They took the best parts of Wing Commander (the chatter between missions in the bar, missions briefings) and TIE Fighter/Freespace 2 (fluid dogfighting, detailed controls) to make an excellent space dogfighter with a fun story. I really hope we see more.
I really enjoyed it, it's more Wing Commander 1 than TIE Fighter or Freespace so the scope is limited but they did manage to cram more variation than I expected in the campaign. Dogfighting is classic Wing Commander WWII-style with some momentum to allow some afterburner moves, but they added lateral thrust, reverse thrust and drift as well as energy and shield quadrant management so the dogfights are involved enough (more than in WC for sure). It also has HOTAS support (I played it with a VKB hotas, a STECS Max throttle and a Gladiator NXT joystick to be specific) as well as gamepad. I don't have VR so I can say it plays well on a normal monitor, I did use headtracking though. This being from a small indie studio there is no voice acting so the dialogues are conveyed through JRPG-style dialogue boxes but the developers have been thoughtful enough to allow binding gamepad/HOTAS controls to the full interface to allow among other things to scroll through them without having to reach for the mouse. The story could have fit easily as an early Wing Commander title, a simple story of pirates, war, etc with a few nice twist and turns, sometimes conveyed during the missions. Personally I liked the Star Fox vibes the characters give, it surely is something different and makes me sort of wish for a Star Fox spacesim.
Great Game! Feels like Squadrons without the big franchise name. Cool responsive and fun flight controls no matter what controller you use (Im playing in VR using a x52 hotas, mapping keys was pretty easy and was detected on the 1st try). Graphics are more on the low poligon cartoonish side, but that gives excellent performance 120fps super stable and smooth. Really a great fun game, id love for more DLC story missions (and i havent even finished the main story). Fast, fun, good story, easy to get into, great performance, honestly this game is super easy to recommend.
Having spent years with titles like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, XWAUP, FreeSpace, Starlancer, and plenty more, I can genuinely appreciate the brilliance of this gem. The developers have delivered something rare these days: a FUN—remember that?—story‑driven experience with endearing characters and nonstop action. The 6DOF flight model feels like a “Star Citizen‑light,” and I mean that in the best possible way. I’m playing on hard difficulty, and the early missions immediately push you to master approach patterns, energy management, and aim correction. A few missions later, you’re thrown into fast‑paced dogfights against increasingly skilled opponents, both in accuracy and attack/defense behavior. Before long, you'll pull interesting maneuvers yourself creating some visually stunning moments. If I had one minor gripe, it’s the UI—it takes a bit of time to read cleanly, and there’s no clear distance indicator to your target (or speed) beyond the cockpit MFD. The tutorial could have gone deeper into HUD elements and missile systems. But beyond that, the game is engaging from start to finish, and I absolutely love the team for developing it. This indie gem has become genuinely dear to my heart. I sincerely hope to see much more from this developer in the future. 100% recommended.
The game play is fine. I have tons of space VR games and it plays similar. Problem is it has no voice acting. Its marketed as a game like Wing Commander and Star Fox but it chose not to focus on story driven immersion. Lore feels stale. I have tons of soul less lazy stories in VR already. Didn't need another one. If you want a game like this but more like Wing Commander go play Rogue Stargun.
I bought this the day it came out. At first I was a bit hesitant, because the missions seemed to zip by fairly quickly. Within what felt like a half hour I was already on Mission 7. So I uninstalled and got a refund. But something was whispering in the back of my head, "try it again." So I did. And I'm really enjoying it this time! I don't think the dev did anything to change the game during this time---I think I just didn't get the settings right. It seemed like my NPC teammates were too good, and they kept killing all the targets before I had a chance to land any decent hits. I'm getting the hang of things much better now, especially the flight model/combat aspect---which is great by the way! (Love that drift mode!) Missions seem to last longer, the NPC teammates don't seem to be overly aggressive and clear the map before I get a few kills in---everything seems to be working great! EDIT: The dev did, in fact, see these reviews and actually listened to the players and adjusted the parameters I mentioned above in a patch in between the time I refunded the game and the time I re-purchased it. What this means to me is the dev actually cares about his game and the players who want to enjoy it! Two thumbs up! Re-binding the keys was super easy and simple, and made flying easier for me since it matches most of my other spaceship combat game keybindings. I hate when space games make re-binding keys difficult or overly complicated. That is not the case here. So big thumbs up there. You can also adjust the difficulty between Story, Easy, Medium, and Hard. The graphics during combat are crisp and clean and gorgeous. I don't play in VR but from the other reviews, it seems to be pretty fun in VR mode. The scenes in between combat have a Saturday morning cartoon vibe, which is fine with me. The purple crackling of warp space is beautiful, and I can only assume it would be even moreso in VR. Plus, tis is one of those games were you actually grow to care about your NPC squadmates and don't want them to die. The story itself is classic space opera and written very well. The only thing I would really suggest at this point would be to add voice acting to the game. Dev, if you're reading this, I'd be more than happy to lend my voice talents for free if you ever decided to release a patch that had voice acting in it. I work in broadcast radio, I've been trained to read dramatically. So, only three hours in and I'm enjoying it so far! Yes, I would recommend this purchase if you like linear mission-based space combat games like Freespace 2, TIE Fighter/X-Wing, Wing Commander, or the newer ones like Strike Suit Zero, SW Squadrons, Hypergate, House of the Dying Sun, etc. EDITED on 7/26/25 to say: I just finished the story campaign and I've got to say, BUY THIS GAME!! You will love it! Man, I wish I could play this in VR. Without spoilers, those last few missions---whoo boy, space was gettin' busy! But no, seriously, two thumbs enthusiastically way up. Get this game!
Top tier dog fighting. Rivals House of the Dying Sun for fun. Its more of a wing commander style. The story is light but if you like military sci fi its rather comfy. The flying isn't freespace 2, but it sure borrows a lot. Good stuff.
I grew up playing Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance before moving onto more complex space sims like Elite Dangerous. Alliance Peacefighter scratched that nostalgia itch of a more back to basics, single-seater fighter, arcadey space game. Bearing in mind this was made by a two-person team, the campaign is good, the graphics are great with a more stylised approach and I had a lot of fun blowing up a lot of enemy starfighters. If you have a joystick/HOTAS and you like those old-school space combat sims, I think you'll enjoy this.
I am a huge Wing Commander fan back from the original through Prophecy. This game definitely recaptures the spirit of WC and everything it was about. The space combat feels good, and the addition of strafing is really fun. I played on my Deck and VR and both worked really well. I prefer VR now because being in the cockpit is awesome, as is being able to manipulate your power levels without going into a menu. Overall, if you liked WC and want to recapture some of that this is a solid purchase!
Gameplay is super fun. I’m playing with VR controllers only and everything is quickly and easily accessible. The UI is simple and intuitive. My biggest complaints: VR controller support is a little shaky. Literally… I’m using a quest three with quest pro controllers. Something is creating phantom inputs that drag my hands around from time to time. Flying straight and level my throttle will randomly shoot into reverse. When in final approach to the Talon my right hand will be visibility twitching. Wishlist: I want the VR controllers to behave a little better. Also I would like to be able to mix peripherals. I like using rudder pedals even in my space games! Fun gameplay that is really reminiscent of Wing Commander and Tie Fighter, with some of that Freespace flair thrown in.
