Old Man's Journey

An old man receives a letter, and upon reading it, he decides to head out, packing his belongings, and so it starts. This game leads the old man and us through his treasured memories, all in hopes of reaching his destination. We get to see his life in short images from his memory while he wanders across the land. The whole art of the game has something bittersweet that captures the feeling very well. I mean, I am nowhere near this age, but I wonder if this is what it feels like when looking back at a long(hopefully) happy life. It already sometimes feels this way when looking back at childhood. Somewhere far away but close at the same time. Well, before I get too sad about it, I'd better finish this review. As we lead him closer towards his goal, we have to shape the land to give him access to terrain he wouldn't be able to go to. Sometimes it's straightforward, but other times you have to think a bit to plan the next steps. Sheep might even dare to block your way! A fun train ride was also in the mix. It isn't a very long game, but the time you use to complete it couldn't have been better spent anywhere.

Old Man’s Journey — очень короткая, но запоминающаяся игра. Здесь нет сложного сюжета, большого количества диалогов или привычного экшена. Это скорее небольшая грустная история, которую рассказывают почти без слов — через путешествие, воспоминания, музыку и окружающий мир. Главный герой — пожилой мужчина, который получает письмо и отправляется в дорогу. Почему он решает уйти, куда направляется и что именно произошло в его жизни, игра раскрывает постепенно. Причём делает это очень аккуратно. Никто не объясняет происходящее длинными текстами или кат-сценами — большую часть истории приходится понимать по небольшим эпизодам из прошлого. И в этом, наверное, главное достоинство игры. Сюжет здесь очень простой и человеческий. Про семью, решения, сожаления, время и вещи, которые иногда начинаешь ценить слишком поздно. История не пытается специально давить на эмоции, но ближе к финалу всё равно становится немного грустно. Отдельно понравилась необычная игровая механика. Мы практически не управляем самим героем напрямую. Вместо этого нужно менять окружающий ландшафт: поднимать и опускать холмы, соединять участки дороги и таким образом прокладывать старику путь дальше. Сначала это выглядит просто как интересная визуальная идея, но постепенно появляются небольшие головоломки. Нужно понять, как расположить холмы, где провести дорогу, как обойти препятствие или помочь герою добраться до следующей точки. Механика довольно необычная и хорошо подходит именно такой игре. Здесь не хочется сложных загадок или десятков предметов в инвентаре. Всё происходит медленно и спокойно, практически в темпе самого путешествия. Очень понравилось визуальное оформление. Old Man’s Journey выглядит как ожившая иллюстрированная книга. Яркие холмы, маленькие домики, море, поля, деревни, поезда — практически каждый экран можно отдельно рассматривать как картинку. При этом за красивой и довольно тёплой графикой скрывается достаточно грустная история. Получается интересный контраст: вокруг солнечный и красочный мир, а герой вспоминает далеко не самые радостные моменты своей жизни. Музыка тоже отлично дополняет происходящее. Она ненавязчивая, спокойная и помогает создать нужное настроение. В эту игру вообще лучше играть не спеша, желательно за один-два вечера, не отвлекаясь постоянно на что-то ещё. Главный недостаток одновременно является и её особенностью — Old Man’s Journey очень короткая. Пройти её можно буквально за несколько часов. Кто-то может решить, что этого недостаточно, особенно если ждать полноценной большой приключенческой игры. Но мне кажется, что делать её длиннее и не нужно. История рассказывает ровно столько, сколько необходимо. Если растянуть путешествие ещё на несколько часов, оно вполне могло бы потерять своё настроение. Головоломки тоже нельзя назвать сложными. Обычно достаточно немного посмотреть на экран и понять, как соединить нужные участки ландшафта. Поэтому рассматривать Old Man’s Journey именно как головоломку я бы не стал. Это в первую очередь небольшая интерактивная история. И мне она понравилась именно такой. Короткое путешествие пожилого человека, несколько красивых воспоминаний, интересная механика изменения мира и немного грустный финал. Никакой спешки, никаких сложных правил и практически никаких слов. Всего несколько часов, но после прохождения ещё какое-то время думаешь о том, что увидел. Хорошая маленькая игра на один вечер. Особенно если хочется чего-то спокойного, красивого и немного грустного.

高情商:关于自我反省，人生，失败和希望的故事。低情商:老头年轻时候抛妻弃子出去浪迹天涯，等老了才想起来要回家找人养老，女儿居然还原谅他了？搞不懂那些说这游戏感人的，到底感动在哪里了，这剧情简直稀烂啊。 除了剧情之外的地方都能算得上优秀，画面精致细腻，音乐舒缓优美。尤其是游戏的玩法，通过拖动改变地形，制造山峦起伏来为老头铺路，这个与纪念碑谷颇有共通之处的想法让我眼前一亮。玩过许多解密游戏的我也是第一次看到这种设计，利用高低差让木桶撞破墙壁，利用水流达成跨越层级的移动，利用地形交错驱赶拦路的羊群，虽然解密的难度较低，但我看到了创意的火花，如果仔细深挖的话这种解密方式一定大有可为。 全流程一小时左右的小甜品，推荐对这个玩法感兴趣的玩家尝试。

Esse jogo não tenta definir isso, mas te faz refletir sobre as perdas e os ganhos de uma vida de escolhas, por meio da perspectiva de um velho marinheiro, vamos acompanhar uma vida de altos e baixos. Um jogo muito simples, mas com uma mensagem profunda, não foi preciso nenhum diálogo pra compreender, com visuais lindos e com uma trilha sonora calmante e puzzles bem simples, porém gostosos, vamos aproveitar essa linda história em forma de jogo. Pelo tempo de jogo, só recomendaria esperar uma promoção, mas de resto, recomendo demais jogar.

Beautiful heartwarming story about an old man that goes on a hike. Played it through when it was just new and loved it. Achievements were added and I played through again being reminede how much I liked it and remembered to leave behind a comment this time around. Innovative mechanics that I havent seen anywhere else around, and a genereally touching and enjoyable game - thanks.
