This is extremely tedious to complete even on normal difficulty. Story progression is locked behind the investigation system where the player has to uncover clues and link keywords on the conspiracy board. Clues can be obtained passively via world events or mission rewards and it takes time for your team to unlock keywords for each clue. Then you need to link the keywords on the board but you don't know how many you need. When there are multiple boards, the story board may not progress at all as you cannot control which board your team works on. Repeat this across each chapter several times. In early missions, the player don't have a lot of tools for stealth but after unlocking some, then the game gets much more easier and extremely repetitive. This is because while waiting for story progression, the player is stuck with filler missions. I have collected so many guns and kidnapped so many enemy agents, I am just messing around to fill in time. As an espionage game, obviously you get penalized for breaking stealth so most guns ended up unused. A lot of the agent stats are pointless too when the focus is just running across the familiar maps as soon as possible just to grind the story progression. Last but not least, the nail in the coffin is the bloody game hides the expanded/true story in a second playthrough. No way in hell I am spending another 40 hours just watching the in-game timer run its course, running through the same maps, using the same weapons, while waiting for story missions.
looks like an 80's xcom, isn't. Lacks any kind of wow factor. Game is tedious, mechanics are iffy - line of sight is weird. Guess that's a refund.
This is one of those games that has so many good elements, but just doesn't come together how it should. For the first many many hours, you actually can't do any stealth or strategy, because your characters do not have the slightest ability, and the actions of the enemies are random at each move. For me, it took about 30 hours of play to even get to the point where I could strategize anything, and that's mostly just saving at each move so I can retry once the enemy does some other random move. Beyond that, the in-between levels or base of operations has you constantly having to move bases and spend money long before you can earn it. That is just tiring and doesn't lend itself to the game play. There is an investigation system of detective work of cases in paper files, which is horribly tedious. You can make your agents do it after you get a few dozen hours into the game. Overall, even after 50+ hours, the balance isn't there. My main character is beefed up, but I rarely utilize them because I can use disguises on other agents that allow me to just walk around and complete some levels with minimal effort. To sum it up, there are progressions and methods I remember developing in other games that I just can't use here. It's just matter of making a move, saving, hoping the random enemy moves differently, then repeat. That being said, the levels are often beautifully designed which makes for an engaging experience, and there was a lot of good voice work to add to the characters.
Crashes on Startup on new Hardware ! Worked fine on an older PC ... Fix this !
First mission is already bs, your squad sucks , you have three agents and they can't kill a single enemy in a round, and there are ten enemies just tearing you apart. NO balance, but I guess all the edge lords love it, because after minmaxing and retrying each single round 50 times they get it done and feel compelled to tell everyone who rightfully points out the bs to "git gud" because they think repeating a bad joke for a decade makes it somehow funnier. Terrible game.
Easily the most fun i've had from a game in the last couple of years!
The idea is fantastic, a cold war spy game but suffers heavily of being poorly executed with stuff that ranges from a lack of balance favoring a "pacifist route" which while it makes sense for a spy game to don't have a heavy focus on combat is handled rather poorly, with very few ways to distract civies that while sure you can have an agent that speaks the language its a 1 turn skill that is kind of useless even in the early game nevermind in big city missions where there is A LOT of civies in one area and if you flip one alarm then it becomes a run to t he extraction point where endless waves of enemies arrive to ruin the day which takes me to another issue, even with a security team is hard bordering on impossible which pushes you into a "pacifist" route where you end asking "why do i even need a security team or agents with figthing skills" since when you get your "pacifist" team you dont really need to fight at all which makes the game rather dull, and if you played other X-Com like games this one has A LOT of waiting time that sure, other games of the genre have it this one takes it to ludicrus extend with easily 1 hr where you only stare at the screen which takes me to other bad point, the story while it could be fantastic with the setting of a cold war spy game, the game story is honestly forgettable and full of cliches and not in a good way more that the writers looked at the cliche list and decided to run with it, personally i don't mind the other faction being blocked by a new game plus but with how boring the main story is, why would you. TLDR; 4/10 boring story with unbalanced gameplay
