About

Poker Quest is a fantasy game where you battle through a world full of monsters, using a standard deck of playing cards (like the "Queen of Spades") to empower your items in combat. Bigger and better hands can trigger stronger abilities on your items.
Discover thousands of different items and hundreds of monsters. March forward through a huge variety of locations and events in a procedurally generated, high-fantasy world.
Choose one of many heroes. Each hero comes with a unique set of equipment and abilities, to encourage many different play styles.
A deep and interesting world full of Castles, Knights, Wizards, and Dragons. And Poker cards.
Choose whether to play with or without permanent upgrades. (Some would call it roguelite vs. roguelike modes)
20+ unique heroes, and many more to come.
Daily Runs with public stats and other interesting details.
Challenge runs with game-changing modifiers.
Mini-games. Casinos!
Thousands of unique items.
Hundreds of unique monsters.

Poker Quest feels a lot like a deck-builder, but is fundamentally very different. The world map takes inspiration from Slay the Spire, with the intent of providing a great variety of events. The combat is inspired by Dicey Dungeons, but instead of dice, we use playing cards. That is where the similarities to other games end. Poker Quest contains a vast, novel set of game mechanics that centrally focus on the properties of the playing cards.
Some of the knowledge that you may have gained from other card games will naturally carry over to Poker Quest. Additionally, Poker Quest is a game that you can play to hone your skills at determining card probabilities, but while playing a fantasy RPG. With enough practice on the hardest difficulties, the answers to questions like "What are the chances they have a Spade in those two cards?" can become second nature to you. Or you can play on Casual mode and not worry too much about these things.

If you like Balatro and you like high fantasy, you’ll love this game. While it doesn’t have the crazy “build jokers for silly big numbers” part of Balatro, the fact that you need to maximise different hand types for your various items (sword, shield, etc) every turn, while balancing your resources to mitigate the enemies own hands leads to some high level cerebral gameplay. I’ve only just scratched the surface of this game, but can tell it’s gonna be a staple for me. Big thanks to Olexa for bringing it to my attention!
Hard as nails, and wildly compelling. Sucking up my free time like nobody's business.
TLDR: It's a good game. It's worth the price (albeit a little less octane than Slay The Spire). However, the game has one fault that I think would fix many problems if tended to: the 'card pull upgrade' costs too much at the start--BUT--it is so essential to get that you end up getting it (likely twice) before considering any of the (really fun/thought out) items/consumables/upgrades. I WANT to get items/consumables/upgrades, but the obvious risk/benefit analysis is to get an extra card. Sadly it doesn't make you much stronger, it just makes getting screwed less likely. Which isn't as much fun as getting an item/upgrade. That said, if you play past character victory (you can claim victory or continue), then this problem dissipates.
EDIT (12/08/2025) I underestimated this game. I quote a few words from my original review 'Waste a few hours on...' - that was a little naive. At the time of writing I have 95.6 hours logged and that will definitely increase. Once you become familiar with the mechanics and all the iterations possible, in conjunctions with the different abilities of the characters you end up unlocking, then the game offers a huge wealth of tactical possibilities. In fact, I can't get my head around how they thought it all up and would love to read a developer's blog on the initial inception and subsequent development of the game. I love it ! ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW I'm giving this a positive review purely down to the sale price that I bought it for - £2.55. If I had paid the full price of £12.79 I would have felt cheated a little, due to issues of graphics, presentation, ease of navigating menus etc. However, if you can get it for the sale price mentioned then I would say go for it. It's a solid little card-based strategy game that you can waste a few hours on.
Poker Quest surprised me. It has a slow progression system which keeps you going for way longer that i thought. For some people maybe it's too slow, especially if you want to unlock everything. For me it was fine, but half of the achievements are ridiculous and i'm not that invested to go through with them. Still a fun casual game for most.
Take a while to wrap my slow ass brain around it all, but off to a good start. For £1.27 absolutely. Get it quick before the sale ends.
Fun game with balancing issues
ROGUE LIKE + POKER? Poker Quest. Although the luck factor is pretty high, strategy makes a lot of difference in coming forward. The game is addicting.
