Paradox Vector is a kind of homage and sequel to "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft. The story is revealed slowly through various locations and interactions throughout the games many levels. The gameplay takes place in immense cyclopean structures where you must face dangers from the Ancient Ones and their Servitors, as well as navigate the structures' non-euclidean geometry.
Paradox Vector is at its core, a first person shooter. It's gameplay is directly influenced by classics like Doom, Quake and Half-Life. The vector graphics and impossible geometry of the levels offer the two main points of departure from these original masterpieces of the genre.
Paradox Vector imagines if vector graphics were still popular when the first-person shooter genre got started. In Paradox Vector you can witness a different kind of retro shooter. As Chris McMullen of Gamespew put it: “Remember the heady days of the first-person on-foot wireframe shooter? No, me neither, but it hasn’t stopped Paradox Vector from revisiting a genre that never existed.”
Inspired by arcade games from the early 1980s like Tailgunner, Battlezone, and even the original Star Wars game, Paradox Vector takes this abandoned style, and brings it up to date.
The impossible art of M.C. Escher along with the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, have had a big influence on Paradox Vector. This is not a puzzle game, but an action game set in a puzzling environment. Hallways appear to go one way but actually go another, enemies may attack from angles you might not expect, and navigating the levels may require you to think outside of the box.
Don't think it's going to be easy though! The ancient alien stronghold you are exploring is not abandoned. The Ancient Ones and their Bio-Mechanical Servitors will foil your every effort while you unearth the secrets of the mysterious, eldritch citadel!
Following in the footsteps of games like Metroid Prime, Paradox Vector does not limit players to a simple series of levels, but allows you to explore an open environment, retracing steps as needed. Some weapons and items will allow you to unlock secrets and upgrades, thus rewarding those who are curious and persistent. Don't let the minimalistic graphics fool you, there is a lot to be discovered in this puzzling and challenging adventure.
About AMD Graphics Cards:
It looks like AMD cards are not really compatible with the line draw commands used in Paradox Vector, and users may experience a very low frame rate. I am not 100% sure that AMD cards are the issue, but so far there are several reports that point to this being the most likely cause of the issue. It may be that there is a setting that could help resolve the issue, but so far nothing has improved the situation. Sorry if this has caused anyone inconvenience.
I activated the free DEMO of the game if you are unsure about whether your computer will run the game properly. I will be looking at ways in which this issue might be resolved. If you, as a player, have any thoughts or feedback, please feel free to reach out to michael@schmidtworkshops.com

This is one of the most enjoyable games I have played. It has first person shooting with puzzle solving. The vector type environments are beautifully done, game play is challenging and I can't wait to discover the next level. I like Shadow of Tomb Raider, as well, since it also incorporates shooting with puzzle solving. I would purchase any sequel right away.
I really enjoyed this game. You wake up, you get a quick text story and then you go around playing a classic FPS in a rather interesting environment. The use of spaces for weird maps and puzzle is a nice touch and combined with the droning, relaxed music and straight forward nature of the game level, which is a dungeon by dungeon key getter lay out, it's easy to relax and enjoy. I'd say this game is very casual and intends to be, but while casual is used more as a term for going easy or curating the experience to never be annoying or challenging, I use it in this sense that's its small, self contained and forgiving but still engaging for how long it lasts. You're not meant to sweat your socks off playing this and it's not throwing new or radical mechanics at you. It's pure, unashamed, casual, fps adventure game. This game is the ideal 5 buck game. It won't last long in terms of hours but there is very little rails or interruption to you playing. I enjoyed the story and the over all gameplay was good enough for the vibe I want. I miss just adventure or survival fps's within its own single player story and paradox vector was a nice fix. It also was visually and sound wise striking . The story is pleasantly unserious but lovecraftian and scifi pulpy too, even if its only in text an small as the game itself. The ending I got made me actually laugh. It was perfect. My critique of this game would be: the jumping is a bit whack. There is a delay in the jumping itself, which is fine, but the game has this auto-shunt feature where if you hit the corner of a block while in momentum ,you will end up on top of it. THis is actually ok in theory, as it makes the more annoying part of platforming in fps less intense and allows it to remain, granting some variety in the game play. But it's a bit TOO generous, as many times small jumps are made obsolete by me just running forward and evoking this feature. A small tweak of this would be a great quality of life change. The enemy are fine but I don't feel they exploit the art style nearly enough. They're pretty simplistic in many ways and there aren't many enemies in this game at all although I will admit the tentacles and atmosphere did make me get some minor startled moments as the tentacle prodded on screen. As the art style allows for mere out lines of enemies though, I think they missed the chance to get well...lovecraftian with it. Still. They function and they're not ugly. The spider mechs look cool. The weapons are straight forward. You got your machine gun, your rocket launcher, bombs and laser gun. Now. I love a good retro laser gun, so I was rather chuffed getting it. But, while I don't think that having more conventional, standard guns are a problem, some more weird ones would of fit the story and vibe a bit. If you can get this game for 5 bucks or under. Get it. The way the game uses space is actually really fun sometimes and itt's just pleasant to go through. This is a great, immersive little thing to kill a few hours with. It's a humble game. It's just trying to be fun aand have some fun moments with it style and weird hallways and teleportation hijinks, and it does that well.
A fun, short metroidvania with an interesting aesthetic. The second half of the game is definitely a bit of a step down from the first half, but it didn't ruin the experience for me. Loved the atmosphere. Room puzzles were lots of fun. Definitely pick this up if you're looking to scratch a metroid prime itch.
Challenging at times but worth giving a shot!
You basically have to collect some triangle things, unlock doors, and shoot stuff. There are a handful of different weapons and upgrades. I enjoyed it. I felt a bit disoriented at first due to the level design, but eventually I got the hang of it.
JUEGAZO 😎👍💛🌟
First off, this game is a good idea and I'd like to see more from the dev so I don't want to sound too harsh. Paradox Vector does not accurately reproduce the aesthetic of vector graphics as promised with many obvious oversights (bloom, vignetting, response time, basic color intensity and contrast, etc) even on displays that can accurately emulate vector games. The lack of text scaling makes the settings and all in-game text difficult or impossible to read on higher resolutions. I am playing this game on an LG C1, and when I emulate actual arcade vector games on MAME or FBNeo, it can reproduce vector graphics and gameplay motion with an uncanny degree of accuracy. I did not expect this game to emulate real vector games to that level, but I'm disappointed to say it does not come close on any metric. I want to see more but would currently not recommend this game unless you are approaching it as someone who has never actually played a vector game.
