I've been waiting for this game for longer than I can remember. I know this is an early access title... but I cannot recommend it in its current state. Good: Concept is fun (who the heck would say no to a flying ship?) Nice art style Looks like there will be a ton of creative options for building pieces Bad: SO BUGGY Enemy AI is very weak/basic Melee combat is about as dry as it can possibly be (missing animations, sounds and flow) Ship combat is strange, the enemies hit and run. I tried emptying all my saved up ammo into this scout ship (That did very little. I jumped on as a person and went around wrecking the place, but the guns kept respawning. Nothing would bring this thing down. When I fell off and died the game locked up when I respawned at my ship) The character feels robotic and sluggish, and I'm sorry but I severely dislike everything about the jumping mechanics. The progression doesn't make much sense to me, and I seem to hit a wall where I cannot progress any further. There needs to ba a lot more instruction on how to use or power all of the numerous workstations in this game... and boy there are a lot of them. This is likely something that will change, but the world feels very lackluster. The islands generally look very samey even the first 3 biomes, I didn't even notice I'd visited 3 until I looked in the guidebook. There's just so little to look at, same few resources, almost no decor, and uninspired blobby landmasses. The resource nodes look very unnatural, especially the singular model for the scrap metal. Seriously, did someone come and sweep a bunch of metal up into neat little piles? My suggestion is you need 3-5 very loosly scattered chunks of metal. No piles just a singular medium to large chunk of half burried metal give it 3 axies of random rotation so it is rarely seen from the same angle. I am not going to refund this game, because I hope it can be better than "Aloft" I was close to refunding it, and I understand why others have. But we'll see where it goes. If things improve I will change my recommendation.
Okay there are some big issues first. I died in mid Glider and my loot bag did not spawn. It has the Icon for the bag but not where I died at. Noticed I was over a island and got some hope. Ah must be down there. So I thought. but still no bag... v.v But it is early access so things like this are expected to show it's head. Other bad issue... why is it I have to connect to a server for single player? I have lagged off of my Cannon back to my Helm while in a fight. I had it aimed and charged and then Poof back at the Helm... >.< Now for the good. The movement of your ship is good, Fluid, and no real issue. Resources feel a lil lacking in how much you get at first. but thats cause of the size of the island you start on. Once you get to a bigger one it don't feel as taxing. Till you go for high tier ship XD Progression Feels solid. Small thing. The Combat is a Little Taxing for Solo Play. (Ship battles) (and the OMG things) OOOO MY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GOD BRO THESE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CLOUDS ANOTHER IS ROLLING OVER ME AS I COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM CAN WE FOR ♥♥♥♥ SAKES MAKE THEM EITHER A SMALLER OR BE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FEWER!!!! game has potential, sadly i wont play till controller support is added as i do not enjoy leaning over my desk like a trogledite lol 3 stars till controller update
Lots of potential here. But this is the most disappointing early access game I've ever tried. It would be more accurate at this point to call this a demo. This is going into suspended animation for quite some time. Perhaps I will revisit it again in a year or so.
Fun premise but not quite there yet. Going to wait a few months and give it another shot. Hopefully this will be a fun one to play with the family.
