A minefield you can traverse by running round the back of it, an on-rails boat ride and a train station with two rooms. Push some pillars around, run to a generator and it's goodnight, god bless. Granted, I didn't explore every inch of the map but then I'm guessing the developer didn't either because I fell through it twice. Save yourself a playthrough and watch mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt6qTki4dLs
This ultra low budget horror adventure game starts out with you having crashed your truck in the forest, upon where you immediately find a note (personally addressed to you!) from some dark forest lord named The Keeper, telling you to leave or else. However, he's kind enough to let you know in precise detail that the generator beyond the river is where he harnesses his power, but you'll never stop him anyway because you don't have the gas can, key and cable to get the generator running. No kidding, that's what he says in his note. I spent about 30 minutes ambling around a hideously ugly forest that mostly consists of dirt and a sparse few PS1-era trees, picking up giant battery packages to keep my flashlight running and avoiding land mines seemingly drawn in MS Paint before I decided I had enough of this game. If you tried Nyctophobia for free you'd probably be angry at the time wasted in downloading and playing it, never mind spending a fiver for this dubious privilege. It should also be noted that this evil spirit of the forest and darkness wrote his sinister warning message on spiral bound notebook paper. Perhaps "The Keeper" is short for "The Trapper Keeper." 2/10

Nyctophobia is a really bad horror game, I would dare to call it one of the worst one on steam. In Nyctophobia we play as a man who crashes his truck in the middle of nowhere, we find a note that there's a man calling himself The Keeper who will kill you if you don't leave his land and so now you have to find a way out before The Keeper kills you. You do this by looking for items around the map and picking up batteries for your flashlight. I imagine if you run of batteries you die, but gladly I haven't run out of batteries since there's a lot across the entire map. Graphically the game looks like slapped up assets from the unity asset store. It's all really ugly and the entire map is really bizarre with a military base, train station, and a massive lake located very close to each other. Sounds are also very likely came out of a free sounds website as all of is very generic. The game is also really buggy, you can clip and get stuck in most items and places around the map and getting out of them is the pain. The game is also not scary what so ever. At first I was spooked by the atmosphere and the spooky sounds, but I quickly remembered that I heard the same sound effects in other horror games and my fears faded away fast. Also The Keeper is laughable at best and not even remotely scary. The game took me 30 minutes to finish, after you complete it you have a mini game which I have not tried because I was sick of the game after I finished it. I got this game for free, but I still think it was a waste of time. I really suggest saving your money and getting something else since there's a bunch of better horror games on steam that are just as cheap and also not to mention you can go look for a game on Gamejolt which has tons of great horror games that are also free. Final Rating: 1/10 Pros: N/A Cons: - Horrible Graphics - Horrible Sound Effects - Not even remotely scary - Short ( but this might be a good thing cause this nightmare of a game is over quickly)
I recommend you to avoid this game, the graphics, sound, and gameplay are horrendous. The game itself feels extremely outdated and poorly optimized. It took me quite a bit to get familiar with the map due to the poor map system. It's a pretty bad attempt at a survival horror game. 3/10
Great Game xD
This game is quite the tragedy. Apparently you die if your flashlight dies. And apparently your flashlight can drain newly packaged pack of duracell batteries in like 30 seconds. Then apparently you're in a forest that happens to have newly packaged 4packs of AA batteries. Does this flashlight even use AA? Collision on the game was quite bad, kept running into trees being wider than they are. Then the last zone of the game isn't even part of the map. Maybe my map needs lighting.
+: Easy to 100% -: Graphics on the screenshots is not great, but in-game it's somehow much worse. Glitches, fall through map couple of times. Luckily there is no fall damage. Generic horror on Unity. Technicaly it's actualy better than some others but yet not good enough.
a boring game made by a dev that has no idea how long flashlight batteries actually last in real life. yes I get it's a game but the main mechanic revolves around feeding your flash light like pack man eats dots. it's borin and not a fun mechanic.
“One night, as you are driving alone along a dirt road in your pick-up truck, you make a wrong turn down the dark depths of the mysterious Lakeview Woods. Your darkest fears come alive…” Nyctophobia is a Horror adventure game, where the player’s objective is to escape the said location. The plot is bland for a ‘Lost in the Woods’ story, and a lot of the threats and pop-ups are either old-schooled or … questionable. Finding a skeleton hanging on a noose over a river doesn’t make any sense, unless the game has given some explanation behind the player’s finding. As a horror game, I didn’t find anything intimidating apart from the tense music that would trigger at some points of the game. But even then, they were played at the wrong times, where no pop-ups or caution are present. In fact, the main figure that we need to avoid for the most part is the ‘Keeper’, who is nothing more than a mere silhouette. Honestly, I do not find a 2D cut-out exactly scary: especially at the last sequence, when I was being chased by it and had to reach reach the generator. The overall design is pretty ick, and dispositioned to the point where I had to frown at certain physics and logic in the game. You’ll find the objects in game as unorthodox as a floating pack of Duracell batteries – Yes, this is exactly how you see the batteries, instead of them lying around like normal items. There isn’t many items or places that you can interact with either. When done, the effects, as the result of an action, are minimal and poor. For instance, when I used an axe to break down a wooden door, one would expect that it would have splintered and/or the door would fall in pieces. But nope – instead, the door fell flat like a domino, even glitching a bit before it fully collapsed. The game simply did not fulfill it's part well as a Horror game. I wouldn't be motiavted to play thoroughly to the end, if it weren’t for the achievements. I would not recommend this game.
