Pirate Pop™

A really fun bubble-popper along the lines of Buster Bros and Pang, Pirate Pop Plus offers great pick up & playability with excellent GameBoy-inspired presentation. The controls are tight, hit detection is on point, the powerups are fun to use (particularly the machine gun), and it's fun to see how long you can last against an endless onslaught of bubbles. There's only one mode of play (2 if you count Hyper mode that's twice as difficult, doubles your points, and includes more opportunities for money gain), and everything takes place on one screen. Level layout doesn't change, but bubbles continue to spawn in larger numbers and scatter into more pieces when popped as you progress through levels. The main gimmick is that gravity is regularly switched to fall in any of the four directions. Not only do you need to reorient yourself quickly, you need to be ready for bubbles coming at you at different angles and with different momentum, and you need to learn how to bounce off of bubbles while gravity is switching to keep you safer and score points. It's simple, but there is enough depth to offer continuous room for improvement. As far as I know the game has no end, but it does offer reasons to keep playing it. You acquire coins as you play which can be used to unlock a bevy of customization options. Color palettes, playable characters, music tracks, faceplates, stickers and more can be purchased, which is an appreciated feature. The music's really good, too, so it's worth switching up the tunes once in a while. I want to stress how well this game recreates the feel of playing OG GameBoy, as it really looks and sounds like it would be right at home on a tiny grey cartridge. There are some nice details like background elements scrolling and going from day to night. One detail I particularly enjoyed is that the bubbles are not just outlines but have color that changes depending on the color in the background behind them, giving them a transparent look. That's some good use of 4 colors! I tried to get all the achievements but the last one (where I have to reach level 9 in Hyper Mode) has eluded me so far. I just always get overwhelmed by bubbles before then! Still, I recommend Pirate Pop Plus to fans of simple arcade action and the original Game Boy.

I wish I could reach out to Dadako and get him to add some new elements. If Dadako added bosses or some progression this would easily be one of my favourites. AS it is I play about half an hour, uninstall and repeat 3 months later

Really reminds me of those Gameboy days....

I picked up this game on a whim to try something different from what I was playing with at the time (mainly shooters and platforms) and wanted to play something where the aim of the game was to get the highest score you can get. The graphics are pleasant to the eyes and it's got a good 8-bit soundtrack to listen while you play and the unlockables in the game can help if you want to change the colour's for the sprites from green to blue or grey for example. I do have a bit of a problem with the power up system and how it overrides the previous one you have, wish they would remove that. Recommend to those who enjoy old school games. Also a bit of warning to those who want to 100% complete it. Going for the Pirate Flag achievement can take a lot out of you as trying to meet the threshold. Trust me, too many attempts to get it

now this is a nice, sweet, tiny modern arcade game. very much enjoying it, for the following reasons: + charming pixel art. + nice music. + satisfying, straightforward gameplay. tough but easy to get into and comprehend. + lots of unlockables. definitely pick this one up if it strikes your fancy. it deserves FAR more attention.

los desarrolladores pudieron haberse ahorrado la decepcion que fueron las ventas de este juego si googleaban "pang" en twitch y se daban cuenta que an adiel e importa un puto juego de hace 7000 años

Jeu très rapide à finir (Même les succès son pas trop difficile si on joue bien) Jeu qui ressemble au jeu Pang, mais qui a quelques subtilité différentes de lui. Direction artistique digne d'un jeu Gameboy (Ce n'est pas un terme méchant, mais flatteur)

I've played this flash game before…

Super casual retro game. Nothing special going on but can't really say it's a bad game either. Mainly because the mechanics of the game are pretty well thought through. You have to be precise with your aim, there's also some magnet that turns sides so hitting those bubbles can become tricky sometimes. Other than that, there's not really much going on other than one hard mode and a shop where you can spend coins.
