The negatives: - There's only one arena. While the gameplay loop is fun, I couldn't help but wish there were more environments to fight in. By the time I had unlocked almost everything, I was definitely ready for a scenery change. - Death resets your entire run. This becomes especially frustrating when you're learning a boss, since every failed attempt means replaying a few minutes of the same opening waves before you get another chance. And the first stretch of 100 kills is slow to get through. Now for the positives: - Shooting feels fantastic. Firing and reloading the revolvers is incredibly satisfying, and the game absolutely nails the fantasy of being a lightning-fast gunslinger. - The Western aesthetic is excellent. It's a genre we don't get nearly enough of, and Kill the Crows commits to it with style. - The enemies variety is awesome. Yes, there's only a handful, including 3 bosses. But it keeps up the pace very well. * The pixel art is gorgeous. Enemy designs are clean, effects are punchy, and the overall presentation is charming. - The soundtrack fits the setting really well and adds a lot to the atmosphere. - Despite only having a handful of weapons and Showdown, they all feel distinct and good. - The curses gives the game extra variety in gameplay. Pretty great mechanic. The biggest thing holding Kill the Crows back is simply that there isn't more of it. The core gameplay is strong enough that I wanted more guns, more enemy types, and especially more arenas to fight through. That's a good problem for a game to have. If you're looking for a short, satisfying arena shooter with a unique Western flavor, this is an easy recommendation. It's not a massive game, but for $5, it absolutely delivers. If I had to score it, I'd probably give it a solid 9.5 out of 10 as a Twin Stick Shooter game for me. I don't play that genre a lot, but if more are like these, I will enjoy it greatly. Now get out there and Kill The Crows!
Hard game. Not for everyone, but good if you like a challenge.
This game hits that "just one more round" like no other for me. This game is brutal with you only allowing to take one hit (unless you take the tarot card like a coward) but every single death is your fault. The one complaint that has been echoed by many others is how gear unlock requires the prior gear to be unlocked as well. This leads to you hitting a 600 kill run but only unlocking the 300 kill gear, then requiring you to run another 400, then 500, and then 600 kill run even though you already satisfied the requirements. I find this complaint somewhat poor as you should be playing for the core gameplay loop and not the unlocks. Each run also improves your skill, something that is always beneficial in every run, so it's not like running additional times is a "waste".
Pretty solid game. Doesn't overstay it's welcome.
Kill The Crows feels like someone took a western shootout, removed everything unnecessary and left only the part where your hands start sweating. You die fast. You restart fast. You tell yourself “one more run” and suddenly an hour disappears. Every run becomes this tiny duel in your head between confidence and panic. The mechanics are simple enough to understand immediately but actually being good at the game is another story. Landing clean chains and walking out untouched feels incredible. Recommended for people who enjoy getting better with each run.
This one was a nice surprise. Haven't expected much before I started playing, but the game grabbed me from the start, so addicting and it was "one more run" on repeat from there. I have to warn you from the start - if you like crows in general and would like to keep that opinion, maybe don't play this. :)) You will find the game very hard from the beginning until you get used to it a little and unlock other guns and passive abilities. One-hit-kill is the name of the game, one shot will kill you and end your run. Later you will unlock a passive that can absorb one hit and that was a lifesaver for me, it was always in my loadout. There are 6 waves where you have to kill 100 crows and boss at the end of each (3 different ones, easier and harder variant). Those are required in order to finish the game, but they continue indefinitely until you eventually meet your demise. In addition to using different guns and passives you can also change your Showdown or add Curses to spice up the run. Showdowns slow down time and can kill multiple crows in one single swoop, they mostly have 2 charges that refill by getting more kills. Curses are negative effects that make your run more difficult (although some can be viewed as a positive too). Crows will spawn at random locations, low visibility because of the fog, every crow explodes on death, etc. If the game is too hard for you (like it was for me) try experimenting with different loadouts, find what you are most comfortable with. I think it plays better with KBM, but some people had better luck with a controller. After getting 600 kills you will unlock final gun which is needed for story mode where you have to best only 3 waves this time, but with much harder crow configuration. There are 9 different types in total - regular melee and ranged one, sniper, bomber, magician that gives buffs to other ones... Variety is good and makes the game really interesting in later waves.
An amazingly addictive bite-sized experience.
Super fun game that is super easy to play. You only need to fire and dodge, everything dies in one hit. Including you. Don't expect a lot of complexity from this game, but you still have about 5h of content to discover. No real crows were harmed, maybe.
Fun little arena-shooter with loads of customization and unlockables. Shoot dodge Shoot dodge reload.. repeat all of it... that's the game. Simple, but challenging, and surprisingly addicting.
Excellent Western-themed shooter game. Super fun & addictive, combat feels snappy and responsive. There's a mechanic called "Showdown" (bullet-time) allowing you to take down multiple enemies at once, very satisfying to use. You'll unlock additional revolvers & passive items to make each run easier (double dash, survive one extra hit, faster reload, etc.) Approx. ~8-14 hours to unlock the Achievements. Here's a clip of me unlocking the "Gunslinger" Achievement (Obtain 500 kills, 600 total in the video): https://youtu.be/TTsC5VBF6_s
If it looks like a crow and it caws, shoot it.
