I played the predecessor to this game in the 90s. My brother and I sunk many hours into playing it. As a kid, we did not understand that the animations are rough visual representations of the play that has been calculated with a result before you actually watch the play. So there was undue frustration as kids when the animation looked like our players were doing some strange things. If we had understood the intention of the animation from from the start, it wouldn't have been a frustration. Regardless, we played and enjoyed that game for many hours. Fast forward to 2025. I had not realized that Kerry Batts had picked the game back up and was developing the game for the last 5+ years on Steam. The nostalgia rush alone was worth the $25. The game has been improved substantially since 93 under the hood while maintaining similar visuals and animations. If you are looking for a realistic football engine, I have not found better than this game. It is a different structure than most other games I've seen where player ratings represent certain areas like speed of a player. In this game, speed represents the chances of the player breaking out and making big gains rather than their actual running speed. Strength has to do with middle runs/tight ends, and quickness affects a player's ability for outside runs and counters. These are subtle differences compared to the usual strength, speed, and agility you see in games like Madden. While the stats in this game do account for actual speed, agility, and strength, it seems that the game generalizes the abilities and combines them to create an overall skill rather than just a flat attribute. I like this. It makes specific ratings that much more important in my view in contrast to just knowing how fast a player can run. I will add that this is all found within the user manual in the game and I have no insider information on the details of the player ratings. This is just my experience after playing quite a few games and Kerry has never revealed the inner workings of his engine which I both respect and appreciate. The modding community is dedicated, and has gone above and beyond with their contributions. Installing the mods is simple enough, and the community is very helpful. You can install any season with a working schedule going back as far as the 40s, and the game gives you the ability to edit and customize the league, players, and teams in great detail. The animations are sometimes a bit off. The user interface isn't the most modern. I see some things that I remember seeing when I played the predecessor 90s game. Normally that would be multiple points against a game, but this one maintains the retro charm of 90s games and I enjoy that. Once you realize that the animations themselves are more a choreographic representation of what happened rather than causing what happens, this is only a minor point against the game itself and is honestly only an issue if you are looking for a more Madden styled game. Pro Strategy Football is not Madden, and I couldn't be happier saying that, and I'm grateful that Kerry has maintained his original vision. In conclusion, what you are buying is a unique game engine. You have the ability to sim seasons just to see what happens, coach a team with minimal detail, or coach with extreme detail. The developer says his game does not cheat and I believe him. This game engine gives all the realism while still allowing for surprises and acknowledging the subtle skills like a QB with high leadership being more likely to turn a game around than a QB with low leadership. So if you want a truly deep strategic simulation engine to go back and play NFL years that are nostalgic for you, or even recent to current years, I can't think of a better game to recommend to you. So while you are deciding whether to buy the game and support an dedicated independent developer (which I highly recommend if it isn't obvious by now), I'm going to start the game up and continue my mid 90s historic career with the Packers. Go Pack Go!
Pro Strategy Football 2026 is a fantastic coaching simulator with unmatched customization, and user mods that cover pro football from 1940 until today. You can read the product description to get an idea of what the game can do and what is new for this version. My favorite additions would be: 1 - Ability to choose formations that more accurately represent football in the particular era you are playing. No more 4 wide or shotgun in 1943(unless that's your thing). 2 - The fact that PSF will now save ALL plays from any game so you are able to go back and watch an entire game if you want. 3 - You can export each mod year rookie class, and then import them into your careers. PSF26 is a football sandbox that gets better every year, and '26 is I think the best so far. Replaying the history of pro football, or those who enjoy creating their own fictional football universes, this is definitely for you.
Best version yet -- more accurate, better computer coaching, better-looking, deeper overall. I'm definitely not a "careerist," but here we do have the best season-by-season historical pro football simulator yet created. Do not hesitate!
recently got into the cfb dynasty game but wanted to actually see the plays, this is exactly what i wanted, can tell im gonna love this edit: NEEDS TRADES/ FREE AGENTS BAD
Full disclosure, Beta tester. As unbiased as I can be, I am so impressed by how much better this version is than PSF25, ...and 25 was very good. Kerry has added so many new features including customizing the use of formations to reflect historic eras, career mode now has human engineered trades with a point tracker if you want to try to make it an even swap, trading draft picks is back again, and there is now a way to get pretty close to historic draft classes as you play put a career. Game play has been modified to make it even more realistic than last year. And now you can use the Studio mode to check in on any game , any drive, any play, not just TDs and turnovers. As always lots of customization to set this up how you prefer it to run and display. Mods are great as always thanks to the guys who put the time into it. And now back to my historic single season league with great and near great teams that I selected from the mods.
I am a yearly buyer of Pro Strategy Football - I love the game and I have for many years. Every year Kerry outdoes himself by listening to his community and adding new functions people vote for. The game is the best American Football sandbox you can find. It is modern but has an awesome retro artwork that somehow feels updated but nostalgic. You can run one team, or you can just control the universe as a 'god mode' football commissioner (My personal favorite) but the fun thing is you may focus on one team for a few years to coach/manage, the next decade you may focus on another, that is the beauty of this game in how easy it is to control & customize things. The game does not come with official NFL teams however there is a very dedicated teams of mod creators that have you covered. EVERY league can be installed in about 20-25 minutes and there are how-to videos on Youtube. You want to play a classic Raiders/Steelers game of the 1970s? The game looks and feels exactly that way, you want to play Colts vs. Patriots in 2007? It will accurately reflect that era in both players and graphics. One of the best features of this game is the customization and ability to make your own league & universe. Fictional football sims are encouraged and very easy to do. You do not need to meticulously edit for hours on end to make your own players. Very easy to make your own world and VERY fun! 10/10 as usual. Kerry, thank you for another amazing year.
This is easily the best Pro Strategy Football. So many great additions to this years game. The ability to trade players and draft picks, the ability to create custom drafts, the ability to watch any play from any game, and more. The only ask I have for 27 is player contracts in career mode.
Been playing since 2023. Highly customizable football game to allow for you to create your own rules, teams, and more. Mod packs allow for an even more enjoyable experience. Even as much as I enjoy the mods, I've been finding it more of a joy creating my own league and teams. One of the best in terms of statically accurate football games there is. Kerry the developer has done a great job each year in adding new things as well as listening to community feedback.
Pro Strategy Football 2026 is the gridiron sim that gets your heart racing with no slot-machine glitter required. Here the playbook is the star. New tools turn every season into a story: league record books, per-player season logs, and a highlights suite that lets you relive any drive like it’s Sunday TV. No other game lets you build and revisit your own history quite like this. You can now trade players and draft picks (manually). Play fair (or not) and wear the GM visor, or step in as an omnipotent Commissioner and watch the league evolve. Era-accurate formations and the sim stays clean, demanding, and deeply rewarding. It respects your time and your brain: clear decisions, honest AI, and wins that feel earned. If you want pure management instead of button-mashing, welcome home.
True story. I have checked out ALL of the following: Axis Football, Draft Day Sports Pro Football, Football Legacy Manager, Front Office Football, and ZenGM Football. (I never got into Madden, though, and God knows what some of the other obscure football games are like, including "You Suck at Football". Correct, but I don't need somebody's game to tell me that!) And when I say "checked out", I mean extensively, including cash and time invested. Simply said, none of those other games are as fun to play as Pro Strategy Football is to me. Disclaimers: I don't like financials, so how PSF simulates that part of the game is just fine with me. Also, I play strictly fictional, and SamGar's fictional league mods add so much to PSF in my opinion. So, if you are like me in those regards, you will probably like playing Pro Strategy Football. I love the animation, by the way. Never change it!
