About
Choose from 20+ distinct superpowers! Lead your team of superheroes to the moon and beyond, and stop the supervillains of PSION—unless, of course, you join them.
Posthuman: Guardians vs PSION is an interactive superhero novel by Evan J. Peterson, author of Drag Star!, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based, 300,000 words and hundreds of choices, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Decades ago, legendary hero Adam Atom created the Guardians: an elite force of posthumans to protect the world from those who use their powers for harm. In response, PSION—the Posthuman Supremacy International Organized Network—sprang up. The United Nations calls them terrorists; they call themselves a liberation army protecting posthumans from human persecution.
Now PSION is hatching their most ambitious plan yet—and it's up to you and your fellow Guardians to stop them. Together with your team—super-genius Pi, teleporter Taikonaut, elementalist Moxie, healer Gilead, brilliant fighter Vogue, and Basilica (who can turn herself 20-feet tall and turn her skin to stone)—you'll travel to the moon, Mars, and all over the earth to try to unravel their plots. Why have your allies gone missing? Where is PSION's new secret base? Why is their leader BrainSkull gathering such a vast amount of power—and what is he going to do with it? Is the next Posthuman War on the way?
Expand your powers, train new cadets to join the next generation of Guardians, and protect the world from PSION. But along the way, you might just discover that they're not the villains that everyone claims they are…
• Play as male, female, nonbinary, or agender; gay, straight, or bi; asexual and/or aromantic
• Choose from over 20 superpowers: shapeshifting, super-strength, telepathy, weather control, gravity-bending, technomancy, energy manipulation, and more! Then level up to expand your powers and discover new ones!
• Romance a supergenius with a tragic legacy; the class clown elementalist; an intense former vigilante healer; a friendly teleporter, or a stone-skinned rebellious new recruit. Or maybe you still carry a torch for your Academy classmate who switched sides…
• Travel the world gathering up new recruits for the Guardians—if PSION doesn't get to them first!
• Keep an eye on the public image of the Guardians! Field questions at press conferences, and make sure that you look great in the Planetary Bugle!
• Bend elements! Read minds! Smash stuff!

The world in this story is very interesting. Or so I thought. I tried going into this game with an open mind, as someone who loves the superhero genre. But I just can not recommend this game. The story is just... Not bad, but very very Meh. I won't say any spoilers, but the world this game sets up is basically X-Men's world, of Humans vs 'Mutants', aka 'Post Humans'. Those born with super powers, and those power activate some X years after they are born, like Mutants in X-Men. And Humans hate and fear the Super Powered, like X-Men, they are called Posthumans cause they are concidered the next evolution of humans.... Like X-Men. Seeing a Pattern here? But here's the most not X-Men thing in the entire game... That 'Conflict' of Humans vs Posthumans? Yeah that never actually becomes a part of the story. We HEAR it exists, we are TOLD it is. But other than like 2 humans, 1 we talk to in the very beginning of the game, and 1 is a reporter where we get a press interview live, we do not see, interact with, talk to, hear about, or communicate with any other humans again the ENTIRE game. Every other person we interact with, is a Posthuman. So they built up this entire conflict filled world... And we never once interact with it or experience it. Ever. That's already a pretty big negative. That the game has to TELL and never SHOWS us the world building, and we never experience that world we are told about. But also, as many other reviews have pointed out, the story is VERY linear. There is only 1 choice in the entire game where you make a 'Choice' and 'Join' one of 3 Factions. BUT no matter which one you pick, no matter your reasoning, no matter your morals, beliefs, and choices. ALL 3 choices then immediately goes into the Final Chapter and Event, which always goes the exact same with, no matter what, fighting the same enemies, encountering the same choices, saving the same people, and defeating the big bad the exact same way. I went through the game 3 times, taking a different power set, morals, and character choices each time, trying each of the 3 paths in that 1 choice, and picking 3 different options in the final chapter, and it ALWAYS ends goes through the exact same thing in the final chapter. That 1 chapter where you get a choice of 3 factions to join? That is the ONLY time the game is "Different" For each playthrough, and it is VERY short and quickly shoves you right into the final conflict. Your character, doesn't matter. Your choices, doesn't matter. Your powerset, doesn't matter. YOUR story, doesn't matter. Maybe, MAYBE, the second game if there ever is one, will expand and build off the first, where in the first game your choices don't matter, maybe the Second Game will trigger actual split in the stories based on the choices you made on the first game. Maybe the first game is just the setup and will pay off in the second. I don't know. The second time doesn't exist, and probably never will exist. But right here, right now? All we have is this game, and this story. If you love Super Heroes games and worlds, and want to have super powers, and you just want a 1 time casual read through a shortish choose your own adventure, and don't care if it's a bit Meh. Go ahead. Give it a read. But if your a fan of Choice of Games, and expecting a deep game with mechanics, RPG elements, multiple choices, and a diverse story based on those choices? Skip this and go find a much better game. I've spent 22 hours into this game, and while I don't regret it cause I hope there is a second game with a better everything to make it worth it. I just can't recommend anyone else play it, unless they are die hard superhero lovers and just going to buy it based on that concept alone.
