance events will appear out of nowhere, between random characters who never have another event together, and then never be mentioned again until the epilogue. -Side plots pop up out of nowhere, add nothing to the larger plot, and are immediately dropped. Ultimately this is a game of failed potential. Nearly every idea here *could've* been good, but simply wasn't well executed. If they make a second game, I hope they learn from the issues here and spend less time on sheer volume of battles and instead focus on fleshing out character dynamics and narrative beats, as well as making combat more about having units fulfill unique roles rather than just steamrolling with a few super units.
Big fan of this one. For those who enjoy old school Fire Emblem, it scratches the itch while being visually and mechanically distinct enough. The story is extremely solid, gameplay is satisfying with side content that allows you to tackle the campaign as you're ready to, and the characters are engaging in a way that makes me care about how I use and place them. One of the GOAT's, 9.6/10.
Scratches an itch most PC games typically don't provide. The stat building and army making is hella fun and the story is an enjoyable experience. Better yet this is one of the more affordable games out there in this day and age, you get a solid 35-45 hours of enjoyable playtime out of this bad boy for $26.00 CDN. That being said, the strategy component to this game isn't *perfect* partially because the AI is pretty dumb; often-times feeling like a chess game with an amateur where you wait for your opponent to make a stupid move that would ultimately decide the game. Sometimes it literally felt like a one-sided slaughter, even on the higher difficulties 8/10 experience,
