THIS IS NOT THE LATEST VERSION - GO CHECK OUT PSF 2026!
This is last year's version, was a huge jump forward (hint, 2026 is even bigger!)
PSF's realistic engine for on-field results, excellent AI that never cheats, and fun visuals are just the start! New to this year's release are
TWO career modes!
Historic Careers (also called Encyclopedia mode) let you load HISTORIC rosters in each season of your career!
GM Careers now include League Expansion! Add or relocate teams or even redefine your whole league structure!
Convince retiring players to stay on!
Vastly overhauled animation, with custom zooming, custom scoreboards, and more!
Fog and overcast skies!
More options when creating custom pick-up games (set the month, name the stadium, more)!
Set the starting month for your tournaments!
Improved Draft Pools! The size and ratings directly relate to your league!
Historic careers are new in this version, an amazing addition for history buffs! Using the fantastic mods provided by the community, you can load historic rosters each year of your career! Start any year you like and play consecutive single seasons all the way from the 1940s to the present day, with extensive year by year stats for every team and individual players, along with career stats! Track season and career leaders and franchise history, even as teams move!
As you begin each new season PSF allows you to see which players were added to each team via the draft or free agency, or trades, as well as which players retired. PSF provides you with an extensive encyclopedia of cumulative stats on each team including head to head records of all teams over all of the seasons you play.
Animation is still the retro graphic you love, but vastly improved, and you can now select custom scoreboards on the coaching and animation screens! You can also select any custom color for the network box and sports ticker! The engine and AI are improved even over before!
For people new to PSF, it is based on a realistic game engine that was developed for a Master's project and then fine-tuned over many years with great feedback from users. But it's not just a text game! You can watch any game played live, can coach against the AI or another player, can simulate entire weeks or even seasons, and the game results aren't affected!
Because the foundation was in the coaching, the game results ARE greatly affected by plays called - formations, shifts, motion, coverage, everything that a coach can set in a play, including substituting players! Of course, weather, refs, and injuries can impact you as well!
BUT PSF doesn't box you in! You can change rules, tweak injuries and penalties and other realism settings, and choose how YOU want to play the game. The game is highly customizable, and you can run the whole league as a commissioner, play behind the scenes as a GM for one or more teams, coach from the sidelines, or even watch games in the stands as an observer – and you can play any or all of these roles at any time.
As coach, you can design your own plays and juggle your lineup. As GM, you can draft the next unstoppable quarterback, sign former stars off the waiver wire, convince a retiring player to stay on another year, and more. As the Commissioner, you can even modify league rules to reflect changes in football history.
As a fan, you can watch the highly-developed computer game coach both teams, and a running sports ticker tracks other games. In the upcoming version, you can now zoom in on the field and customize your scoreboards, including a new broadcast box version.
You can also create simple pick-up games, which I also call quick games or exhibition games, where you can pair any two teams from any leagues, you can set the game’s weather, change the rules, and even create situations, such as being down by 4 with 2:00 left in the game.
Whether you coach, watch a game played live, or run quick simulations, the engine treats every game the same, so you get the same results whether you watch it or sim it.
BUT WAIT, there's more! The community has created dozens of historical and fantasy leagues, including art sets, schedules, and everything you need to play for thousands of hours! With the historic careers, you can load real rosters for every season!
UPDATE: I have implemented the 2024 kickoff rules!

This isn't worth 25$ and has no business being a yearly release (If massive corporations can't provide meaningful advancements between annual iterations, why would ONE developer even try?). The on-the-field gameplay is decent but clunky and has a hit-or-miss AI. The career mode is deeply underwhelming and barren. Despite what it says on this store page, there are no trades or free agency (I don't count "drafting" FAs after the main draft and in the same order as it's lacking both freedom and agency as in "the ability to choose"). There are also no salaries, contracts, finances, pre-season, meaningful player development, reason to play beyond a season, etc. After launching, one of the first messages you get is a strong recommendation to download mods. While mods are fantastic, they shouldn't affect the price or replace missing content (like the lack of historic careers). For all their problems, PSF pales in comparison to NFL Head Coach 06 or 09, and I recommend playing them instead. I also understand that supporting indie developers is important, but selling annual overpriced releases without significant improvements is anti-consumer, and I don't support such practices. Refunded.
For the price it's a decent product. However this has been going on for several years and should be a fine tuned game by now. UI is 1990s along with graphics and game play is great though but the outdated graphics and UI hurt. My issue is really why have historical stuff if you have to go download and set it up manually. Shouldn't even claim historical drafts, its replay game not a living game. I know it's being worked on, but since what 2017?
