Pumpkin Jack

I have to say, I went into Pumpkin Jack with pretty big expectations. From the very first glance, it was obvious the game had a very interesting theme and visual design. The Halloween aesthetic immediately caught my attention, so of course I had to give it a try. As always, I’ll break down what I liked and what made me go “meh.” Things I really liked: When it comes to the core platforming, the game does what it’s supposed to do and it does it well enough. The level design isn’t anything revolutionary, but it’s decent and functional. With a few cosmetic touches and a simple gameplay loop, it delivers a basic but effective platformer experience. To be honest, I can’t call this game amazing, but it’s definitely not bad either. It sits comfortably in that “pretty okay” zone. My full playthrough lasted about 4 hours across 6 chapters, with each level taking roughly 20–30 minutes. It’s a short and digestible experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Also, Turkish language support is a nice bonus, so points for that. One thing I can’t skip mentioning: even though there are many mechanics that become boring over time, the ship mechanic was actually interesting and one of the parts I genuinely enjoyed. Unfortunately, the other repeatedly used mechanics became quite irritating after a while. There are also a few slow walking-on-the-board sequences that felt unnecessarily tedious and honestly a bit frustrating. Things that felt kinda “meh”: The biggest issue for me was the constantly repeated minigames. Some of them drag on way longer than they should and become very boring very quickly. Not gonna lie this is one of the reasons I was actually happy the game was short. If this had been a 10-chapter game, I honestly don’t think I could’ve powered through it. 😅 Combat also felt underwhelming. It works on a basic level, but it’s very shallow and somewhat slow. There just isn’t enough depth to keep fights exciting for long. As for the music… I wasn’t fully sold. It’s not terrible, but it leans a bit too much into “kids game” energy rather than the spooky Halloween atmosphere I was hoping for. I wasn’t expecting full horror vibes, of course, but especially during the racing sections, the tone sometimes made me feel like I was playing something meant for five-year-olds. Final thoughts: Overall, because the game is short, the weaker parts remain tolerable. For platformer fans, this is a decent little experience. Just don’t go in expecting anything groundbreaking it’s a simple, fun, and short game. I’m sitting at about 55% like / 45% dislike, but I’m still leaving a positive review. 🎃✨

Если вы в детстве затирали до дыр диски с сэром Дэниэлом Фортескью, то Pumpkin Jack — это именно то, что доктор прописал.Что понравилось:Атмосфера: Настоящий «Кошмар перед Рождеством». Цвета, музыка, дизайн уровней — всё пропитано духом Хэллоуина.Геймплей: Классический 3D-платформер старой школы. Тут и боевка с разным оружием, и прыжки, и прикольные мини-игры за тыквенную голову.Юмор: Играть за вредного прихвостня Дьявола — это весело. Диалоги с вороном и другими персонажами не дают заскучать.Стиль: Трудно поверить, что почти всё это сделал один человек. Визуал очень сочный.Нюансы:Игра довольно короткая (прошел на 100% за пару вечеров), но это тот случай, когда качество важнее количества.Сложность не самая высокая, но для отдыха после работы — идеально.Итог:10 тыкв из 10. Если ищете дух той самой «Медывы» на ПК — берите не задумываясь. Собрать всё на 100% было в удовольствие!

[b][h3]Пожалуй, начну с интересного факта:[/h3] это первая игра, в которую я поиграла на Steam Deck, и это был прекрасный опыт, так как благодаря этому платформеру я быстро освоила консоль.[/b] Да, верно, это 3D-платформер с боевкой, причем не только с рядовыми противниками, но и с боссами, с которыми можно сражаться разнообразным оружием. Саундтрек, который сопровождает нас во время игры, мне искренне понравился, а локации наполнены прекрасной мрачной атмосферой. This was absolutely the game I needed right now. A super-simple yet extremely charming and fun action platformer that I had an absolute blast playing, and a real drive to get all the collectibles in. My favourite part was definitely all the characters: the dialogue is really enjoyable and I want to cosplay as Jack. My one gripe is the kart minigame in one of the middle levels: the mandatory repeated button presses and poorly-conveyed mechanics were the one dip in my enjoyment in this overall fantastic experience.

It started out fine with good platforming. Then about halfway through there's a big difficulty spike and the way your character handles doesn't feel precise enough to navigate many of the trickier platforming sections. I really liked the mini games idea but most of them have bad camera angles, dragged on way too long and felt frustrating. The bosses have fun mechanics but the odd camera angles and/or zoom and some of the damage these bosses do are massive. Felt like I was playing God of War 3 on hardest difficulty except with crappy camera angles. The combat got dull pretty quick and I ran past as many enemies as I could since there's no incentive to fight them. The story isn't really anything exciting either. The graphics are nice and look cool in HDR, and a the achievements are fairly straightforward if you wanna get a fairly short 100%.
