Pro Football Strategy 2022 is an excellent simulation of football. Also the developer is super friendly and is always looking on ways he can improve the title. You are the coach and have no direct control of the players on the field. You call the play and your players execute what you call. There is a sufficient amount of plays available, and you can edit plays on the fly if needed. There are plenty of options to help you, as the AI can suggest plays for you. It does take a little while to get used to the UI, but after 30 minutes or so you know exactly what you are doing. A major feature of this game is that the AI does not cheat. There is no catch-up logic or rubber banding to keep games close. The simulation engine is really robust, and gives realistic stats and outcomes of the plays. Is your starting QB hurt and your backup isn't that good? You better not try to throw 40 times vs a good pass defense or you will be in for a long game. Just like real life, taking advantage of mismatches are a big part of determining who will win. You have the option of exhibition, play a season, or a career mode. Exhibition mode allows you to put any team vs each other. You want to put the 1985 Bears vs your local high school team? Let God have mercy on their souls. The Alabama Crimson Tide vs the Detroit Lions? The 2013 Broncos vs the 2000 Ravens? You can create all of these match-ups. Season Mode is as it says only one season. However, you have the options to create any league you can think of. You can have a replay of any NFL Season, a season of college football, high school football, or any league that has existed. The introduction of Career Mode gives the game even more longevity. It is quite simple at this time, but it still is fun to build your team up. Also, it might be possible in 2023 for bigger league sizes (College Football) to be used in the career mode. Right now, you can only have a maximum of 32 teams. Also, it is fun to use mods to relive a past season and then see how you can change history.
Boy if this game had local multiplayer career mode, this would be the greatest football sim ever!
Buy game a couple hours ago. Install 1997 mod. First Game. Packers @ Lions. Barry runs for 158 yards and throws for a Tuddy because Scott Mitchell is just as useless in this game as he was in real life, Defense shuts down the Packers for 58 mins holding them to 10 points. Hanson misses the FG with 2 mins left that would have sealed it --"They're gonna Lions it, we're gonna get Farve'd."-- leaving them like 80 yards or so to tie it up, no time outs. Pack get back to back penalties, now Farve is pinned inside the 10.. "Surely there's no way we're gonna Lions this one away.." Farve struggles to get the Pack up to the midfield before heaving a 52 yard hail mary as time expires, and then Mitchell throws a pick on the 2nd play of overtime... and Farve throws the winning tuddy like 4 plays later, thus completing one of the greatest Lions'ing of a game ever and one of the most stereotypical Farve games of 59 minutes of garbage and 1 minute of absolute brilliance, absolute head in my hands this is the team I was born into and I can't even beat that MF'ing #4 in the virtual world moment. Needless to say, this is the most realistic football game I have ever played and I've only played one game but when you can recreate the feeling of being a Lions fan literally straight out of the box it's very hard to argue it, regardless I know I just found something special.
The game has potential. But the free agency system is terrible. Just random player picked. There is no ability to trade players. No contract or salary salary structure. Players retire too early. If we could get these areas fixed it would be amazing.
I just love this game.. It does just about everything perfect. I have been looking for a game like this for years. Not since back in the 1990's when I use to play Tom Landry Deluxe Football on the Amiga have I found a game that is just as much fun.. And PSF 2022 is a ton better.. On and Tom Landry Deluxe Football was a Masters degree project just like PSF is.. That is so cool. This game really is a labor of love and I will purchase each new edition the dev comes out with and support this game. I will be playing this game for a long time.. Thank you so much for creating it..
Just had an opponent pass for over 700 yards in regulation to come back from a 40 point so the developers claim that the AI doesn't cheat is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Probably going to refund. Edit: Everything else about the game is as expected so I decided to change my review. Just avoid the "watch sim" option unless you like getting screwed because after only a handful of games I'm confident it's not coded properly.
I've purchased the last 3 PSF versions (and looking forward to PSF 2023). Kerry Batts, the sole programmer/designer, has done a fantastic job making the franchise better each and every year. If you go to the discussions forum you will see how involved Kerry is listening to his customers. The game is essentially a head coach level football sim. You call the plays and formations, make the game decisions, etc.. You don't control the players directly as in Madden. The in-game action is sprite-drive, 2D, side scrolling, retro goodness. This is the best football game/sim out there as an entire package of realistic outcomes at the coach level. The engine is based off the old Tom Landry football sim of the 1990s which was known to produce realistic outcomes and solid stats. A better product for far, far less $$$$ than Madden. A must buy for any football fan. The community offers a wide range of audio and season mods that can be downloaded and dropped in PSF to further enhance an already rock solid, entertaining product.
If you love sim sports and realistic replays and coaching options...look no further! I have been playing sim games since dice and fast action cards as a youngster in the 70's and this game is very close to be the game I always dreamed would happen...fantastic and getting better all the time. The mods are wonderful.
I really enjoy this game as a simulator! It provides realistic play, AI, and everything else. I think that my only complaint is that I wish there were more realism integrated into the offseason. I enjoy the free agent draft, as it's a bit of a breath of fresh air, but would like the option for FA bidding. I think this franchise has a ton of potential and really appreciate the creator for bringing us a realistic sim!
Good game, worth the money. Animation is nostalgic.... reminds me of Tecmo Bowl Tournaments 0n my Sega in the early 90s.