PSA: I was a Beta Tester. Every year our programmer seems to tear the program down as we search for bugs. New features are added, everything is recompiled and tested to (hopefully) ensure stability, and every year is a race to our preferred deadline of the NFL opening week. This was no different. In PSF2025 we see some amazing steps forward in immersion. "On the field" you have more control over your scoreboard's appearance, and can now zoom in to your heart's content. The graphics themselves are much the same, though updated to 2024 with the proper mods. The big win this year is with "career" play. There are now historical careers, where you play a given season and can then update it to the next season's file. This prevents players from moving or retiring early and is great for simulationists who want to follow say the 1970s Vikings, 90s Bills or 00-10s Patriots and see how well you hold up. Fictional careers also receive a boost as the AI for drafts, retirements and such is much improved. It might not be able to stand up to a dedicated rebuilder of teams, but for casual players like myself it's formidable enough. If PSF has any real weakness, it's the dependence on mods which must be downloaded and prepped separately. We've done everything we can to simplify and streamline the steps, but it still takes some effort. The mods are highly recommended regardless, as that's how we add historical seasons, proper uniforms and helmets, and so forth. I've played this game through several years now. Our programmer/creator is highly responsive and eager to make the best game within the capabilities of the program's engine. Every year brings new challenges, new victories and defeats on the field, and sometimes truly bizarre plays that are good plain fun. This is not an arcade game, nor does it have some advanced features like financials, but if your sweet spot is coaching and/or GMing your team somewhere in the midst of that PSF is hard to beat. And the graphics make me nostalgic. :)
Pro Strategy Football 2025 is a great continuation of what is in my opinion the best all around American football game available. The game features a retro look and style but with all of the features we have seen in various games dating back to the late '80s. A solid game/simulation engine that gives you realistic results, and allows you to play with real pro football teams, players, and leagues dating back to the 1940s thanks to an active mod community. The game also allows for customization not seen in most games. You can create leagues, players, teams, uniforms, field art and with '25 you have a variety of on screen scoreboards that allow a logo with a separate one for championship games. Legacy features like a sports ticker with scores from around your league, the ability to go back and view actual highlights from the entirety of your leagues history, play by play logs, boxscores, etc add to immersion and the fun of creating and running your own football universe. New big features in '25 are the Historic Careers that allow you to pick a start year and play through Pro Football history with accurate rosters each season, accruing stats and building your own history with real players and teams. The game now allows for league expansion and realignment. There are also some graphical improvements including fog when the weather gets lousy. Way too much to list but if you consider yourself a football fan, you can't go wrong for $24.99. Truly a pro football sandbox that would be a great addition to anyones game library.
too basic. need mods to just make it look official. Its not really a management style game like the football manager series
Kerry has hit it out of the park yet again with PSF 2025. A developer who truly listens to his community and that is commendable. PSF2025, like the other versions of the game as you can see is a 'retro style' football sim that gives 90s Madden Vibes but has a lot of updated and modern features. The game is incredibly customizable and is intended to be played with mods (Trust me, Mods are super easy to install). You can play as the 1972 Dolphins and try to go undefeated, or the 2007 Patriots and try to top them, or you can just do an entirely fictional universe of your own! All up to you, this is your football sandbox. The cool part is you can truly just be a 'god mode' commissioner and change things around as much as you want. As great as other games like football manager, and OOTP are they are heavy on logistics. This game is not that, much more streamlined and focused on the coaching and games itself. This year, one of the excellent additions that I was very excited about is league expansion. You can start your league in the 1940s with 8 Jumbo formation, Wing-T, leather helmet wearing goons and evolve the league up to the modern day NFL with 32 teams. Or maybe in your universe, the 1950s and beyond in football had more passing? Again, the choice is ALL yours. I highly recommend this game, it is always great and Kerry guaranteed will listen to his community and implement the next biggest ask in future versions of the game. BEST FOOTBALL SIM period.
tried it out. okay game but not my cup of tea. no custom playbook or create a play from scratch play call menu needs overhaul( limited when in casual mode cant call play action) love the mod community everyone was helpful not enough in game as a whole to keep me interested player models need overhaul and fine tuning maybe try a 2.5 D model ala tecmo suberbowl 3 player arms are too long lol(just a nitpick) game has potential though. good job Kerry
The heart of this game is coach mode. If you like playing in the GM role this game might not be what you are looking for in a football game. That being said..I don't think there is a better game on the market that plays as realistically as this one does. Penalties..momentum shifts and big plays just feel so real in this game!
Just modded up the game (2024 NFL) and.... wow! This brings back serious 90s Madden Vibes. I love the play calling, and the animations are spot on. This made my dreary hotel stay in Burlington, Iowa much more manageable. Thanks, Kerry! \o/
Simply the best American Football sim on pc. Not a really for those who enjoy the deep franchise modes, as this has a basic level career mode. You can select free agents and draft picks, but there are no contract negotiations. This is more of a coaching game where you pick the plays and watch them play out. There are plenty of customization options available and mod support that allows you to play out tons of seasons at no extra cost.
