OneShot

It's been a few years since I played this one so please forgive me if I get anything a little twisted. You may be wondering why I'm writing a review for a game I beat nearly 3 years ago by now? Passion called ig. Anywho Oneshot is a simple and short game that doesn't really ask much from the player besides their time and attention, it lays out the story for you and allows you to experience it gradually through puzzles, dialogue, and the normal rpgmaker fixings. What Oneshot does do which I think is pretty cool is it gives the player an active role in the game's story (A VERY active one.) Which is a nice refresher from a narrative standpoint, the interactions between you and Niko are plentiful and almost all of them ended up getting a smile from me. Speaking of Niko, he's an adorable main character, not much needs to be said in this regard besides the fact that he won me over very very quickly, the way he interacts with the world around him does a VERY good job of getting you immersed in the environments Oneshot has you in and out of. Anyways I'd put more down but it's a like 10 hour game at most, if you're looking at the reviews there's like a 70% chance you're just nosey and already played the game, in that case hi. For the 30%, if you enjoy puzzles and want a relaxed experience that'll slightly tug at the heartstrings sometimes, try Oneshot I suppose. Oh also file explorer spleunking is fun, it does a little more than that but it's always sweet to see the fourth wall get trashed.

OneShot is an absolute gem of an indie adventure that feels refreshingly unique and endlessly engaging from start to finish. The gameplay is pure fun, blending light exploration with clever, satisfying puzzles that never feel frustrating—each one cleverly ties into the world and encourages creative thinking without relying on trial-and-error. What elevates it further is the deeply interesting lore: a haunting, bittersweet tale of a dying world, a solitary messiah figure, and the quiet weight of responsibility, all delivered through beautiful pixel art, memorable characters, and subtle meta elements that make the story feel personal and profound. It’s the kind of game that sticks with you long after the credits, rewarding both puzzle-solvers and story lovers with heartfelt moments and genuine emotional payoff.