Echoes of Elysium represents a highly promising contribution to the open-world survival RPG genre, taking the traditional survival elements off the ground and launching them into the skies. I really enjoy that the game bets heavily on building your own flying fortresses and intensely exploring a procedurally generated open world filled with floating debris and islands. The feeling of piloting massive airships, combined with the necessity of mining resources and facing mechanical threats, created a captivating atmosphere of a celestial paradise within the very first few hours. In many ways, it reminded me of the style and gameplay freedom found in the older title Worlds Adrift. From a gameplay perspective, I have to praise the excellent vessel editor, which gives you absolute freedom to build anything from a nimble scout ship to a massive battleship, where the physics and weight of each part realistically affect the flight characteristics. I mostly enjoy the straightforward ship combat, the vertical exploration of floating islands, and great mechanics like the grappling hook for collecting debris mid-flight or the functional jetpack. The building and maneuvering of a massive aerial base work as a great sandbox with immense potential, even when playing completely solo. Furthermore, the technical state is solid for an Early Access title, and the game does not suffer from brutal framerate drops. However, the game struggles with elements that drastically and artificially stretch the playtime, which you feel especially as a lone wolf. What annoys me the most is the implemented time-gating and the necessity of constantly repairing your ship. Weapons and gear have terrible durability, and enemies attacking from weird angles force me to constantly babysit the vessel, otherwise I return from exploration to a battered wreck. Smelting basic resources in furnaces takes unnecessarily long, which kills the game's pacing, and progression is tied to pure luck with RNG. You have to mindlessly destroy dozens of ships just for one single component to even move forward in the technology tree. On top of that, the user interface occasionally glitches—crafting stations sometimes stop registering materials in chests properly or the crafting process itself gets stuck, forcing a game restart. ✅ Excellent, detailed, and highly creative building of your own airships from scratch. ✅ Smooth gameplay, solid optimization, and fantastic vertical exploration with a jetpack. ✅ Great feeling of steering massive ships and a stylish design for the mechanical monsters. ❌ Frustrating time-gating, where smelting resources and crafting components takes unnecessarily long. ❌ Aggressive RNG progression system and the need to constantly repair your fragile ship. ❌ Occasional UI bugs that freeze crafting or the loading of storage boxes. Echoes of Elysium is a craft-wise very promising project that absolutely excels at creative ship building. However, all the mentioned shortcomings and annoying grind need to be taken with a grain of salt, as the title is at the very beginning of its Early Access journey. Fortunately, the developers at Loric Games are releasing continuous updates, quickly responding to community feedback, and have already started tweaking crafting speeds and UI behavior in the first patches. If the developers maintain this pace and properly balance the game based on user feedback, the title is well on its way to becoming an absolute genre hit in the future. It is definitely worth trying out right now.
I used to enjoy this game but with the new onboarding when you start a new game it leaves me zero desire to play . starting with no glider and having it gated behind research that requires a hinge but until then you have a jump and that's it completely ruins any desire to play. I am not sure why you would want to start new players with an experience of jump and hop[e you can grab the floating material . it is a shame .
Lots of potential here, but unsure if they'll move past potential. I played solo, and this is clearly not intended to play solo. At the same time, I don't see the gameplay loop as one to keep a group entertained, as 90% of the game is resource gathering. Ship Combat - Ship combat in solo mode is neigh impossible. You have to have your ship near the enemy ship to bring back floating resources as they will generally not be in the 'loot balloon,' however, you have no way to connect the ships. Mounted guns do nothing, and the only real way to capture a ship is to board it and keep gliding back - Seriously, the 'recommended' way for ship combat now is to park your ship where it won't get blown up, beat it up, and wait for it to patrol back to your ship to take back 1 round of loot (you'll need 5-6 rounds per Corvette) - Multiplayer - I haven't tried it, but the sailing is slow, and there's not going to be much for other players to do besides light crafting and watching the pilot fly from island to island Melee combat - Clunky and uninspired. You still take damage while dodging, but all attacks are telegraphed, so all combat strats involve just slowly strafing around the enemies - Near instant respawns...you'll see 2-3 mobs guarding a resource hub (that will contain a few mine nodes and 2-3 chests), and will fight 15-20 before you gather the loot - Your sword will break a LOT and it takes fuel and a timer to repair each time Farming - There's lots of rare materials that take forever to gather with little info, and the rare stuff can only be carried 1 at a time, and instant drop if you exhaust your stamina - Only way find them easy is the radar, which exhausts fuel crazy fast - Prepare for a lot of island hopping for very low yield Ship building - Building and sailing is fun, but you'll need spreadsheets to calculate the raw materials and components for a full ship build. Think early WoW engineering, but without an economy to help you along Overall, the concept is good, but feels ill thought out. As if the devs thought of a really cool concept, then asked an offshore studio to just make it happen. I really hope they improve this heavily before 1.0.
A fun Survival game that dosent overly hold your hand. if you are patiant and enjoy figuring things out for yourself this is the game for you
When i played it i thought that it was only run on server instances, people and the developer did hilight that it has a single player options for local which i may not have been in or able to find as it seems unclear. is you do run in server side instances it leads to long loading time just to play whenever you play and also inermitant desync issues. Not sure why this game need to run this way and why it needs to be run through a server instance. Due to lack of discloser and the loading issue i have requested a refund.... im a dad of small kids. i only get 20 mins or so at a time to play and half of that is lost to load.... and my machine is decent. ****I have edited this review and changed it from negitive because the developers responded to it. when i played i looked everywhere for the sign player local machine option. if this was easier to find it would be great.if someone can point out how to do this i would actually pay to play this game again as i did like the idea.
