Pahelika: Revelations is a step up from Secret Legends in that has better graphics and more varied puzzles (only one jigsaw this time), but it's still pretty bad. There are still several pixel hunts and puzzles with no in-game clues that force you to guess. Not helping matters is the fact that the hint button is buggy, unreliable, and has a long recharge time. Sometimes it highlighted something I had already dealt with, or even nothing at all, and still reset the timer. Pahelika may look a little more polished now, but it's still the same amateurish, nonsensical garbage.
First of all, the negative reviews for this game are ill founded. It is a huge step up from its predecessor, which I bought at two bucks and wouldn't pay more for it. The reason I am posting this review is because there are far too many negative reviews for this game on steam. Very enjoyable game, quite difficult at times. I found the hardest level to be the one with the air rune in the house. Which was like the second level, which doesn't make sense. But whatever, it was a very enjoyable game. One thing however, there is a moment in the 'Ghost Manor' level when you are asked to order pictured events in sequence as it is recorded in your journal, which was collected chronologically. However if you are playing in non-casual mode, which many people who have high self-esteems would, then you would never know that it isn't in chronological order. Call me a layman, but I don't understand how even a genius of intellect would be able to divine that they weren't in chronological order if the game has you collect it as such. Other than that ridiculously impossible task, the game is pretty solid, 7/10
Review update as of march 21st: Finally found nice and easy way to get the Jigsaw Master achievement. Before i dive into details i will need to explain that there are two types of pause in the game. One of them is an ESC pause which brings up the menu (we don't need it). The second option is to press spacebar. So in order to get the achievement you need to press spacebar and solve the jigsaw while the game is in quickpause state. You will still be able to interact with everything. Just be sure to press spacebar again before you place the final piece. Oh and i doubt this is the intended way of getting this achievement, but at least you won't have to ask uncle SAM to help you :). Good luck! Thanks to baSinga for helping me figure it out and thanks to everyone on the forums who gave their suggestions! [strike]Achievement hunters! Avoid this game! You can't 100% it because one of the achievements (Jigsaw Master) is physically impossible to get. It says that 7.6 percent of players got it and i assure you that every single one of them cheated. [/strike] The game itself is mediocre but playable, although some puzzles are counter-intuitive and are difficult to comprehend without a guide. The hint system isn't that good either. It works sometimes, but usually it points to something you already interacted with and can't do anything else (but it doesn't hint that you need to get an extra item from somewhere else), thus the hint is wasted and it's gonna take ~2 minutes or so to recharge... What was really annoying is poorly implemented clicking system. Sometimes when you click on an object, it doesn't register or does the wrong thing (for example when you need to throw a powder into the portal, instead the game teleports you as if you pressed the portal with your regular cursor (not the powder one). This is especially painful during the jigsaw minigame. [strike]You have 60 seconds and 35 puzzle pieces. Simple math hints us that you have 1.7 seconds per piece... Even if you memorize all the spots where the pieces go, it's stil impossible due to: a) you need time to rotate the pieces (which adds at least 1 second or more especially if you need to rotate it several times) b) there is only 5 pieces visible (which means you can't start with corners, unless you get lucky, because what pieces you get is randomly generated) c) the precision on the placement must be spot on. Even if you know where to place a piece, sometimes it would cancel anyway and get thrown into the box on the right, thus wasting the precious time.So it's kind of pixel hunting at this point...1.7 seconds to find the correct pixel. GOOD LUCK! As a result we get an achievement that is impossible to complete for a human being, and i highly doubt even a perfectly scripted bot would be able to (see reason c). [/strike] This negative review is staying, unless the achievement gets fixed.
Pros:
Conclusion :
love these games , i cant wait for another installment , love how they make u think outside the box , i dont care if all the achievemnts r fixed yet or not cuz i am sure u all will get around to fixing them eventually , games for me r a kind of therapy so the achievements arent a high priority on my list , they r a luxury , hope to see a few more installments of this series on the market soon
Not best HOG and not even one of good ones. Controls little buggy and have to click many times same thing before it works. Hint many times gives something you already done. Story is not good and there are many games with better graphics. Pahelika is not good HOG.
