This game has some good roots and a ton of potential, but it just isn't there yet. Let it cook and check back in a year or so.
[PLEASE READ] Archaelund: It has some interesting lore, the gameplay is understandable and simple enough for anyone who can read and whom can pay attention to what they are doing. In it's current state it's not the AAA contender we all are normalized with via graphics and mechanics. It's still in need of some refinement as far as content and minor details in ambience and interaction as far as a Sandbox, Party Management RPG goes. I will give it a 7/10 simply for keeping games like itself going as with how many of these there are. Character Customization needs a little more TLC, the stats and class building system is simple and decent enough. MIND YOU THIS IS ALL WHILE IN: EARLY ACCESS state! Overall I like it thus far, combat is okay for turn based and it has something worth following along the development updates for. There's a genre out there for everyone, if this isn't it, don't tear it down, just move onto the next! [EDIT] Just a suggestion, when creating your party/characters, consider a decent Thief/Burglar role for starting out (It helps with looting locked chests via lockpicks) This is just a tip for newer players, doesn't mean you have to of course but it helped me and I'll pass it along. Thank you Devs of Archaelund for putting a promising title out there!
If you loved the Gold Box SSI Games then you will love Archaelund. This game is slow in the making yet bears the making of a high quality old school rpg game. As of right now at the time of writing this review there are 3 massive outdoors to explore and many dungeons and the developer claims there is about 60 hours of playtime. Well you will find yourself rolling new parties and easily surpassing 40 hours before likely getting off the first land mass with 2 more to explore. I hope the Developer of this game gets some hired help at some point to speed things along. He probably has a few handful of people assisting but could use more. Anyways if you enjoy deep party development and a bit of slow grinding for experience and watching your Rpg toons evolve like in Pools of Radiance etc you will find this game to be a treat. The graphics for this kind of game while old school are actually pretty good and the encounters can be challenging. There are lots of unique character class types to try out to see how your little band performs. Want to lead with your Burglar as a melee tank with 3 mages to assist? This could be doeable. Want to try the game out solo or with a few to yield more experience ? This could be a fun challenge. At any rate if you loved Wizardry 8,Lords of Xulima and Gold Box SSI Rpg Games you will feel right at home here so I am giving this game a big thumbs up,
Its looks good...its been in development openly for only 7 years... but no release date in sight...you can pay them money and buy 'it' but It will never release. I've only kept this game so I can write a review and warn others. I have seen this so many times the concept is appealing, a quarter gets done ish and then abondoned, updates quite regularily at first then trickle to nothing all the while stready flow of cash for no more work. Its Vaporware abondonware whatever you want to call it. Just best to avoid. Would be great if Im wrong, but last update Oct 25. AVOID!!!
I gave it 24 hours and the guy in the other review has skill issues. balancing isn't an issue if you understand builds of old. exploration is tighter, traps dont trigger "feet away" theres a lot of fixes and I feel these dope games get shrugged off cause some dude played 10 hrs with no OS exp this is an AMAZING original story with old school Might and Dungeons to crawl galore.
I absolutely love this game. I look forward to every update that gets published. It brings back so many memories of growing up with the might and magic type of adventures. I have played to the end each update and love restarting each time. So many options and so much to do. They've put in a lot of work and love into it. I highly recommend this for anyone that likes a good challenge but also some good story. This isn't a hand holding type of game. It makes you go out and search and read and listen to what's going on.
A wonderful title from a creator of Exiled Kingdoms.
Early access is pretty awesome.
Great game so far, already 'wasted' 90 hours of my life on it! Can't wait for final result.
A modern take on classics like Might and Magic
