About
What if the tapes you found weren’t just recordings... but warnings?
Playback is a first-person psychological horror experience that blurs the line between reality and memory. Dive into a disturbing mystery as you uncover the fate of the tenants in a cursed building—all through a haunted collection of VHS tapes.
You play as an investigator drawn to a seemingly abandoned apartment complex. As you explore its decaying halls, you find tapes left behind by those who lived—and died—within its walls. Each tape plunges you into a voyeuristic nightmare, showing not just what happened, but what should never have been seen. The deeper you go, the more the footage begins to feel... personal.
From flickering lights to ghostly whispers, Playback creates a constant feeling of tension and dread. Nothing is safe. Not the tapes. Not the rooms. Not even you.

Amazing game with a thrilling story! Definitely worth the price. Also for people having issue with the lighting, there is a flashlight that you are supposed to use and light switches in the rooms. Will come back to replay for sure!
I feel like the other comments were a little harsh. The game definitely has bugs, but they are not game breaking. I feel like you should have a way to save just incase bugs crash your game. I restarted my game after the marble game caused my game to crash, so that sucked, but it took less than 5 minutes to get back to where I was. The objectives and puzzles were not that hard to figure out. And I usually struggle with puzzles lol. I liked the game. It was super spooky and had me on EDGE sometimes lol. Thanks for the fun game!
You play as a guy who decides to investigate a strange case involving several tenants who have gone missing from an apartment building. The police were unable to find any clues, but somehow you manage to get your hands on a video tape. The recording reveals that someone had been stalking the tenants before ultimately killing them. As you watch more tapes, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger behind these disappearances. In terms of gameplay, this is a straightforward first person horror game without any complicated mechanics. Your objective is to explore the available areas and complete the tasks displayed in the corner of the screen. The objectives are usually quite general, but since the entire game takes place across only a few small locations, figuring out what to do next is rarely difficult. One issue is the lack of visual indicators for important items and interaction points. Objects only reveal themselves as interactive when you get close and place the cursor directly over them, which then displays a button prompt. Sometimes the interaction zones are surprisingly small. The video recorder and television are good examples, as you have to interact with specific buttons. This means carefully positioning the cursor over tiny spots, which can be frustrating. The game world is limited to your room and hallway, the basement, and the roof. There are no loading screens when traveling between floors with the elevator, which is a nice touch, although the environments themselves are fairly basic and mostly empty. Despite that, finding certain items can still be challenging, especially since some of them can appear in random locations. One section in the basement takes place inside a small storage room patrolled by a creature. Your goal is to find a key and a marble, both of which change locations every time. Fortunately, the creature is easy to avoid if you stay behind shelves or quietly move around it. Its hearing is poor, but its eyesight is excellent whenever it has a clear line of sight. There are plenty of lockers available for hiding, but once the creature spots you and starts chasing, hiding becomes pointless because it moves too quickly. Thankfully, getting caught is only a minor inconvenience because the game creates a checkpoint right before the encounter. The bigger problem is the lack of a proper save system. If you quit to the main menu at any point, your progress is completely reset and you must start from the beginning. The game is very short, so it is not a huge time loss, but it is still a big deal because there’s no warning when you try to quit. Besides a few items, there are also several keypads and locked chests that require number combinations. Most of these puzzles are simple, but some are tied to frustrating mechanics. One puzzle requires spotting flashing numbers written on walls that are extremely difficult to see, while another hides the solution on a video tape that becomes tedious to replay. I do like the fact that puzzle codes change every time you begin a new game, as it adds some replay value, but it can also make certain puzzles more difficult than they need to be. Unfortunately, one puzzle appears to be broken. Near the end of the game, you must use numbers found on three separate video tapes. If you do not write those numbers down immediately, you can become completely stuck if you don’t collect the tape again after playing it. If you don’t, the tape will be gone. Since the numbers are randomized every playthrough, there is no way to guess the solution. If you miss them, your only option is to restart the entire game.
Great game. Really scary atmosphere.
This game is Bad, like really Bad. You play as a indian IT support Agent. Not really but it seems like it. Nothing against that culture but its distracting. There is no guidelines or clues as to where to go. this game is super broken. super broken. I didnt know what to do. I was streaming it and my viewers were about to pass out of boredom. Needs more clues as to what to do, where to find items, ITS VERY BROKEN AND NOT READY FOR RELEASE. This game has high potential but as far as right now. ITS A WASTE OF money.

Rough experience. The AI voice-over is so monotone it's distracting but that wasn't my main issue. The lighting is SO bad that within the first 2 stale areas of the game, it became pitch black and I had to hug a wall to even navigate to the next room. Atmosphere was so sterile, plot and setup were bad and that lighting was some of the worst I've seen in a minute. Definitely skip this one.
