A really awesome RPG! It's not a major commitment, probably something you'll beat in maybe 6 hours or so if you take your time, but there's quality in every corner and the game in its entirety is very very fun to explore. The writing is good, the worldbuilding is great, I really like all the boss fights so far. It's just a great RPG and if you're a fan of stuff like Look Outside and Fear and Hunger I think this'll be your type of game.
So for full disclosure, I worked as a play tester for this game and contributed a few others things here and there. I've been a play tester since the original version that released in 2021 and even the game jam version that came out before it. So I do have quiet a bit of bias for this brilliant gem. However, let me say that this game is a very real labor of love that my friend Riggy made and it encompasses the love and appreciation that he has for RPG Maker and it's history. Of course the music in it is so great and atmospheric and it serves as a fantastic accompaniment to this dark RPG's narrative. The setting itself is moody and it can even get pretty intense in a few sections if you get as invested into it as I have gotten. Without going into spoilers this game's story is well paced and leaves enough room open for further exploration into further games, though it does still carry the open exploration and progression it had as well. Though, honestly compared to the 2023 version, it even has more content in it that allows for a couple of multiple playthroughs. It really has been such a delight to see how much this has grown and changed. Overall, the game itself can be completed in roughly 2-4 hours depending on how you play and if you play through it multiple times. The fights can be a bit of a puzzle here and there but they can all be challenged and beaten with perseverance, though some of them have a bigger difficulty curve than others. There is even a cheeky little secret hidden somewhere if you are a very thorough investigator. I think I've said all that I can think of to say other than I really really want a sequel or prequel now, especially now with how much more narrative and context has been added as a whole.
You crack a dudes wife and in return get your bones cracked. Or you can be nice to everyone and get your heart cracked... Well worth the price, so much love went into this and it's a perfectly crafted experience! Music is goated, art is goated, you can trip over a plant which is goated, so much attention to detail and everything feels like it was made with love! SO many cool side stories and little things to discover! You'll miss them if you don't pay attention or don't check every corner. This is a game to play when you can focus and really immerse yourself in everything. PLEASE LEAVE REVIEWS FOR THIS GAME!! IT DESERVES SO MUCH ATTENTION!
Pretty good time. I enjoyed the JRPG elements of the gameplay, as simple as they were. No major strategy, but definitely need to be aware of HP/AP at any given turn. That alone gave the game a nice flow of combat. I liked the different mysteries you could solve. I also like that there are a number of endings to get. My only major gripe with the game was that I had to look up how to solve certain puzzle toward the end of the game. Thankfully someone posted the answer in Steam Discussions, otherwise I would have been screwed. All in all a good time and worth the cost, especially with three different endings. My first playthrough was around 4 hours.
"Sleep is not an option." I held off on playing the 2003 version until this one was ready, so this is my first time experiencing DELUGE. What immediately strikes me is the sheer amount of depth put into the worldbuilding. The nonlinear nature of the narrative means the story is patched together in a way that matches how our skeletal protagonist begins to remember his own past: fragmented. Bundled with its atmospheric sound design, it makes me want to keep exploring. I'm playing it on steam deck, and just had to manually remap some of the buttons to keyboard input, but it plays fairly well. I'm excited to see where the narrative goes.
a non-linear jrpg focusing on unraveling the mysteries of your own past, as well as discovering endearing stories that make you not want to kill the villagers of Figaro (but you can, if you want). Deluge is the perfect game to pick up as a busy adult. i get to sit back to enjoy the surprisingly relaxing (yet still engaging) turn-based combat, as well as admire the amazing pixel art of Hudson and his enemies. speaking of the enemies and villagers, Riggy has made me care for what would normally be fodder enemies by giving them dialogue pre-combat and during combat, which allows Deluge's personality, mystery, and humour to really shine through nicely. i'm excited to continue playing Deluge by being a pacifist in my next playthrough as well. it's nice to be playing a classic JRPG that respects my time. i encourage everyone to experience what Riggy has delivered here and see it for yourself. you will laugh a lot, and get excited a lot as you find out that Deluge has tons of secrets waiting for you to discover
A relatively quick yet immersive game with a rich story that uncovers at just the right pace. With multiple endings I know I'll be replaying again soon. If you are a fan of classic NES RPGs you should definitely check this out.
Outstanding game, a must play for anyone looking for a twist on a sword and sorcery meets undertale Great original story that keeps you engaged from start to (near) finish I have a ways to go after a full day of playing but can’t wait to find out the ending
I had an incredible time with this one! It’s the kind of game that shines on a rainy day, spooky yet cozy, always nudging you to explore just a little further. And within that exploration, I was genuinely surprised by how much story and lore it packs in. What starts as a simple premise quickly deepens into a narrative about love, loss, and even redemption (depending on the choices you make). The gameplay is classic turn‑based RPG , built around AP and HP. It’s straightforward, easy to understand, and strategically engaging, but like many turn‑based RPGs, it mainly serves to propel the narrative forward. Deluge excels at that. Some battles double as a moral decision, and those choices ripple outward into the larger story, so be careful who you spare and who you don’t. What impressed me most is the game’s commitment to choice and consequence. There’s more depth beneath the surface than you’d expect, and it practically begs for a replay. Lastly, wanted to shout out the art which felt classic, nostalgic and cozy. Personally, I don't have a ton of nostalgia for the early JRPG era of gaming, but the art still managed to hit me there. Deluge also gives you the option to pet both a cat and a dog. Gotta get some points for that.
I'm almost at the end of my first playthrough with this atmospheric JRPG, and I've already caught myself thinking about what I'm going to do differently next time. There have been so many moments where I had to stop and actually think about my choices instead of just clicking the obvious option, and it really feels like those decisions shape where the story goes. Knowing there are multiple endings makes me want to jump right back in as soon as I finish. Deluge has been a really fun game to experience blind, and I have a feeling my second run is going to look very different from my first. It is fascinating playing through the ruin first in order to experience the redemption. Great recommendation for those who love retro-styled RPG adventures where you can complete a run in a single night.
