The game is too slow and boring. You'd think adding in a bullet hell element would shake things up but it just makes it worse. The first couple of maps can be rough but as soon as you start putting points into damage the tower defense element becomes unimportant. Its also hard to tell how many enemies you have left. Where most tower defense games will have a wave counter every map has ten rounds but you don't know how many waves of enemies are in each round. So for 90% of the time you just end up camping out at the beginning of the map and just shooting monsters that show up. You end up creating an impenetrable defense by round 3 and then you just wait for the next 7 rounds to be over. You can't just idle either you have to dodge bullets, which aren't hard to dodge just more annoying. Even at the fastest speed you end up 15 minutes on a map not doing anything fun.
Otherwar, developed by Kantal Collective and published by Untold Tales and Hyperstrange, stands out as a creative fusion of tower defense and bullet hell genres, wrapped in a mythological theme that draws players into a celestial battle between forces of Heaven and Hell. The premise centers around defending the Gate of Heaven from an endless onslaught of demonic invaders, blending strategic planning with fast-paced action in a way that demands both quick reflexes and careful foresight. From the moment you start, the game challenges you to think tactically about where to place your defensive structures while also preparing you for the intense, chaotic combat that follows when you take direct control of your angelic defender in a bullet hell environment. The gameplay is split into two distinct but interconnected phases. First, players set up an array of towers and traps to slow and damage waves of enemies. Each defensive unit serves a different purpose, and deciding on their placement requires a strategic mindset, as improper setup can quickly overwhelm your defenses. Once the battle begins, you pilot an angelic avatar who must dodge a barrage of enemy projectiles while launching attacks to thin the ranks of foes. This blend of tactical tower placement and real-time, bullet-dodging combat keeps the experience fresh and engaging, as you constantly shift between big-picture management and split-second reactions. The learning curve is challenging but rewarding, offering depth for those who enjoy mastering both strategy and skill-based gameplay. Visually, Otherwar embraces a pixel art style that feels both nostalgic and vibrant. The detailed environments evoke mythological settings with a fantastical flair, and the character sprites are carefully animated to convey personality and intensity despite the retro aesthetic. The distinct designs of the celestial defenders and hellish enemies help make each confrontation feel unique, and the pixel art creates an immersive world that draws you in through its charm and attention to detail. This visual approach is complemented by a soundtrack that blends orchestral and choral elements, enhancing the epic and divine atmosphere. The sound design is sharp, with impactful effects for both player actions and enemy attacks that heighten the tension and immersion throughout each encounter. From a technical standpoint, the game performs reliably across various platforms, including handheld devices, which adds to its accessibility. The user interface is clean and user-friendly, guiding players through the mechanics without unnecessary complexity. However, a few minor bugs have been reported, including occasional issues with level transitions and progression, which can momentarily disrupt the flow but do not detract significantly from the overall experience. These issues seem fixable and have not been widespread enough to diminish the enjoyment for most players. Replayability is one of Otherwar’s strong suits, thanks to multiple difficulty levels, diverse defensive options, and upgrade paths for the angelic protagonist. This encourages experimentation with different strategies and loadouts, allowing for varied approaches to each wave of enemies and increasing the game's longevity. The developers also provide a free prologue, giving potential players a taste of the mechanics and style before fully investing, which reflects a thoughtful approach to player engagement. Overall, Otherwar offers a compelling and well-crafted experience that successfully combines tower defense’s strategic depth with the adrenaline-pumping action of bullet hell shooters. While it may not reinvent the genres it draws from, it delivers a unique and satisfying challenge wrapped in a richly crafted mythological world. For players looking for a fresh take on tactical defense games infused with action-packed combat and an atmospheric setting, Otherwar is a rewarding journey that deserves attention. Rating: 7/10
Wanted to like it, but as others noted, just very slow and unfun overall; it seems like it'd be interesting, and the art is pretty nice, but the overall actual gameplay just isn't worth the squeeze.
Otherwar is a creative and exciting indie game that perfectly blends tower defense with bullet-hell action; the pixel art visuals and dark fantasy atmosphere are stunning, making each level a visual treat. 🎯🌌 The gameplay is tactical and engaging — every decision matters, and you can’t just click your way through. 🧠 Thanks to its low system requirements, it runs smoothly even on older PCs. 💻 Overall, Otherwar is a fresh, clever, and fun experience that I highly recommend to all indie fans! 🚀
yeah not well balanced you get overwhelmed fast .Not fun. so its a no from me. Progression seems very slow.
Polecam

Simple but entertaining Tower Defense game.
