I feel like this piece is one of the very few that faithfully carries on the spirit of the fabled golden age of blobbers (the late '90s and early 2000s), while bringing something of its own on top of that. Many recent titles — unfortunately, I'd even say the majority of them — simply fail to present a solid foundation, or steer too far away for whatever reason, ending up convoluted or dumbed down in one or more key features. If you are like me and long for another inspired title such as Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Stone Prophet, or Grimrock, fret no longer. This is the thing. The good kind of fairy-tale atmosphere, marvelous graphics that can stand the test of time for eternity to come, tough combat (at least on Hard, that is), an option to go Ironman, riddles and secrets that are neither simple nor overdone, and last but not least: a unique setting inspired by Hungarian myths and folklore. Much appreciated. It's only too bad that Zen Studios never made a sequel or another game.
Another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ combat game when it comes to bosses. If you do not have the correct build you get wiped. So don't spend any time trying to come up with good characters YOU WILL HAVE TO RESPEC THEM CERTAIN WAYS ON BOSSES
Desde los tiempos de "Lands of lore" y "Eye of the beholder" no disfrutaba tanto de un "dungeon crawler". En mi opinión, ¡juegazo!
A magical fairytale ! Great story reminiscent of central european folk tales, well fleshed-out characters, and surprisingly deep gameplay. "Easy to learn, hard to master" comes to mind when looking at the simplistic-looking but still fairly deep character development and gameplay. In case you're wondering whether the game is hard (and some players will complain that it is), I know for a fact that it's winnable on maximum difficulty / ironman without using any firewood or consumable items. It doesn't even take a genius to do so, all you need to do is build on the existing synergies in the game that are all but spelled out in skill & item descriptions and the journal. Great ambiance, nice setting and story, lovable characters and a surprisingly deep gameplay make this a must play in my book.
This is an insanely underrated dungeon crawler, I went on a kick of dungeon crawlers and this was literally the best one I think I've played ever (outside of Might and Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven). The incentive to go back and 100% previous levels to access potential power ups is legit as a mechanic, I can't remember exactly what game it reminds me of that had really good meta progression, but it's for real. It adds a mild dash of Metroidvania spice into the mix (because you can't 100% until you get _stuff_). I have seen many franchises make dozens of games on much weaker concepts, I could see this formula going hard. This was my unexpected gem when I got into it. Give it a minute, get past the first boss or two, I think you'll see what I mean.
Fun little rpg dungeon crawler with neat mechanics and puzzles. Worth every penny if you want some old school type gaming.
I could barely play. I was expecting somethingt like Legends of Grimrock, but I don't understand the choice to allow free-camera movement if the actual movement is grid-based. The combat is a very uninspiring turn-based RPG Maker style, and the very first puzzle is already quite boring. The voice-acting itself is quite good, but voices don't match the characters. For example, a clearly old white-bearded druid has the voice of man in their 20s.
A much much much better version of might magic x !
This game is such a chore to play, not due to the gameplay. But the ungodly awful writing, how do adult humans write this without cringing. It's a drpg for christ's sake, nobody besides grown men and women are gonna play this, what is this 5 year old writing level. I've seen better writing in cartoon network. Also, whatever I played in the prologue was some insanely basic sleep inducing gameplay, barely appealing. I wish I played the demo instead of buying this.
I usually don't write reviews, but I am so frustrated with the game, that I try to get closure by rating it badly (yeah, I admit it feels like "oh he didn't make it, now he's whining in the internet how unfair everything is. It is exactly that :-D). The game is actually quite good. I like the riddles, I like the character development, battles are also okay, all of them doable- only in the last area they get a little bit unpredictable and you need some luck and you should save the game quite often. The game started to annoy me with the last riddle- the one with the elevators. In earlier stages of the game you get hints constantly without needing and asking for them. There, suddenly, "no proper hint my friend, try to figure out in a vast area how to get the power to a point I overlooked before". My bad, I should have looked more closely maybe, but there I already feared the final battle. And then it came. Even worse than what I feared. Even with all the hints from the web- where looking them up already feels like cheating- I got the final boss down from 1500 points to 1300 point in ten minutes. Then I realized that I will never make it, that I will not invest more time and thought "I have better things to do, like writing this review which helps nobody but myself ..." And now as I wrote this, I feel a lot better already- so thank you for the therapy :-D
