It's a great game which is pretty long did every quest and task I could find in it and it took me 70 hours. Even the dragons were awesome. The story is great and the world looks very good (congrats to the art team). The companions are great and love the optional bosses and DLC. My only small gripes are the companions quests some of them end kind of scattered in the wind or have a really meh ending but I feel that they are more about the journey than the conclusion. Second gripe is that Priest is kind of mandatory in the party. Without a priest enciunters go really sideways reaaly fast. A priest can change the entire outcome of a battle with one spell. The duration of enemy debuffs it's quite long and without a priest you are fightung minus one or two for half the fight so yeah. Had a persistent bad bug with chanter but stopped using chanter companion and forgot about him after I completed his quest. Everything elae went smooth. Another small gripe is after you do the DLC content and get to the final stage of the game nothing can litereally stand in your way l, everything becomes a super eazy encounter and the final fight is just a joke compared to the DLC fights. Other than that had a great time with the game and would reccomend to try it out. There is more to it than the initial hours.
Einfach ein Klassiker, habe es auf Kickstarter gefördert. Ja, ich bin alt.
Overall - good game
A good game and a good system
Still no fix for the old resolution problem! Systems with multiple or modern monitors have too many resolutions and refresh rates to choose from in the dropdown menu. The menu then runs off-screen on the right, and you can't see or select your native resolution. I had hoped that this old problem would finally be fixed in the new beta or last patch.
An exceptionally frustrating game on several fronts. I desperately want to love this game (and in some parts I genuinely do) but there are too many things setting it back for me that make the experience immensely tiring, i.e. constant back-and-forth travel, consistent amount of save-scumming to get myself out of soft-lock combats where I should be struggling but not getting my ass handed to me consistently because the combat system isn't particularly descriptive or informative enough, immensely boring start that takes a good amount of time before it starts to get actually interesting, wildly invariable characters that range from incredibly interesting to literal fly on the wall personalities. Maybe once I get truly into the groove with this game I might actually start to really enjoy it? So far, it's not been for me, which sucks, because I really want it to be! From what I've been told POE 2 gets much, much better. Right now, it's still a recommend for me even after almost 20 hours and said groove is still nowhere to be found.
Pillars of Eternity is a fantastic old-school RPG with excellent writing, memorable characters, and a rich world to explore. While the heavy reliance on text may feel dated in 2026, especially compared to fully voiced modern RPGs, it's a rewarding experience for anyone who appreciates classic role-playing games.
I bought this game in 2016. Since then, I tried to "get into it" and finish it many times but usually stopped way before halfway to the game. I restarted the game maybe 5 times since then. Only this year, 2026, did I manage to actually get into it properly with a rogue, and it has been awesome. As someone who loved BG1, BG2, etc. back in the day, this game was like made for me, but the world of PoE was more challenging to get into than good old DnD was, lore-wise. As I'm almost at the end now, I have to say it has been an enjoyable nostalgia ride. Can't wait to try the 2nd one that has been waiting in my library for a long time as well.
