Set in the golden age of pirates, this is your chance to become pirate king and conquer the Caribbean. Join, champion, and unite the three pirate factions: Pirates, Corsairs and Buccaneers. You must ultimately leverage this unity in all out war against the evil Pirates of Black Cove. Manage and develop parts of three strongholds and visit them to pick up faction and storyline missions. Visit the Alchemist to find out what special ingredients are needed for the wacky potions and embark on adventures to find and collect them. Unite the three Pirate factions to gain access to their hero units and ultimately take down the Pirates of Black Cove and become King of all the pirates. If you have what it takes that is.
The game is good as far as graphics, color and play experience but you get to choose from 3 characters and the story line is exactly the same for all 3. I wanted something i could play over and over again but once you beat the game with 1 character you have beat it with all. So, overall , short but not the shortest, glitchy but not the glitchiest, Funny but well, obviously not funniest. Ahoy ! you smickity smackity smeager review reader , our ship needs a captain . So, go ahead and buy the game and set your titanic into the carribeans. We can't beat those lassy evil pirates of black cove hiding in forgotten isle without you buying the game. Get ya damn game matey, ahoyohoy !
I know this game has mixed reviews and has its issues for an older game and all. But, I got quite a bit of enjoyment from it and just wanted to share that. Pick it up on sale.
If you're okay with long wait times while waiting for units and your ship to move go ahead. Dialogue was pretty entertaining but between the long wait times and cannonballs spreading randomly or going right through enemy ships without hitting them, too much trouble for too little in my opinion.
Not quite an hour in, and I can say this is fun if you're willing to blow the dust off of an older game. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons on the SNES will always be my gold standard for pirate-y gameplay, and while this lacks in depth compared to that much-older swashbuckler, it is a good bit of fun sailing around shooting ships and collecting booty. * Graphics are dated, but the game is also a decade old. * Dialogue is hammy but good pirate fun (if you've been to a renaissance festival then you might know what to expect). * Controller support is, well, just stick to the keyboard if you're trying to use a Steam Controller. Overall this is a good ol romp through some classic pirate tropes, and well worth picking up on a sale if you're looking for something in the vein of Sid Meier's Pirates!, Uncharted Waters, & Windward. It's not likely to be your obsession game, but if you want something light and easy to jump in and out of, it scratches a particular itch.
It's basically a low budget game in disguise. On first impressions the graphics looked really good, the physics of the cannons firing from the ship were excellent, and the voice-overs seem professional enough. But after a few hours of playing I realised there was no substance to the game. You just sail around, sink a few ships, take on a few missions involving land raids, then rinse and repeat. I did end up finishing the game, and I only spent some extra time playing for the achievements, but even those were a grind, and I suspect two of the achievements were bugged since I couldn't get them to pop. I'd probably recommend to anyone who likes pirate games with a simple learning curve, and only if its on special.
The gameplay loop is not very varied. Sea beatles on the one hand, land battles on the other. Sure you have to manage your land units and your ship and upgrades for it, but that's more a cheap way to trick you into more sea battles to earn money. Story is cliché on purpose but still not very enganging. I hate the fact that you can not save during the land battles. You have to be careful all the time. One mistake and you may have to restart the whole map. And a warning for all achievement hunters: at least one of the achievements is broken. The conditions for "Severed into Shreds" are pretty challenging as there is only one ship that can blow you to bits in one go, but the achievement doesn't even pop then.
Played only for a lil bit, and I dig it. Kinda like Sids pirates, which is a fav but the graphics are outdated lol If you like pirates, this is a good find. I recommend
